Extended RP Info This is under construction. The information that is already here is solid, and will not be changed, but new info needs to be added (as seen in the list) and the formatting might be made more pretty.
General Information: The Word 'Windigo' is both singular and plural. 'windigos' is considered to be grammatically incorrect.
Ancient-Specific Traits All Ancient-specific traits listed here are generalizations. Not all windigo who are descended from an Ancient believe the same thing. You can personalize their reasons for believing what they do up to an extent (it is encouraged, in fact) but they should still have reasons for falling in with the Ancient that they did. These specific traits, though, are just guidelines.
Death of a Windigo Windigo can be killed - usually by a chopped off head, or possibly blood loss. A stab through the heart is fatal, but there are very few materials that can actually pierce the windigo's ice heart. It's very hard to kill a windigo as a human - only supernatural beings have the ability necessary.
Auras When windigo are killed their aura separates from their host body and continues to exist as an aura, eventually finding another host. When the aura leaves the host body it's appearance becomes that of the original host once more, since it was the aura that had changed the body's appearance in the first place.
An aura may die, if it is out of a body for an extended period of time - usually around 150-200 years. Once it nears that time, it starts to fade away and eventually just disappears. Other than fading, though, an aura cannot die.
Auras cannot be seen by the average human. Their presence is felt, and usually drives people into states of paranoia and hysteria.
Stacked skills: Some abilities of your windigo can stack on top of each other when your windigo evolves. Your windigo's abilities will never 'de-evolve' or disappear. They will either combine or be refined.
For example, in Shin's aura stage he has the ability to sense the spiritual residue left behind by death and magic. In his windigo stage, he gains the ability to see the spiritual residue as well. Now he is able to both sense AND see spiritual residue. So, the two abilities combined.
An example of refined abilities would be Shin's ice creation ability. As an aura he can create a chill around him. As a windigo he can create ice extending from his body. The chill is still there, it's just in a refined form as an actual substance.
A windigo's abilities should never be un-stackable. Your evolved skills should somehow connect to the skills your windigo had as an aura.

Background Information: Today's Windigo The current windigo are NOT fullblooded windigo. They are half windigo, the result of intercourse between a female windigo and another creature, usually a human. The original windigo were only female, and each created by Mother herself. All but three of the full blooded windigo were killed by Mother herself in her treaty with the Gods.
Social Hierarchy The society is a matriarchal type society. The highest revered entity in Windigo society is Mother Earth, commonly referred to as 'Mother'. It is believed that it was she who created the original windigo, in order to combat the rampant abuse of power by the gods. Because of this legend, their society holds the female figure to be the dominant sex.
Next on the tier of hierarchy are the Ancients, considered to be the oldest remaining windigo. They are highly respected and revered by the windigo. They are also more powerful than the average windigo, and justly earn their respect. The Ancients are considered the rulers of the windigo, and tend to work behind the scenes to shape the events of their race.
Beneath them are their representatives - fulfilling the role of their lieutenant, their diplomat and their enforcers. Each Ancient has one, usually one of their most powerful descendants. If one of these ambassadors dies, it may take awhile for the Ancient to choose a suitable replacement, as a hasty decision with a weaker descendant is worse than a patient decision with a stronger descendant. These representatives are the ones that interact with the common windigo as the ancient's authority, and are respected only slightly less than the actual Ancients themselves.
Below the representatives are the common windigo. These windigo consist of the bonded windigo that have chosen an Ancient. They usually are fairly independant in their daily routines, but when they are called upon by their Ancients or their representatives they will naturally do their bidding. This group consists of the majority of the windigo.
Below the common windigo is the wanderer. These windigo have not chosen to bond with an Ancient, for whatever reason, and are usually the pariahs of windigo society. They are considered anti-windigo because they do not align themselves with their race - though this is usually an assumption and not always fact. Some rogue wanderers are known to help the Ancients when they are needed. Most wanderers though, for some reason or another, hate their own race.
(These windigo are not currently 'avaliable' - you cannot make your windigo a wanderer. They will usually be avaliable through special flatsales or contests, and will be introduced later on when we have a larger amount of regular windigo.)
Male Prejudice Male windigo were considered an aberration by the full blooded windigo, mainly because the act of copulation with a lesser species was considered an abhorrence.
The prejudice slowly faded though, as more and more full blooded windigo died and the population of half blooded windigo grew, and by the time Mother and the gods made their treaty prejudice was phased out. To some, though, the prejudice dies hard.
About the Ancients Though the ancients are believed by non-windigo to be shimenj, or half blooded windigo, because of the creation legend - they are actually full blooded windigo, also known as misenz. Though Mother appeased the gods by destroying the full windigo, she secretly kept three alive as a safeguard in case the gods broke their agreement. In order keep them from the gods' notice she weakened their magic and sent them to live in quiet isolation as guardians over the current shimenj half-windigo, disguised as sages. It is common, if unspoken knowledge amongst the windigo that the Ancients ARE full blooded windigo. Creatures outside their race do not know this.
Windigo that chose to bond with Makwa generally: - have a deep sense of respect for raw skills - have dominant and/or charismatic personalities
Windigo that chose to bond with Maigan generally: - prefer logical reasoning - have relatively neutral and/or laid back personalities
Windigo that chose to bond with Wagosh generally: - tend to assist from the sidelines in any open conflict (are less aggressive than their brethren) - have more positive and/or friendly personalities
There are always exceptions to the rule. However, there must be a believable reason as to why the windigo chose to bond with that particular Ancient. Also keep in mind that there are many sub-types to the personalities listed above, and some may even overlap slightly. Be original in your decisions!
Gods Gods are the natural enemy of the windigo. The windigo were created specifically to kill the gods, so their hatred runs deep.
Since gods spent the majority of their power on the creation of the human race, they get their power through humans, specifically their beliefs. The might of a god is determined by the strength of his followers' faith.
Each god created a different culture, and some teamed up or birthed new gods to create a single culture. When a god becomes forgotten, he essentially 'dies'. The windigo were able to kill gods by killing off the majority of their followers.
The complete legend of the fight between the gods and the windigo is avaliable on the front page, under 'windigo myth'.

