Hey. I want to know what everyone's opinion is on same-sex marriage.

Basic Outline:

What is your stance on same-sex marriage?
Why do you feel that way?
Some facts to back up your opinion would help as well.
Dont Flame.. Its worthless.

Edit:

My Opinion: I believe there is nothing wrong with it at all. I dont think anyone has the right to tell them that they cant love who they want to love.

I'm for it.
There's nothing wrong with it, an attraction to somebody is an attraction. If we allow straight relationships, why not homosexual relationships?
There is scientific evidence of homosexuality being fine too. All animals have homosexual traits, they've done studies and there's nothing wrong with it according to them.

It's not bad, just that people see that angle a little disturbing for future generations, so they consider this a 'bad influence', but many understand that is just natural attraction, in fact, sometimes it could be something appearing from the nowhere, like a fetish, but fetishism is more about pleasure, not attraction.

Oh, heh, and answering the first question, yeah, I'm in favor of, people have freedom to do anything. but nothing more than they can chew up, and as far as I know, marriage is about joining a couple, not necessarily a joining a man and a woman.

Marriage is not a religious practice, it's a cultural and legal one. On that basis, it is illegal and immoral to not give that same right to same-sex couples.

So I am totally in favour of it.

All the arguments I have heard against it are based on prejudices and religious ideas, things which have no place in a legal discussion.

Claims that it is "unnatural", or "immoral" have no place here.

"Unnatural"? Plenty of animals engage in homosexual partnerships, enough to remove that argument. And "immoral" is so hopelessly subjective.

As fas as I am concerned who people choose to live their lives with is their business, and not the public's.

Also, in terms of looking at the costs and benefits of the two options.
1) We allow same sex couples to marry.
The cost is you lose support among the religious. A sizable portion of the US population. You also risk small amounts of civil disobedience, and a slightl raise in hate crimes against gay people.
Benefits, you correct an injustice, and give equal standing to an oppressed minority. You increase revenue spending in the wedding industry.

2) Disallow it.
Costs, you continue to oppress a group of people, simply because of who they are. You validate the oppression of a group of closeminded bigots.
Benefits, looks good in an election, when you have to fight for every vote that's a god thing.

So all in all, the right choice is obvious. Whether people as a whole will go for it is another matter.

for.

i mean, lots of people say that marriage belongs to religion, and if we allow gay marriage, then it would be blatantly committing a sin against the church and pretty much insulting them.

my question is, then why do they not seem to have much of a problem with atheists getting married? i never see people opposing that.
last time i checked, not following the christian faith is a sin against god, according to the bible. confused

and isn't the bible the source of what is a sin and what isn't?

either give marriage to the church solely, or leave it up to law to decide.

to do otherwise is hypocritical.

Wow. I feel special. I'm the only one against thus far.

Here's why I'm against it:

First of all, I am a Christian. So you know that whole she-bang about not being gay and all that jazz. Second, state marriage is legally considered the same as being married in the church. Which I have a big problem with. Christianity expounds against homosexual marriage and so people who proudly disobey that doctrine should not be allowed in the church, Don't get me wrong though. Quite frankly, I don't much care if homosexuals get married or not. It's their choice. I just think that they should be allowed only a legal marriage, not a Christian one.

Another thing to note, I think that you should be welcomed into the church if you are homosexual, but that lifestyle should not be uplifted. Hopefully over time the person will change.

That probably wasn't the most crowd pleasing thing to say.

For.
I had to do a persuasive essay on this to see whether i think it should be legal or not.
The reason: People shouldn't judge or criticize others just for who they in love with.
Also, doesn't it seem like it's taking our own rights away?
