First off... In order for you to learn kanji at ALL, you're going to need to learn a little basic Japanese. (For those of you who know it, goodie for you. For those of you who THINK you know it, stay and learn and for those of you who are just learning, SIT YOUR a** DOWN AND DON'T GO NOWHERES.)
THE LESSON OF HELL- A Crash Course in Modern Japanese
For these lessons, wasabi sensei shall be typing japanese in ENGLISH letters. This is called ROOMAJI. (no not ROO-maji. The ROO is pronounced more like "row", the MA is just "mah" and JI is "gee"... you'll get it eventually)
Japanese have two types of "alphabet"s that consist of 46 letters apiece.
The first is called HIRAGANA. This is mainly used for writing "authentic" japanese words like NEKO (cat) or MADO (door). Goodie for you wasabi made a chart.

The second is called KATAKANA. This is used mainly for sound effects (those silly little creepy floaty words in your comics like "bang" or "boom" or "squish") or foreign words like DOKI DOKI (heart-beating noise) or RAMEN (yes... ramen is a foreign word).

And here is a chart that will help you pronounce it all. It makes no difference if the katakana and the hiragana look different, when you pronounce it it sounds the same. there are also no Cs in japanese but some weirdos can't pronounce the words without them so i put um in there. rolleyes

That concludes our hiragana and katakana learning portion. Next up is putting these together to make WORDS!! eek
By the way... in case you didn't notice, JAPANESE IS READ RIGHT TO LEFT WHEN IT'S UP ND dOWN! but since wasabi sensei is nice, he'll be writing left to right horizontally. aren't you lucky? blaugh
