Okay this thread exist to discuss one of the more contraversial of the Highlander films.

I hated Endgame for the simple fact they couldn't follow thier own Series Mythology correctly.

Note I only saw the THeatrical version not the DVD version that tried to fix several mistakes. but I will also comment on some of thier fixes.

Beheadings on Holy Ground with no consequences Check.

on the DVD they claimed it was only disquised to look like Holy Ground which is just stupid the watchers know enough about Immortals to ensure it actually would be Holy Ground.

Duncan being married before despite the fact in Season 2 it was said clearly that Duncan had never married and was destined to never marry. This one really bothered me it trivializes Tessa's importance in MacLeod's Life.

Rachel being dead when Connor ended contact with her before he killed the Kurgan. Now they could have said he re-established contact with her but they never bothered to explain it in any way shape or form. Now admittedly this is the least bothersome mistake in the movie but it's still a mistake.

Immortals' strength being just the number of heads they've taken. This one really really bugged the crap out of me. If that was the case the Kurgan should have been unbeatable.

You cannot tell me Jacob Kell a second rate K'immie managed to kill more Immortals than folks like the Kurgan, Kronos, Kalas or the like.

Also and a complaint specifically about the DVD Version the Happy ending where Kell spared Kate.

Also the way Connor was killed bugged me. I Know Lambert is aging and can no longer play the immortal character as easily but I just didn't care for how his death was written or carried out on the screen.

It plays too much into the last few seasons of Highlander the Series where Duncan is this Messiah like figure they keep billing him as and frankly I've never though the character deserved it.

I think that one of the biggest thtings that set Endgame up for failure was that the producers were trying to reconcile continuity and try to bring a little order to the Highlander timeline. None of the first four movies really paid attention to the ones that came before and tended to go off in their own direction. Of course, when the series came along and the fan base grew that much more, they had even more to try and piece together.

As for the plotline itself, one of the biggest things that always got to me was the whole rogue Watcher thing. It seems like that every few episodes one of the Watchers would get scared and start trying to stop the Immortals from winning the Prize. Now in Endgame, they're kidnapping Immortals and locking them up so there's always more than one left. I think they used that bit a little too often for my tastes.

All they had to do was follow the TV Series Timeline. That would have avoided the entire mess. But instead they created something that doens't mesh with anything. It doesn't fit with the Series or the First Movie. Which were the only two they were trying to reference.

Not to mention the Rogue Watchers are never even smart about it. YOu want to prevent their ever being a winner in the Game. Simply put kidnap an Immortal or two and bury them Several MIles down in an Abandoned Mine.

Problem solved They are too far down for any immortal to ever sense them and thus no one will ever win the Game.

Reviews I found on Wikipedia for Highlander : Endgame;
IGN gave Endgame a score of 8 out of 10, saying that "fans will be pleased," adding: "Endgame proves to be both true to the spirit of the first film and the television series, [it has] a solid story to tell, [and it] features the best fight sequences of the series."[ evil ]
Here's the rest;
Critical reaction to Highlander: Endgame has been mixed to negative. It holds a 12% "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 52 reviews, higher than Highlander II and Highlander III, both of which hold 0% ratings[8], and a score of 21 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on 37 reviews[9].

Elvis Mitchell of The New York Times gave Endgame a mildly positive review, saying: "It's nice to see mindless violence back in a B picture, where it belongs, and the swordplay is impressive. When [the movie] sticks to the hand-to-hand battles and doesn't try to offer deeper thoughts on the life of an immortal, it works on its own terms."[10]

Andrew O'Hehir of Salon.com said, "Personally, I enjoyed it[ stressed ] about the way I enjoyed the Mortal Kombat movies, meaning that its genuine fun and its unintentionally ridiculous moments are roughly in balance."[ xp ][12]

Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly remarked: [Fans] will be thrilled that Connor MacLeod and his fellow clansman Duncan MacLeod engage in a vein-popping showdown to see which immortal will bump off the other, thereby achieving a quickening of multiorgasmic proportions. Those who aren't in the cult of this popular genre fantasy not only won't understand what the previous sentence is about, but may also wonder what's so great about perpetual life if it entails shlepping from one badly lit, cheesily art-directed, peat bog-colored century to another, spouting hollow dialogue."[6]

Travis Eddings of Film Threat gave the film one half star out of five, saying: "After viewing Highlander: Endgame, it's obvious that Aarniokoski has no idea how to make a film[ exclaim ]. ... The only reason why this film earns one-half of a star instead of zero is due to some unintended laughs. It's funny to see what passes as acting in this movie."[13] James Brundage of FilmCritic.com gave the film one and half stars out of five, saying: "Highlander: Endgame possesses all of the elements of a straight-to-video action movie. Cheap special effects that look cool, weak characters that still pull heartstrings, and a bunch of actors no one really knows unless you have seen this or that obscure flick. And, taking that view, one wonders why the hell I even had to watch Highlander: Endgame in theatres [ crying ]."[14]

Carlo Cavagna of About Film called the film "a disaster," adding: "The plot and the characters' motivations are nonsense. Lambert's character has nowhere to go, and his once-magnetic glower is tired and worn. Several opportunities for spectacular action are squandered because the movie's villain has a tendency to execute summarily his own henchmen. Paul's modicum of charisma, director Douglas Aarniokoski's broad panoramas that recall the original Highlander, and Lambert's amusing skirmishes with a Scottish accent are not enough to provide any redeeming value.[15]
