This is a thread dedicated to my infinate imagination and the short stories I create within its endless boundries...
Amara
Long ago there was a small, quiet little girl. Her name was Amara. Amara was no ordinary child; she had a power mortals could only have in dreams. She was feared and revered by many in the village as both god and daemon. Though she always meant well whispers began about her and her mother. Calling them deamons and the people began to believe the whispers and curse the mother and child. The one who had started the awful rumors had been none other than the priest. He felt threatened by the small child, and began calling her ‘Devil’s child’. The town’s people were only simple folk and none to bright. They believed everything the conniving priest said. All Amara had wanted was a quiet home, one with a real family like the ones she read about in stories. Her mother had died in childbirth, the villagers believed this to be an omen (it was really the evil priest). In the eyes of her fellow peers she only saw fear and hate. In the eyes of adults she found only cold cruelty. She tried to tell them she wasn’t what the priest made her out to be, but no one believed her. One day the town banded together to drive Amara out of their town. On the edge of the town, she turned to the people.
“You are blind to not see the true Devil. On your heads be it a curse I place, one chance received through time and space. Reject not this last salvation, for it will mean your damnation.” With that she turned and fled into the mountains. The villagers feared the girl’s curse, and wished to listen, but the priest merely brushed it aside. The priest said that it must have been something the child’s father had taught her (remember, if you will, that she is supposed to be the daughter of the devil). Years passed and the curse became just another nursery rhyme. It was over 100 years later that a little boy showed signs of having powers like Amara. Many thought he was the devil (fueled of course by the new priest’s words), but he and his parents knew differently. His mother and father tried in vain to protect their child (they happened to know that the nursery rhyme was in fact the curse). They tried in vain to convince them that he was not the devil’s son. But once again the villagers had been blinded by the priest and refused to listen. The boy’s parents were burned for devil worshiping. Upon seeing his parents burn something happened. The earth opened at the boy’s feet and swallowed up the whole village. The crevice did not fully close, and it seemed to be a wound that the earth would never heal. Through his tears he heard someone, but when he spun around all he saw were the rare mountain flowers, Amaris. He realized he was in a sea of them, smiling he looked around. Out of the corner of his eye he saw movement. Spinning around he was met with a bright smile and laughing eyes.
“Who are you?” the boy asked, more surprised than suspicious. The girl smiled and extended a hand. Once the boy had taken it she laughed.
“I am Amara, and you have set me free.” Smiling again she lead him to a rock in the middle of the azure, lavender sea. “Now I am no longer alone, and we shall fly for all eternity free as birds.” With that they lept up into the sky hand-in-hand into the horizon.
Okie Dokie...Around Da Ville we have quite a few literary contests and that's what started me on writing short stories...I intend to submit this one although I"m not sure how well it'll do later, but here it is for every one to pick apart stare just be gentle...
