Downtown In-Character Event Thread
Please join us in this thread on Sunday the 22nd at 7PM est, and on into the night, for prizes, chat, and a night of role playing!
(Please do not post on this thread until the cellebration begins.)
All Havens Day
This holiday is similar to Independence Day. It commemorates a very important date in the history of the city. In the early history of Crosshaven, it was called "Northern Cross," and it was a crossroads between many different lands. The government would juggle between different political parties, most of them corrupted, as money and varieties of people passed through the city. During this dark era, the Gifted of the city were shunned and mistrusted. The government tried to keep them out of the city, and confine them to shanty towns and prisons if they slipped in. After years of this, there was a revolution and power was seized by a group of allied Gifted and normal humans. Soon after, the city's first Gifted Governor came to power.
As the first of the new Governor's many reforms, he renamed the city "Crosshaven," and declared that the city would keep open its gates and welcome people of all walks of life inside its borders. There would no longer be any official government control of the gifted, and all people would enjoy equal liberties. The people went a step forward, and began to recognize the city a haven for all wayward and lost travellers, establishing the customs of hospitality and tolerance.
Not only does this holiday represent a day of triumph for civil rights, but it represents the core of Crosshaven's philosophy: All are welcome.
The Cellebration
The streets of downtown Crosshaven are draped with flashing lights, and the doors and gates of businesses are left wide open. The entire city is invited to mix and cellebrate. Usually, crime doesn't spike on this holiday, in spite of the open doors, because there is always increased police presence in the downtown area.
The Square
Among the open doors are Town Hall, Daniel's Tavern, and most of the little shops downtown. It's almost litke a citywide block party.

~She's present, at least there's that, though she's drifting through in a kind of weary fog, her mind not on the things in front of her eyes. Lucky for her, she's got good instincts, and she can dodge all of the foot traffic without having to pay too much attention. She quietly weaves through the crowds.~

Though he usually watches these things from a perch on a building top, this time he's moving with the crowd... He likes the looks of disgust on their faces when they look at his scars, and the way they try to hide it out of politeness.
He doesn't need their pity. He doesn't want their politeness. But he's rather fond of their fear. It's quite a compliment.

He pushes his way put of the alley where his club was slowly loosing customers due to the commotion going on out in the streets. He had been so clamped up in his little hole in the wall that he hadn't been out into this part of the world for a very long time. His hair had increased in length and he looked rather hung over.
The smell of good food however hit his nostrils, so shrugging his shoulders, he pushed farther in, getting shoved along the sidewalk towards the free samples set out by the restaurants.

He watches them, crawling like ants, from the far distance. It is like they are nothing of real interest to him. Just meaningless blobs of flesh going on about their meaningless daily lives.
...and they used to call him the life of the party....

He grumbles at being bumped again, but noticing that it was by a pretty little red head, his hand quickly gave her a pinch where his hand most definitely did not belong.
He smiled, pleased with himself as he reached the tables and grabbed a handful of chips. A few people rolled their eyes at him, he smelled of booze and cigarettes, and didn't seem to believe in lines. However, he seemed to be loving the festivities.

~Now, if anything could bring Rose out of her own little world, it was a pinch to the derriere. She jumps a bit, and turns around. Instincutally and intellectually, she is ambivelant. She wants to appologize for bumping him and slap the fire out of him for where he put his hand.

"What the fu--" His handful of chips hit the ground and there are snickers of people happy to see the man got what he deserved. His face turns to a deep red and he holds his cheek for a moment. "God damn girl, it was only a little pinch! You ran into me after all, therefore it was equal pay!"
He then grins and gives her a wink, "But I forgive you for your over reaction, I suppose it's in your sex afterall."

He makes a 'tsk tsk' sound with his tounge and shakes his head disappointedly, "So pretty, and yet so bitter...what a shame." He grabs another handful of chips and pops one in his mouth, now leaning against the table to watch her walk away. "Hey sweet heart!" He calls out before she disappears, "If you ever need a man to put a smile on your face, stop by my club sometime!"
He chuckles and continues walking, shoving his hand into the face of some guy about to make a comment back at him. The guy cries out in pain and holds his nose as it starts to bleed, but Cain is already lost in the crowds again, heading off to the beer tasting stands.

~She takes the scathing comment at her back without gratifying him with an answer. She has a man, a real man. And he is, at present, the subject on her mind. She moves then to a quieter place, and rests her back against the old stone of the front facade of the towne hall. She watches the party with folded arms. So silly, she thinks, to cellebrate a day of unity by skulking against a wall.~

As he moves through the streets with Colon, he raises his head, and sees the loud business going on down the street. "What the devil... a local holiday. You don't seem in the mood for excitement, Colon. Can we avoid it and still get you back home quickly? or are we going to have to go through it?"
