You guys notice that in most of the SW games and movies that all lightsabers with the exclusion of Mace Windu's are Red (for sith) and Blue or Green for Jedi?

I find it interesting because most people think that those are the only colors a lightsaber can be. I know most of you know otherwise, but wouldn't you think with all the jedi that were shown in Eps 1, 2, and 3 that the movie makers would make different colored sabers? I mean at least establish that a lightsaber hilt can be made from pretty much anything that can hold the parts and the color of the blade is a direct result of the gem used to focus it?

I believe Callista's was Goldenrod, Mara Jade's is Purple, Jacen Solo's is Turquoise, Lowbacca's is Gray and Mace Windu's was lavender or violet/purple. From here we can see a diversity amongst jedi and their personal lightsabers.

any thoughts or opinions?

I believe that Plo Koon's lightsaber was yellow, that's what my friend said though.

Really? Wasn't he the one killed by anakin or the emperor? He came with Mace?

The reason that most of the lightsabers seen in the movies are green and blue is because those were the most abundant crystals available at the time. Most of the other resources for saber crytals had been destoryed or used at the time, and the blue and green were the only ones readily available.

Siths are red, of course, because the crystal they use isn't natural. A Sith creates their red crystal through the Force and channels dark energy into the item. It's synthesized, instead of occuring naturally.

Actually Plo Koon's was Blue, but no, he didn't come with Mace. Plo Koon was shot down in his purple Jedi Starfighter, like the Episode 2, by his clone wingmen in their ARC-170 fighters.

Oh...

Hmm...didn't know the reasons why. Most of the Jedi in the EU have their own colors of Lightsabers. Plus from what i read in the Young Jedi Knight series, the gem can be pretty much anything that can focus the energy.

Interesting that the Sith manfacture their own gems. So i would imagine that one could manufacture any color of gem if so desired.

Yep, the green jewel used for Luke's saber which he used to fight vader was manufactered, but I heard that not long after that he found Qui-Gon's old saber in Ob-Wan's house, and took the crystal out of that, but yes, any crystal can be manufactured.

I remember in Young Jedi Knights that Lowbacca, Jacen, Jaina, and (dunno the last one) went and searched for their gems.

I guess it makes sense that Luke's was manufactured. In Shadows of the Empire he kind of just got one. He didn't go looking for one or anything.

When Dash Rendar found him at Ben's place Luke was synthisizing his crystal in the oven, and the other one is Tenel Ka. Jacen's future girlfriend and lover.

Oh, I thought Luke was heating it so that it would be soft enough to cut so that the facets would form the blade.

Any cyrstal, facets or not will work, but nope in the book, and the book on tape it says Luke was in the hut synthesizing the crystal.

Spoilers Ahead for Young Jedi Knights.

Lowbacca, Jacen, and Tenel Ka did indeed go looking for gems. I forget where Jacen got his, but Lowbacca took a projector crystal from one of the Rebel Systems, and Tenel Ka found her first one in a volcano. It was impure, and lead to the loss of her arm. Later, she smashed an obscenely valuable Hapan relic and used one of the Rainbow Gems of Gallinore for her weapon.

It's interesting to note that she used a Rancor Tooth for the hilt. The outer shell of the saber can be anything, though some materials are more suitable than others. (Bone vs. Sponge; which would you pick?)

Jaina made hers in an oven, with both her technological expertise and the Force.

My own character formed his two crystals from the Force alone, compressing the atoms in certain ways until he got what he wanted. ^^ Took a long time. Lightsabers are important, after all.

They work by emitting a beam of energy from the power cell, then looping it backwards so it doesn't stretch out into infinity. This is why Lightsabers almost never need their power supplies replaced; their power cells are recharged when the blade isn't touching anything. They only lose power when cutting.

Random Fact: Sith lightsabers can overload Jedi Lightsabers; the red-bladed ones are stronger. If continual pressure is applied... boom. Jed just lost a hand. Or foot. Or tentacle. Or whatever appendage was being used. xd

If you play Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, it will.

I did... sad But I kept winning by so much that nobody wanted to play anymore. >.< Kind of sad that I had memorized so much, really.

That's what happened to me. After a while I stopped, though. It was good for everyone's health, methinks. redface
