The Observatory
This tall structure, somewhat shaped like massive telescope, is the general workplace of the mages. They study the planets and constellations and draw upon their power in their magical tecniques.

Roto felt uneasy as he approached the observatory. He never understood magic very well being raised on the plains he didn't understand it that well. He pushed open the creaky door to the Observatory and looked around in wonder. There were so many maps, bottles, and quills everywhere. "I have a message from-" Roto began when he was interrupted by an aged voice belonging to a Sage in the far corner of the room that waved his hand at a table "Put it on the table and please leave quietly." the sage said. Roto understood the tone, it was the kind scientists used when they were busy and had no time to be daeling with underlings. "Yes sir." Roto said as he moved to do as he was told. In the process of placing the letter on the table Roto saw plans for a special bowastring that was supposed to be incredibly flexible even when pulled to the max. 'Incredible..." Roto said thinking of how amazing it would be to have an item like that. "You like it child?" said the sage standing at Roto's side. Roto stepped back in surprise almost backing into a bubbling neon pink potion. "No-I mean yes... I mean i am sorry i didn't mean to pry." Roto said averting his eyes to the floor. "That's okay boy these were meant for the archers anyway. Here take one for your bow." the sage said with a smile that was more like a scientist watching a prized experiment. Roto took the offered bowstring and pulled it taught and tested its flexibility with the help of a twist from the mage. He could feel the string twist in his hands. "What is it?" Roto said with open amazement. "It is one of our best works. it was intended for the archers but there was an incident so we had to take it back to the drawing board. We were about to give it to an archer anyway so it's good you came." the sage smiled his odd smile again. "What is this material? I have nevr felt it before..." Roto said again with wonder. "A secret." the sage said. "Secret." Roto nodded unthinkingly. "It is guaranteed never to break. It's yours boy." the sage said. Roto finally tore his eyes of the string "REALLY! Thank you so much." he exclaimed. " If it does break just let us know and we'll give you an improved one." the sage said and turned away with a dark smile that Roto did not notice. "Thank you..." Roto said once more staring at the string. He practically dashed out of the building unable to wait to reach the archery range and test his new item. All the while the Sage watched him from the doorway of the Observatory. His newest guinea pig.

Roto reached the observatoryand eagerly entered, hoping to thank the sage that had given him his amazing new bowstring. However, the Observatory was relatively empty compared to the day before. There was one scientist that was younger than all the rest. Roto automatically knew that he was the one the king meant for him to speak to. He strode over to the man as quietly as possible and stood so as to be noticed. "Roto Gun reporting toyou under orders of the King for an assignment." he said. Then waited to be addressed by the sage.

The young mage turned to face Roto. "Oh, you need to speak to Sage Nerru, who is out, at the moment, on some important business. However, he did leave this note for you." He reached into his pocket and handed Roto a scroll. The Archer quickly unravelled the letter and read what had been written:
"Roto,
I am sorry I cannot be the one to debrief you on this mission, but I have a student of my own in which can help you. His name is Raiyu and he can be found in the Outskirts of the kingdom. Go there, for there is important work to be done.
Thank you, Nerru"

After reading the letter Roto felt a slight tingle. He hadn't hoped to revisit the outskirts for some time. However it was an official mission and he knew that he would have to go there someday. Roto thanked the sage and headed back to his home to gather any necessary equipment for the journey.

Roto calmly stepped into the observatory and found all eyes on him. At first he was worried then he realized that they could probably feel some sort of power from the runes. "I am Roto Gun here to complete my mission for his majesty. As per his request i have retrieved the runes of light and dark." he said as he took a step into the room. He laid the runes down in front of the young sage he had spoken to on his last visit and promptly left the room. He was tired so very tired. he headed for home without the energy to een practice his archery.

Nerru was very pleased to see that Roto had brought back the runes of light and dark. His studies of the magcal stones could now continue. He sat down at his very cluttered desk and pushed all the papers on the floor and placed the runes on the table. They had a glowing essence of black and white. "Amazing." Nerru said under his breath.
