All the Lemmony Snicket books had symbolism

Did you know that

Here is an example

In the very last book they're on that island. In the middle of the island is a tree. this tree holds some secret knowledge. This muchly represents the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Also, the Incredibly Deadly Viper holds the apple in his mouth when he gives it to Violet, just as Satan, in the form of a serpent, gave the apple to Eve.

There's a lot of symbolism in the books, which is always neat to read. In the Slippery Slope there's a part which is almost exactly like one of the parts of Dante's Inferno. Snicket is certainly a knowledgeable guy since he put in so many literary references, especially with the character names.

You can see some of them in Mara's "Castways in The End" thread. But there's others too.

For example, Beatrice could refer to (among other things) a character in Dante's Inferno or Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

Baudelaire refers to the poet Charles Baudelaire (I have a thread on that back a page or so), etc.

Isadora Duncan was a famous Dancer in the time when dancing was waltzes, she gave us what teens now consider dancing, and she was very liberal in the way she dressed... almost an antithesis of the triplets though, perhaps that they gave the Baudelairs a new perspective to look (seeing the big picture about the Entire V.F.D. Schism)
