Welcome to the official FFVIII thread, this is where you can chat to your heart's delight about the famous final fantasy eight game. The characters, the world, the minigames - triple triad, chobo woods and all the other mini games that i just cannot remember.

I really liked this game it's graphics still are bareable compared to the more updated games, the minigames are also entertaining and triple triad really is a damn trial getting the cards and trying to get each and every single one. The characters also brought the game to life, plus i really liked the cutscenes, space and when squall goes to save rinoa yes i am a typical female i loved the whole scene.

Also the fact you could drive the car was also a great add on. ^_^ i spent ages driving around and always ran out of fuel typical sounds like real life.

so chat to your hearts content.

Ooooh FFVIII thread. I know that some people don't like the general game but they do like TT (Triple Triad). But it's my faverite FF of all. even better than FFVII. The story makes me almost makes me become Squall when i play it. Unlike FFVII it doesn't draw you in but you get so wrapped up in the story and the emotion.

When you said about Squall saving Rinoa, Angelic. If it doesn't in some way make any player feel some caring then they need their emotions checked. But the second most profound moment of the whole game (baring in mind i have neaarly but not quite finished it) is when Squall it struck with the Ice bolt and Rinoa rushes to the edge seeing Squall fall.

I personally like FFVIII, the only thing I think prevented that game from getting more respect was the horrendous junction system, that killed it for me, but it was saved by a good military themed plot, and a good cast of characters. I felt the gameplay was horrible though.

How was the Junction system horrible?

Syke - Yeah when squall was hit by the icicle bolt that did show me some emotion also it was one of the most dramatic cut scenes from the game. I enjoyed this game the most but it is topped with FFx on my favourite list, plus i adored how swuall finally came around throughout the game. We saw him go from trusting no one, not mixing with his team mates, never showing his emotions, not caring about anyone to being a really caring person who embraced his feelings and comrades when the time came. That was the main thing i liked about the game, i loved the fact they showed us it all...

The junction system was a nice touch and one of the simplist thing's to use throughout the game, we could modify our abilitys and stats to however we pleased whereas with other games we could not i thought it was one of the better level build ups.

FFX doesn't top FFVIII except with the same issue as FFVII in better grapics but that aside FFX rates as the second worst in my book from 7 - X/2. not that it isn't good. it's just not great. But FFVIII it's supreme every time i play it. I don't get on that well with the sub quests that well and the static system of leveling up could be reviewed. But the Juntioning once you've got the hang of it. It's incredably easy. Not to mention the fun you could potentialy have by drawing mid battle to boost your stats. Not that i've tried that yet but the power control is so incredible when combined with the story.

And have you ever wonderd why people who don't like FFVIII still love the Gunblade?

You cannot say that FFX doesn't top FFVIII because everyone has a different oppinion. In your oppinion you feel that it cannot be any better than ffviii but there is others in the fanbase that thing that nothing can ever top ffx now ^_^ everyone has different views.

i have always wondered why people like the gunblade yet not the game, doesnt make much sense to me.

So yes it's my opinion. But i think the reason is that they realise that the gun blade is such a cool weapon. even if they don't like the rest of the game they have some respect for at least that aspect of it. or maybe they just fear the emotion behind the fantastic story?

Quite possible not many people like games that have too much emotion in it. Plus the gunblade is a cool weapon and i think people like that and recognise that even before they notice the game they notice the blade.

For starters: your magic wasnt permanent. Of course I havent played the game since like 5 years ago, i'm going to give it another shot today due to lack of games and all.

The thing that I didnt like about it was how you had to draw from your enemies instead of rather earning magic [FFVI] or simply buying it at a store [FFVII, FFI]

Phill when we've talked about FFVIII we both agree the intro with Squall and Seifer fighting where they get the scars. Is just so cool. And we have also decided that if we ever reinacted that I would play Squall and he would play Seifer because we both see ourself in those characters. But dispite all of this. Phill greatly dislikes the game where it is my Faverite even if i don't play it that much.

Buying Magic or earning it that way is the cheap and unrealistic way out. FF8 allows you to get down to grips with the real work. to put it as politly as i can it allows you to get down to the dirty work of manully getting magic while making it part of the story and making it all the more fun because all that hard work makes you more appeciative of the massive advantages you get from having done it.

Personally, 8 is my favorite of the PS Final Fantasy games. I don't know why, but everything it it just seemed to fit right. I did like the drawing of magic, it was a good idea, and the junction system seemed similar to the system that FF6 had in it, which made me happy. xd

Only real complaint was that you were restricted in the amount of different magics that you could have on one character. I didn't really like have to transfer some magic to other characters when I had my 30 different spells and wanted to get another one on the character.

Yes that can be annoying but there is a secret i have. LEVEL UP THE MAGIC. you don't need the lower level magic if you can get hold of the higher level stuff. even then it's still not enough i know. but it's better than before.

Yea i level up the magic so much easier that way or i use stones and revining them so much easier.

See, but that becomes a problem when you've drawn all 100 units of the higher level magic. xd
