~*How to get over writer's block 101*~

I see that many people are having Writer's block so I thought I would make a how to get over writer's block thread to help you out.

what is Wirter's block?

One entry found for writer's block.

Main Entry: writer's block
Function: noun
: a psychological inhibition preventing a writer from proceeding with a piece

Insert taken from webster's diconary

now some cases of writer's block is hard to get rid of

Long lasting writer's block

There have been cases where writer's block has lasted for years or decades. The most notable example of this in modern literary history was Henry Roth's writer's block which persisted for sixty years and was caused by a combination of depression, political problems, and an unwillingness to confront past problems. This kind of writer's block seems to be quite rare, and most writer's block lasts between an hour and a week. [citation needed] Writer's block has caused problems for writer using the serial form, such as Stephen King's The Green Mile or Bag of Bones.

Over coming the blank page demon!

but hopefully that your writer's block won't last that long! But thankfully there is some cures! If you have no idea for a story and you have the urge to write try these:

Quote:
Setting a time and write whatever comes to mind, without stopping, for that time.
Using writers' exercises such as "chunking". They use many websites that contain numerous creative writing exercises. Writers read an exercise, and do it.
Taking a break, meditating, or doing relaxation exercises to relieve any pressure on oneself and on the writing.
Doing something out of the ordinary. If writer's block comes from a lack of new ideas, attempts to spark creativity by going somewhere new or doing something different can be useful.
Returning to the writing after a lapse of a day or two.
Write a basic plot outline of the story from beginning, middle and conclusion if having problems to keep the story on the rails.
Write or type out a complete short story by one's favourite author. By the end of ten to twenty pages, the mind is properly engaged to again be creative.

"Setting a time and write whatever comes to mind, without stopping, for that time."

This method really does work, at least for some people. I've heard from teachers and friends that writing just, pretty much, randomly with no real aim is a great way to spark creativity. It also helps you to discover things about yourself that, maybe, you didn't know before.

Where the hell've you been hiding?
Anyway, I tried just writing whatever a few times. I got some really weird essays out of it, but no cure for writer's block. I've found that writing prompts work much better for me.

Writting block is troublesome, and it's feels good to finally get over it and write a amazing story and/or fanfic.

Here's my delema:

I'm a fast typer, but no one can type as fast as they think. Because of this, I think of multiple awesome ideas at the same time, but can't get them all typed out onto the page.

Here's my solution:

I lay down on by back in a dark room with a tape recorder. Then I just talk to myself about the story. I give myself ideas and go through multiple plot situations, character involvments, and timeline settings. Then when I'm all run out, I sit in front of my computer and listen to what I've recorded. The ideas are down forever, and you can play different ones over and over to see which you like best, which works best for the story, etc.

...A little strange, I know, but it works!!! sweatdrop

I'm in a rather big writer's block... my story is in the Read & Reveiw subforum. It's called Rush's Sailor Moon Fanfiction. I can't think of anything to write... I left quotation marks at the last sentence open on porpuse, as I will be adding in more dialogue there. If anyone has any good suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.

writersdigest.com has an extensive list of very useful prompts hidden somewhere on their site. I think they do a prompt a day, but they may not anymore.

I've found that opening one of my stories and writing a poem out of the words I see can make me start writing again. It's sort of like a jump start, and fires me up. It also works when you write a poem based on the items you see in your environment.

Basically, what I'm saying is just write something. It doesn't matter what. It can be poetry, a diary, a dream journal (which are also useful for story ideas), or just a description of a character (I've come up with several OCs that way).

My problem has never really been writers block so much as posting block! I always found that getting feedback on what I have written helps me stay intrested in a story I'm writing. But i hate typing so I don't post, so ppl don't read it and i lose intrest. I have a Lord of the Rings story that i continued writing but didn't post because i don't like typing. But I'm trying really hard to get over that!!

My Writer's Block time is growing and growing by the day. I just don't have the time to sit down and write.
