Let's look at the dragonlance world at this point; Palin is already an old man, even though he was supposed to be the second generation. Everyone else is dead, except Dalamar and Jenna, who aren't getting too involved with stuff themselves, doesn't it seem we should have had at least one trilogy without wiping out the second generation as well? The dark disciple is okay, but I expect them to forget all about these new characters as well, a Majere monk, a kender, Gerard...

I completely agree with this.
I felt that the Dawn of Souls did have a great story line and everytyhing. BUt I wish they would've had...I dont know. More of the Second Generation Characters.
You can read the Bridge of Time Series to read the stories of Dezra Majere, (Caramon yonugest, bratty daughter) Sara Dunstan, (the lady who raised Steel for Kitiara.) Riverwind. (He went to Kendermore to figth for the kenders) and I forgot the others.
Each of these is a diferrent book.

Personally I prefer when they use newer characters.
Krynn is a planet. There are probably millions of people living there at any one time. Why would every important event to happen on a world that big containing so many people always be centered around the same hand-full of people? Why must there be a Majere in every story? Why is it that only the children of previous characters get all the action? Why must there be a kender in every story?
In our world and in every fictional world there are many, many people who affect history and the world they live in. It's nice to see that writers can show an accurate portrayal of this in their stories.
Let old characters die and introduce more, new ideas.

I agree, and there are plenty of new characters in countless spin-offs and whatnot...But I really liked Palin and Steel... they should have had a trilogy together. What I don't like is how they just skipped over thirty years, it was a little sudden, you know? I think DL lost a lot of steam after that.

I hate it when they kill off characters. But looking at it from a purely Franchise stand point they didn't give enough book time to any of the second generation characters, to promote much of a emotional attachment, so it was less sad when they died as apposed to when they killed off Flint in the original trilogy. But still I liked Steel and thought his character had alot of potential

Sadly, DragonLance has been going down hill ever since Dragons of Summer Flame (which I wasn't impressed with). The popularity of the series continues to decline.
It's almost like they feel they have to "mess up" the whole world every 20-30 years in order for it to be interesting.
I've been reading DragonLance since 1988. The world and books were the best in the beginning. Back then they focused on the history and make-up of Krynn. They're main goal was to describe and give personality to the world and its peoples.
I miss those days. The 5th Age was horrible and the War of Souls is starting off even worse. While I'm close to owning every novel released, I find that I am no longer excited by the release of new books or story lines. There are probably 10-15 books I've owned for a year and yet have never read. The desire is gone.
I can only hope that the release of the movie later this year will inspire more books based on Krynn when it was a new and exciting world to be a part of, and not this fuddled, half-world it has become.

Yeah...I was really dissapointed that Dragons of Summer Flame was one book when it was intended to be a trilogy. I will never forgive the publishers for that.
