Ichigo Kurosaki is a rough-and-tumble teenager who has always had the special ability to see ghosts. The story begins with the sudden appearance of an oddly-dressed stranger in Ichigo's bedroom. This stranger is the shinigami Rukia Kuchiki, who is surprised at his ability to see her. Their resulting conversation is interrupted by the appearance of a hollow, an evil spirit. After Rukia is severely wounded during battle trying to protect Ichigo, she decides to transfer half of her powers to Ichigo, hoping to give him the opportunity to face the hollow on an equal footing. Ichigo absorbs all of Rukia's powers during the attempt instead, allowing him to defeat the hollow with much ease.
The next day, Rukia turns up in Ichigo's classroom as a transfer student. Much to his surprise, she now appears to be a normal human. She theorizes that it was the unusual strength of Ichigo's spirit that caused him to fully absorb her powers, thus leaving her stranded in the human world. Rukia has transferred herself into a gigai — an artificial human body — while waiting to recover her abilities. In the meantime, Ichigo must take over her job as a shinigami, battling hollows and guiding lost souls to the afterlife.

Twelve years before the events at the focus of the series, the nine-tailed demon fox attacked Konohagakure. It was a powerful demon indeed; a single swing of one of its nine tails would raise tsunamis and flatten mountains. It raised chaos and slaughtered many people, until the leader of the Leaf Village – the Fourth Hokage – defeated it by sacrificing his own life to seal the demon inside a newly-born child, whose origins are as yet unknown. That child's name was Naruto Uzumaki.
The Fourth Hokage was celebrated as a hero for sealing the demon fox away. He wanted Naruto to be respected in a similar light by being the containment vessel for the demon fox. The village he grew up in, however, mostly shunned Naruto; they regarded him as if he were the demon fox itself and mistreated him throughout most of his childhood.
A decree made by the Third Hokage made it so that the other villagers were forbidden to mention the event to anyone, even to their own children. However, this did not stop them from treating Naruto like an outcast. Although their children did not specifically know why their parents treated Naruto the way they did, they learned through example to despise the boy. As a result, Naruto grew up as an orphan in a lonesome atmosphere without friends, family, or acknowledgment. He could not force people to befriend him, so he sought acknowledgment and attention the only way he knew – through pranks and mischief. However, that soon changed after Naruto graduated from the Ninja Academy by using his Multiple Shadow Clone Technique to save his teacher, Iruka Umino, from the renegade ninja Mizuki. That encounter gave Naruto two insights: that he was the container of the demon fox, and that there was someone besides the Third Hokage who actually cared about him. His graduation from the academy opened a gateway to the events and people that would change and define his world, including his way of the ninja for the rest of his life.

The story centers on the life of Hideki Motosuwa, 18, a repeat student attempting to get into university by studying at the Seki cram school in Tokyo. An honest and unassuming teenager raised on a farm, he has little experience with women, though his imagination and libido are both quite active. Besides a girlfriend, the other thing he dreams of having is a persocom. A Persocom is an android used as a personal computer. Hideki discovers that persocoms are commonplace in the city. They are programmed with fairly subdued personalities; they assist their owners with chores (such as shopping, dictation, email, and accounting), are easily identifiable by the large data ports on the sides of their heads that look like ears, and surf on the internet. But persocoms are expensive and Hideki has no money, so he figures the only way he'll ever have one is if he were to find one lying on the curb.

According to him, "nothing ever really happens here". Until one day, a girl with pink hair and a Vespa comes out of nowhere and hits him with a bass guitar. And that's only the beginning. Apparently she's an alien named Haruko Haruhara and she's searching for something that involves Medical Mechanica - a giant factory in the town.

Jun Sakurada is a Junior High School student who refuses to go to school due to mental issues resulting from traumatic experiences there (see Hikikomori). He normally locks himself in his room and has a hobby of ordering supernatural goods online and returning them before the trial period ends and he has to pay for them. His older sister, Nori Sakurada, does everything she can to help but is unable to reach Jun.
One day, Jun receives a letter claiming he has won a prize, and asking whether or not he would "Wind" or "Not Wind". After putting the letter in his drawer as per the instructions on the letter, he receives a beautifully crafted box right after Nori comes to complain about his habits. Within is a humanoid doll wearing clothing in Victorian style. Curious, Jun winds up the doll. The doll then gets up on its own, and walks over to him and slaps him. She later on says, "My name is Shinku, the fifth doll of the Rozen Maiden." Shinku is a doll from the "Rozen Maiden" collection, and before Jun can take in what happened, Jun now holds the responsibility to protect Shinku's "Rosa Mystica" whilst they are engaged in mysterious battles with other dolls. -- (from Answers.com)

Rozen Maiden Overture is a short OVA featuring one of the dolls, Suigintou.
This is one of my favorite series, I just finished watching the second season today (which consists of 12 episodes). This is such a beautifully written and heart felt story, which makes it an instant win in my book. I highly encourage you guys to watch this.
