Title: Kuro to Murasaki (Black and Purple)

RPers: x~Ho-sama~x as Kurogane, Phiso as Tomoyo-hime

Setting: Nihon

Background Story: The journey is over, and the group has separated. Sakura and Syaoran have returned to Clow, and Fai has not only been de-vampirezed, but has also become King of Ceres after dealing with Ashura. As such, Kurogane returns home to his native Nihon.

Nihon was the same, but at the same time, it was totally different. The brat and the princess would no longer be there to protect and to travel with. Mokona would never be there to cause headaches, and Fai...no longer depended on him. Even though Kurogane got what he wished for - to return home - he felt like a piece of his life was lost forever. He had learned more than he ever thought he would on his journey. Without the people that had become his family, he only had the entire world of Nihon left.

'That's not so bad...'
Kurogane thought to himself as he inhaled the air of his country. He remembered every building around him. Nihon seemed to have been waiting for him to return. He wouldn't think of the kid, the princess, the mage, or the meatbun for as long as he could. He was home and that was were he belonged.

Tomoyo sighed as she prepared to check on the castle's kekkai, her body automatically going through the motions as her mind wandered. It had been over a year - two, maybe, or three, she had lost count - since she had banished her strongest ninja, and as usual she felt the absence of his presence echoing through the castle halls.

For years he had been by her side, protecting her and their country with his sword and his iron will; unfortunately, circumstances beyond her control forced her to send him off, leaving her to wait for him and pray that everything would turn out for the best.

Wondering for the upteenth time how he was doing on his journey, Tomoyo closed her eyes and activated her magic, examining the kekkai and checking for any weak spots. Her brow furrowing slightly, she noticed a gaping hole in the barrier, but it left as soon as it came, leaving a familiar aura in its wake.

"Kurogane?" she breathed, unable to believe it. Was that really him?

Kurogane frowned. He had to get to Tomoyo right away. As it usually did when he was home, an intense sense of worry mixed with duty overwhelmed his broody self. Kurogane rushed towards the castle with his long black cape blowing behind him. The ninja didn't know how he would feel when he saw her again.

'If she's taken another ninja as her favorite I'll kill her!'
Kurogane scowled. He was only ever allowed to be the best and the most trusted from now on, just as he always had been.

He noticed a few familiar faces as he made his way too the castle. All looked afraid and surprised to see him again. "Get out of my way!"

Tomoyo quickly but efficiently checked the rest of the barrier, wishing she could just leave it be and search for Kurogane but knowing that it was her duty to ensure her people's safety. Once she was confident she could leave and everything would be all right, Tomoyo opened her eyes and rushed out of the room, heading downstairs and to the front as quickly as possible.

He looked about ready to kill the two gaurds at the gate. "You remember me."

He grinned maliciously as they nodded in fear. They thought he was the same. Kurogane was different before, but they didn't have to know that. He removed the katana he had gained on his journey from it's sheath and walked forward. "Then you know to MOVE."

The men didn't act quickly enough for Kurogane and he just kicked the doors open. Where was Tomoyo? Was she ok? If anything drastic had happened since his departure all Hell would break loose. "Tomoyo-hime! Where are you?!"

Tomoyo wasn't too far from the entrance when she heard Kurogane call her name. She stopped, trying to take it all in. She hadn't really believed that he had returned; not even now, with his voice echoing in the entrance hall, was she certain that her mind wasn't playing tricks on her. Still, she had to look.

Walking much more slowly now, she made her way down the last flight of stairs and opened the doors hesitantly, her heart beating painfully fast as she prepared to either be disappointed or very happy.

Kurogane walked towards where Tomoyo was entering and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the doors open slowly in front of him. His heart did a double beat because he knew who it was. Who else could so calmly open a door when he was about to kill someone if he didn't see her?

It pissed him off, but that anger quickly subsided when he saw the princess. He blinked in confusion. "T-Tomoyo-hime?"

