Hokay. A bunch of us discussed this and thought it was a pretty nifty idea for an rp.
The idea: Each participant chooses from one to three of the characters they played in Ragnarok Online with the rest of us. The max level range we'll be shooting for is in the neighborhood of 50-60 base level and second job (blacksmith, knight, assassin, etc) level around 10-15. This way we're not rolling through the world. Of course, should someone want to play a novice or first-jobber, that is also fine.
From there we start playing. So far it looks like at least three parties might be forming, though having a character soloing for a while is, like a cat, fine too.
The reason for multiple characters is to allow for more activity without quite enabling more active people to totally overrun slightly less active players. This is not free license to make an entire party composed of your own characters (I'm not worried about it, but felt I should include this for completeness), try to keep interraction between your own character fairly short... probably more in-town cameos than anything else, though coincidental interractions are fine... (like one party entering a dungeon only to find the corpses left by the last party killing monsters).
Another thing to list when you make your post: The names and a few sentences or two about some of the characters you don't want to play, but would like in this world. Feel free to include them at different levels in the grand scheme. These characters will feature in rumors, maybe pop up as NPCs, and in general figure into texturing the world. Other people can post using them, as long as it is relatively short and they don't abuse the character. Examples include stuff like hearing about a blacksmith forging a particularly powerful weapon (like an elemental swordmace +6), doing research from a scroll written by a sage, or buying something from someone's merchant.
Basic rules for characters:
1> Keep the backstory fairly simple. We're looking for flesh them out in game... and not let huge backstories ruin the play.
2> Keep Ninjas and Gunslingers out of it. Neither were in the game when most of us played... so we should keep em out of the world altogether til we have experience with them. Many of us have experience with the Tae-Kwon classes... so they're fine. However, I'm keeping Wong as a rumor character myself.
3> Don't concern yourself too much with the exact build of your character. Just note the basic build type (Bow-rogue, combat-sage, Battlesmith, Battlepriest, shield Sader, etc) and stick with the general idea of that. You'll have an idea what you'll need for stats and skills, but don't sweat it if you don't have exact numbers.
4> Keep the presence of rebirthed characters to a relative minimum.
5> I think that's it, but there might be more.
