There are no "powers" randomly given. "powers" in Astrodoth are Magic.
Like said, there are no random powers. Some races have different racial traits, however.
If there was an Elf walking down a hall, and there was a door inside the wall that normal eyes couldn't see, the elf would automatically sense the secret passage. This does NOT mean, however, that it would know how to open it, such as when there is a secret lever somewhere else.
If a Dwarf were walking in caves, and there was an unnotable trap in the stone, he would automatically sense it. If the Stone was weak, and might break soon, he would sense it.
These things are just some of the abilities racially given to Dwarves and Elves and such. Anyway, back to the point; Magic wares off unless it's a permanent enchantment onto an object. A fireball is instant, and goes out once it touches water or when it hits something, a lightning bolt goes out in the same way, when it hits something. Charming things and the like, for bards, goes on until they stop playing. Summoning cannot be done right off the bat, there has to be preperations such as a summoning circle and other ceremonial things to help preform the summoning. If there is ANYTHING breaking or crossing over the circle, which is usually made of fine gems, then the demon or summoned creature can simply walk through, into the world to rome freely. Circles are made to protect the caster, if the beast is harmful, or to trap the summoned creature.
