I give them balance. Mr. Crawford has the advantage of being the origoanl, and he is a better singer. HOWEVER, our Butler has the advantage in the movie of first of having effects, though imo he looks the part of the phantom SO MUCH MORE. I give it balance, but overall, MR. Crawford got it down!

Well, I personally can't get over the original. I didn't think Gerard Butler was all that attractive and I didn't think he played a very good Erik either, but that is probably because Michael Crawford was too wonderful, in my own mind, to surpass. I don't think looks, but voice, matters. It doesn't make a difference if they're more attractive seeing as Erik is not an attractive person, at all. But he needs an absolutely spectacular voice, a hold on music so vivid that he can push people in to trances at the sound of his music, that people would call him the "Angel of Music" because it is so fantastic. I was a little disappointed in Gerard Butler's singing, but again, because my mind is set on Michael Crawford, I heard things that bugged me and I couldn't ignore them. Michael Crawford's voice is much more suited to play the part than Gerard Butler. Please understand, these are only opinions.
I respect Gerard Butler fans, however, he will never play as great an Erik as Michael Crawford did in my own mind. biggrin
O.o Michael Crawford isn't still doing Phantom though... xd

Both. 3nodding
Butler is soooooo hot with a mask and has more a pop-voice, which added a nice touch.
Crawford is the original, and also has a beautiful voice. Crawford isn't all that hot, though...

evilfiredevil156 gerard butler, they both did a stupendous job, but i say gerard butler It's close, but I think I'd agree with you. I do like Michael Crawford's voice-- It's a perfect tenor. But I love how rich and full Gerard Butler's sounds... It just sounds so much more powerful. sweatdrop Maybe that's just because I'm a new fan, though. I've never seen Crawford, so I can't compare them regarding looks, but I do think Butler was gorgeous in the movie.

But like you said, Gerard Butler has the more richer and fuller voice. It has a darker tone to it. Plus, when Crawford sings, it sounds like he's straining his voice, whereas Butler seems to have an easier time while singing. So heheh... I'd have to go with Gerard Butler on this one! And not only is Gerard Butler a wonderful singer, he's also a wonderful actor and when he did this movie, it gave me chills. THAT'S how good I thought this movie was!

Actually, Michael Crawford didn't have to strain his voice. It was really beautiful and controlled. Gerard Butler did not have an easier time singing. It's matter of opinion whether Crawford or Butler has a more rich and full voice. And if you listen to the soundtrack to the movie, you'll notice that Gerard Butler pronounces and stresses things wierdly. And like I said, Erik is not in the least supposed to be pretty. You can't be a genius -and- pretty. Raoul is supposed to be gorgeous, not Erik in any way whatsoever. I'll accept that Gerard Butler was good looking in your opinions but I don't see why...he really wasn't pleasing to my eyes or ears....I don't want to appear mean or rude in any way but really, I thought he made a good Phantom when you couldn't see his face well and he wasn't singing or talking. sweatdrop Please don't think poorly of me because I don't like Gerard Butler... sad
