Try a triangle body shape. It would be best to have the mouse trap at the base end, so you can glue down both sides of the mouse trap, not like the other side.

Try different sizes of arms to max out the abilities of the mouse trap. Make sure you can remove the mouse trap and place another there, as mouse traps wear out quickly (they're meant for one use).

Find a good angle of a strong pen that connects a string from the arm attached to the mousetrap so it lets off right after the string isn't wrapped around the axle.

Mouse traps are more than powerful enough to power the car as far as teachers assign, so the axle doesn't have to be that smooth. You could use straws and a wooden dowel as your axle, or go higher tech and use a a ball bearing (you can find them at any hardware store).

The wheels should have a grippy surface so they grip the ground when they spin. If you're not using a cd for the wheels (they're light weight, and spin well, just hard to put a grippy surface on because they're so thin), use a rubber band. If not, you could use some form of glue on the cd, or just suffer with a rubber band.

Any questions?

Mousetrap car? Like somehting to chase rats? Clever.

First of all, try to get the measures of the rat height and the height from the floor to the car (from below the car). Try to test many possible actions the rat could make and prepare to go shopping.

Try to get a Remote control car (Try to buy it big, cheap and flashy as possible, but first make sure that the rat could easily make contact with the part below the car), then take the chasis of if it's to heavy, if you can, remove some components that are not important. Then, buy and install the mousetrap below the wheels, and since there's isn't cheese scent spray, you can buy a chocolate scent spray, rats are highly addictive to chocolate, then spray it carefully all around the mousetrap, make sure you bought the most powerful scent, if this doesn't work, talk to an exterminator and ask him how to lure an average rat and that can be attached to a mousetrap.

If you did everything I told you, your model would look something like this:

The point of my theory is to persuade the rat to come to the car, the remote function is just when the rat is in the trigger zone, so you start it, and the rat could just have minimum chances of escaping. In other words: Don't chase the rat, just wait when the rat comes close enough to the trap and start the car.

Any doubts PM me.

I take it you mean a small model vehicle, where the mouse trap provides the driving power?

The best I can think of is that you build a generic square box with an aexl for the back wheels, and wrap a string around the axel and tie to the mousetrap, in such a manner that when the trap is triggered the closing jaws pull the axel around and that drives the car foreward.

You would need decent grippy tyres, and I suspect that making is relatively heavy would be a good idea as well. To improve grip.
