Super Nerds Unite!!!! Um yeah, so like... I need some people to talk physics with, because I can't seem to find any discussion boards that talk about it to any depth. So, if you have any insight or opinion to any physics, whether Newtonian, Quantum, Theoretical.... ANY TYPE! Please feel free to discuss here. Its ok to release your inner nerdiness, we wont tell anyone! cool

I myself, am fascinated by modern day Quantum Physics. This stuff just continuously blows my mind. Its just sooo damn interesting. And for those who aren't in the know, I got some recommendations smile

Recommendations:

Video
The Elegant Universe on Nova TV
HERE
They have all the episodes available for download... you just have to install quicktime, if you don't already have it.

Books
"The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene
ISBN# 0-375-70811-1

This book is the same as the show it was based off. Its a great read, and good for all levels of physics. Whether you're just starting out, or a professor from Yale!

"The Fabric of the Cosmos" by Brian Greene
ISBN# 0-375-72720-5
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
This book takes a deeper look into the construction of oue universe, and its laws and principles based upon the newly developed M Theory. I'd recommend this, after completion of Greene's first book. It basically expands on the chemistry of the first book.

"Dancing Wu Li Masters" by Gary Zukav
ISBN# 0-06-095968-1
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
This book is an introduction into the world of Quantum Physics. Zukav doesn't teach in this book, but you definitely learn quite a bit in terms of things from the existence blackholes and time dilation to quantum warps and supersymmetry. I definitely recommend this book, for anyone interested in physics, who has some small knowledge within physics.

Just wanted to give you guys a few sources to stimulate some convo damnit!! At the least, watch the online videos!! scream
Hope atleast one person is interested in this kinda stuff. sweatdrop

Yea yea... I heard that and I was like "WTF?". But its all good, cuz I'm sure I could put Lupe under the table on String theory, hahaha.

my friend was reading that fabric of cosmos book in 8th grade, i tried reading a couple pages but that stuff just gave me a headache

oh and i was watchng batman the other day and the guy made copies of himself using some quantum physics, theoredically is that possible?

LOL, well if we wanna relate it to cartoons. I suppose if we take a deeper look at the theoretical model of super symmetry, then it coould be possible
Quote:
Super Symmertry
One very promising candidate for a theory which goes beyond the Standard Model. According to supersymmetry, every particle has a supersymmetric partner – every has a corresponding exchange particle and vice versa. As yet, none of these “shadow particles” has been detected and there is therefore no proof that the theory of supersymme-try is valid

Einstein referred to this unexplainable (at the time) phenomina a "spooky action at a distance".

a yo, what about the theory behind time travel? and do you actually think its possible?

The movie What the Bleep Do We Know!? uses quantum physics to explain lots of things long thought impossible. I suppose it relies heavily on the mind and consciousness of people: our perceptions and inner-most beliefs act highly on our physical environment.

As for being in two places at once, it's possible.. they've done it with atoms, I've heard.

Time travel... Donnie Darko, anyone? ;x

And I've seen Elegant Universe. Really, really interesting. The String Theory would rock my socks if the documentary was done a little better. The ending just left me hanging. D:

I still love you Mecca. If you like, I can still school you though, cuz you don't really learn about this stuff contemporary physics classes. ninja

Well, its theoretically possible to travel forward in time. If we managed to find a power source that could propel us somewhat close to the speed of light. Due to the time dilation effect, time would pass for you at a normal rate relative to you... while the rest of the world would pass time alot faster relative to you. So for example, if you were travelling 95% light speed for the duration of a week, and where to suddenly come to a stop... you would find that 3 weeks passed within that same amount of time (my math is off here, don't quote those exact numbers). So, there you would have travelled 2 weeks into the future. Now is it possible to travel backwards in time?? Man, thats what string theory is suggesting. That stuff still blows my head, because string theory refers to time as a fourth dimension, just like the 3 dimensions of space. Very revolutionary thinking.

haha, its okay. i didn't like physics too much, dunno why i needed 2 physics classes for a friggin biotech major. mad
