Alright, well here is the thing. I was wondering if someone can explain this whole "Emo" thing to me. I mean I'm 23 and I've realized that I'm a old un-hip b*****d.

(Ok, so I've always been this way.)
Anyway I'm just wondering what it's about I mean does "emo" actually stand for emotional anymore?

If it does then why don't you see extremely perky emo kids sporting rainbow's, and spreading love?
Maybe I'm just missing something. Maybe there are a full range of "emo kids" Not just cry babies whiners.

I mean I remember when "Emo" was for Emo-rock, or Emo-Punk Rock ect.
Now it seems to be just a fashion trend, like mutation of gothic, industrial, alternative, and punk clothing. Do these people even listen to emo music anymore?

Someone please explain this madness to me.

I mean It's almost impossible for people to not fit in some kind of category, hell without even trying, but what confuses me is that it Emo seemed to sprout out of nowhere...I really must be getting old.

Ok, emo was a punk genre. I like to call it Punk's mid-life crisis. It used to be a label for bands who sang about something other then politics and the world. Usually about life.

Now, it's a bunch of cry-babies singing about how their girlfriend dumped them. They are so desperate to fit into any gruop that they suffocate what little personality they had in the first place.

And they completely ruined striaght hair.

That's pretty much how I saw it. I've never really followed what was going on that closely I guess, It still feels like it was very abrupt. I mean even on Gaia "emo glasses." Common' I like those type of glasses. I hate feeling bad like I'm being trendy when I was just wearing my glasses so I could see well! (Thin framed glasses look terrible on me).

Straight hair, Glasses they are trying to take it all. Laughs*

It's a stupid label for stupid people. Seriosly, why not be different for a change. *sigh* I guess we'll never know.

Dare to be different, fight conformity. All those who are driven by fads, and popularity beware.

Well my memory is getting bad in my own old age (I am also nearing the ripe old age of 23) and one of my favorite musical artists is quoted in saying.."Years ago, a persons lifestyle influenced their music. Today, a persons music influences their lifestyle." - Johnny Cash.

*walks up to the podium and sets down some papers. Adjusts his glasses and looks over those that have gathered in the audience before him.*

Emo is a subgenre of hardcore punk music. Since its inception, emo has come to describe several independent variations, linked loosely but with common ancestry. As such, use of the term has been the subject of much debate.

In its original incarnation, the term emo was used to describe the music of the mid-1980s Washington, DC scene and its associated bands. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the DC scene and some of the regional scenes that spawned from it. The term emo was derived from the fact that, on occasion, members of a band would become spontaneously and strongly emotional during performances. The most recognizable names of the period included Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and, slightly later, Moss Icon. The first wave of emo began to fade after the breakups of most of the involved bands in the early 1990s.

And thus...Emo was born..

Now, I would normally patter on about the second and thrid waves of Emos career in the music genre world, but frankly Scarlet, I don't give a damn.

I got a kick out of this video:

If you don't have a sense of humor, I wouldn't watch it.

I don't know what anybodys talking about at all!!!!

I'm so stupid!!!! *dances around with the stupid fairy*

I'm ugly too! *falls off the ugly tree and hits every branch on the way down*

No seriously I'm just completely confused when someone mentions emo here, I've never had anyone refer to it in my every day life.

I feel so sheltered.

*is isolated on the Isle de Morte and sadly never dies but remains clueless not wiser in anyway*

I do not know you see for I have been on Mars, for the last decade, with my eyes shut and my fingers in my ears.

LOL Awesome and well put everyone! Yeah, emo. rolleyes I kinda dated a guy a while ago that was trying to be emo/depressed. I got mad at him for it, since I had gone through depression myself and he didn't know of what he was asking for. Oh, well.
