Well lately I've been hearing a lot of mixed storys. Some say that breakdancing is bad for your health, giving you perminate injurys, others say that as long as you take breaks from breakdancing and let your body heal, then you end up in better health over time because of the amount of muscles 'n everything you gain. So, is it true breakdancing's bad for your health, or only bad if you do it too much? And how much do you reccomend I should do it per week?

LOL.

it's not bad for your health at ALL! you only get injured if you get impatient and rush the training.

i've been a bboy for almost 6 years now, so i'll try and shed some light.

breaking is a very diverse hip hop dance form. it's lasted this long because cats out there are constantly evolving it, by incorporating the basic fundamentals with other very different styles, such as gymnastics, capoeira, kung fu, house, salsa, etc., etc, (seriously! a very large number of dance styles can be found in breaking if you look close enough! both delibrately and coincidentally.)

now with that said, you need to be aware that proper training is absolutely necessary to obtain these moves. People don't realize this because it's a street dance form, and people don't expect to see so much athleticism, flexibility, and bodily coordintation come from something that developed in the streets.

the small percentage of injuries that happen in breaking, happen from a combination of impatience and training the moves improperly. you need to understand that, just like with any other physical activity, you 1st need to stretch and warm up properly.

next after warming up and stretching, understand that whatever move you're practicing takes repetition to get it. When you lift weights for the 1st time, like say bench press, do you start at 300 lbs.???? HELL NO! you start with a low weight and build right??

there are some easy moves to get, that may take a couple days to a couple weeks, BUT the more fancy, dazzling, crowd pleasing moves can take months to possibly years to master!!!

so...................uh..........yeah, hope that helps.

feel free to ask anyother questions, i'll try my best to answer. i reeaally love b-boying and hope to do this till i'm 40 like alieness or crazy legs. peezout homie.

oh sorry, to answer your last question

do it for a few hours every day if you like! just know your limits. if you start feeling some sort of pain the next day from practicing, take a break. learn to listen to your body.

It's just like any other physical activity. If you're careful, it's healthy.

It's not that bad for you,but if you do it for a while, it could damage your joints.