The arm holding his sword lowered slightly to his side as he stared at the princess. She was older. She looked more like a young lady than an irritating little girl. Kurogane assumed she would be just as difficult to deal with. The most important thing was that she was alive and well. That was what completed the satisfaction of his arrival home. "You're..."

Words failed him because he had just too many things to say and they couldn't all come out at once.

Tomoyo almost stopped breathing when she found herself facing Kurogane - an older Kurogane with a different sword and a different air about him, yes, but still, it was her Kurogane. Wondering vaguely where Ginryuu was, for a moment she could do nothing but stare at him, her mind telling her this was all an illusion and her heart insisting that no, he was real.

Caught between simultaneous desires to crack a joke, interrogate him about his journey, scream at him for taking so long, and simply embrace him in the tightest hug she could manage, Tomoyo managed a shaky but joyful smile as she said softly, "Welcome home, Kurogane."

His brow creased. Kurogane was just as stirred emotionally as Tomoyo. He sighed a bit raggedly and kneeled down before her. "It took a while...but I am back...and still in your service."

'...happily.'
Kurogane wanted to add, but if the princess didn't already know, that was her own problem because he wasn't about to say it.

Tomoyo looked down at the kneeling ninja, her smile wavering and her face muscles not entirely sure of what to do. She seemed to be caught between laughing and crying.

"So your travels haven't soured this position to you?" she asked, a slightly joking tone in her voice. Despite the light-hearted quality of her voice, however, that very fear had been nagging her for ages - what if he didn't want to come home?

"This is where I belong. It was my wish to return," Kurogane said in a very somber tone. So many times he had wondered what it would have been like to continue traveling with his group forever. He wouldn't have minded that despite the pain and dangers. In the end, he couldn't stay with them.

To cover his feelings (something he may have learned from Fai), he grinned devilishly up at Tomoyo. "Besides I said I'd return to kick your a**."

Tomoyo gave him a slightly surprised look before laughing a deep laugh that came from her core and bubbling up to the surface like music. Oh, Kurogane... She was immensely glad to see that despite his travels and difficulties he still had that delightful sense of humor she had missed.

Bending down, she took one of his hands into both of his and straightened, pulling him up as she did so and causing him to stand. Beaming up at him, she replied, "Now Kurogane, I don't want to have Souma arrest you."

She smiled up at him, her muscles suddenly twitching and the urge to cry threatening to overcome her. She had started to believe that she would never see him again...

Clearing her throat and flickering her eyes down for a moment, she composed herself before turning her gaze back up to his face. "I imagine you must be tired and rather hungry. Come, let us go to the dining room and chat over a snack, ne?"

"Chat over a snack?" Kurogane looked to the side. That sounded like a girly thing to do. Why did Tomoyo have to put things like that? He wasn't tired nor was he all that hungry, but he did feel like having some of the familiar food from his home. "Fine."

"But..." Kurogane frowned as he beheld Tomoyo's soft, lovely features. From dealing with the elusive and mysterious Fai, he could tell the delicate disturbances in people even more than before. Even from being around the Sakura-hime he could tell these things. Perhaps he had learned to be more respectful, caring, and inquisitive about these feelings. His red eyes looked deeply into Tomoyo's. "You...are you ok?"

'I couldn't have been missed that badly...'

Tomoyo chuckled. Well, even if he wasn't hungry, she was - she hadn't eaten lunch thanks to a treaty she had to help write, and while she was delighted to see Kurogane again, she was beginning to get headache from the lack of food.

When he asked her if she was all right, a flash of alarm crossed her eyes - he hadn't been that perceptive before. He usually thought she was preoccupied or tired when such expressions crossed her face; to recognize her changes in mood so well meant he must have learned the skill on his travels.

"You have grown," she said warmly, both relieved and a bit curious as to how much. "You've become stronger."

Her tone suddenly much brighter, she beamed, "Come now, Kurogane. I'm rather hungry and I know how much you like sushi, so why not see if we can't get one of the cooks to prepare some for us?"