New Information The Windigo View on Humans To put it simply, windigo hate humans. The degree of hatred depends on their personal views and the views of their Ancients, but their hatred is undisputed.
Why? Well, originally the humans were hated because they were the wasted power of the gods (their bitter enemies). They personified greed and misuse of power.
Now, however, windigo morals have lowered, and their hatred is a base instinct. The justification of this base hatred is the humans' destruction of the environment, which is viewed as defacing and damaging their creator.
Windigo who are looking for hosts are usually looking to utterly ruin a human life for entertainment purposes, if they share Makwa's fierce hatred.
Wagosh's descendants usually pick out a human with certain qualities that they want, such as a pretty face, as if they were picking out a purse to accessorize.
Some windigo just go for the most logical candidate based on what they want (whether it be the easiest, or the strongest, etc), usually those descended from Maigan.
The Exception For some reason, despite his race's prejudice again humans Shin has forced his way into a pact with CWL, a human of no apparent redeeming value. He resides at her house, making it his base of operation for his windigo activities.
Most, if not all windigo do not understand what Shin is doing. It is apparent that he has a plan for this human, however, and though they wonder at his decisions the Windigo do not question it to Shin's face. There is an unspoken knowledge of 'hands off' when it comes to this particular human. Any windigo that harasses CWL without Shin's say so (beyond some expected badgering) will meet extremely dire consequences.
Location It is generally assumed as fact that all windigo that exist live around the Great Lakes of Northern America. This area consists of the southern ends of Canada and Northern parts of the United States. The highest concentration of windigo live in forests from the Great Lakes to state of Maine.
Generally all windigo live in snowy areas. They live in forests, mountains, and valleys - all areas with little to no human population. To hunt, they travel outside of their living space so that their lair is safe from human curiosity.
CWL's house CWL's house is located in Maine, in the north western part of the state. It is next to a national park. It is inside of a foresty area, and a couple miles from a small town where she usually gets her living supplies.

Important Players: Shin Shin is the representative for Maigan. He is the force through which Maigan enacts her plans. He, like his Ancient, is very secretive about what exactly his motives are, but it is no secret that he is charged by his Ancient to protect and cultivate the Windigo species, so he is seen as beneficial and reliable to the common windigo despite his sometimes icy exterior. Windigo with problems or difficulties can rely on Shin for help.
OOC information: Shin is played by clockworklunacy, you can contact her via pm to set up an rp with Shin.
Aubrey Aubrey is the representative for Makwa. More information is coming soon.
OOC information: Aubrey is played by Sika-chan, you can contact her via pm to set up an rp with Aubrey.
Wagosh's representative Wagosh currently has no representative. Her last representative went missing, and has not yet been replaced. Most of her descendants go to either Shin or Aubrey for help. If they can't help, then they take the windigo to Wagosh who will help them herself.
CWL A 20 year old hermit who withdrew herself from society and now lives in an abandoned victorian house. She takes in supernatural strays, though most people claim that the animals she takes care of are merely figments of her imagination.
She caught Shin's attention by housing supernatural animals and then by being able to see his aura form. The ability to see supernatural beings is attributed to her pink eyes, a birth defect she was continually harassed for while growing up.
Note: The IC CWL needs to be renamed. The IC Shop CWL and the co-owner CWL are not the same person. In the first incarnation of the shop, with a lot less plot - they were. But since then their personalities and looks have diverged greatly.
