Just to get this out of the way...

Talk about anything related to the ever populer Drow Ranger here
PostPosted: Tue Nov 28, 2006 3:15 pm

one question
just why is he so popualer?
Salvatore claimed that he wasn't even saposed to be the main charicter at first but ended up so after the fan responce of the first trilogy...

to me he's a really great charicter, but isn't that much better then the other main charicters, if not just uniqure
is it posably due to the novalty of being a good Drow? if he were human or even just a normal elf, would he be difrent? (the persacution he faced aside for a moment, though I admit that that had a major impact in forming him)

My guess is that people love Drizzt, because he ALWAYS comes through in his problems, be it to racism or in a fight. After all, he is a kickass fighter, and quite a cunning one. The only one I know is better, would be Zaknafein. BUT, myself, I don't like him, seeing how goodie-goodie he is. Which is why I prefer the loveable Arty. x3

But yea. That's my theory. People like goodie goodies that prevail in the end.

Well he did go a bit nuts when he spent those 10 years alone out in the wild and almost became an animal. At that point he would just kill for the hell of it.

Drizzt sort of comes off as a needlessly spiteful teenager who hates his father
"I had such a horrable father that I'm going to try to live my life the complete opposate as him..."

Drizzt actually looked up to his father it is just his race that he doesn't care for. He is rather mopey about it though.

Accully, now that I think of it, I've surprized that Drizzt isn't overly sexist, concitering that before he came above ground every female he's ever know treated him like he was dirt <.<
then agein, he was also taught to respect females above all others (exept mabie spiders lol )
but then agein, wasn't he turning agece just about everything he knew? Under what sort of pricables was he holding to as to what he would still fallow and what not?

well some people change their values and he does kind of kiss Cattie Brie in the Icewind Dale trilogy. Maybe he likes females? who knows.

granted, but 40 years of verbal and psychological abuse? I would think that would be dificult to just 'shrug off'...
though that is probually the biggest reason he likes Cattie Brie, she was litrally the first girl that was ever nice to him (sence he never acually met Dove) unless there were other girls that the books don't mention lol

nope maybe all that mistreating made him appreciate them more and when nice ones come along well who knows. He does have a facination with surface elves though and he may admire their relationships and envy them. Got to go but I will be back later don't know when but later.

ah, another thing
Drizzt seems to think of himself that he's almost litrally the only Drow living on the serface with good intentions. Correct me if I'm wrong, but has he ever (in his jurnal entries or anything) ever wondered about the posablility of other good Drow?
What of the worshipers of Eilistraee? He should get in touch with them, I'm sure they have alot in common...
