Seiphira I am just curious what the rules and how it's performed with the horse. Well Gymkhana is a sport on horsebackand you can barrel race pole bend and there's more.

well, the main rule is do the pattern as fast as u can! besides that, u can do it however u want. ur completely judged on speed, so style isnt a concern. u can even ride english and even bareback (traditionally riden western) as long as u do the pattern. u can walk it if u really want to, just dont expect to place! lol. but yeah, there are a lot of events and the patterns are all simple. there's key hole, barrles, flag picking, scurries, pole bending, figure 8, ring spearing, the list goes on. u basically in most of the go through the event one way and come back as fast as u can!

Actually, as far as "tradition" goes, the word gymkana is originally from an Indian word (East Indian, not American Indians), and is a British sport, ridden in English saddles. (The British ruled India for many, many years, and learned polo there as well.) It has become popular here, and both kinds of saddles are used, depending on your location. In the East, mostly gymkana is an English sport, while further West, Western saddles are used. I believe the U.S. Pony Club, which is mostly English, has gymkanas.

Two words about Gymkawnas = speed sports. I think you usualy compeate in a western saddle.
