There was nothing like a good cup of coffee in the morning to start the day off with. Of course Vanquish's cup of coffee was flavoured with blood to suit his vampiric tastebuds. The cup was cradled in-between his paper white hands. He was fond of the cafe. It had a peaceful vibe to it. It was the perfect place to chill out before the lessons began.

His eyes watched over a young child with great affection. His son sat opposite him with a blueberry muffin upon a plate. His young son was called Enki. He had won custody of the boy from his ex-wife. The reason they divorced was due to Vanquish's disgusting vampiric habits. She was an angel and could not cope with his blood drinking ways.

Young Enki ate quickly and eagerly until most of the muffin had been devoured. Vanquish found the squirrelish maner in which the boy ate adorable. A hand reached out and stroked the boy's flurry blonde hair. Enki looked back at him with those glassy wide eyes and gave him a breadcrumb covered smile. With a napkin Vanquish mopped up the crumby mouth.

Beig a single father was a hard job. He had to do all the housework, shopping, work at the academy and care for the boy. Part of him wanted to find someone to adore who would want to care for Enki, and another side of him wanted to protect his child from the poison of any outside influence.

Vanquish polished off the last off his cup of coffee. The cup was stained with bloody froth. It was like red clouds had formed in the cup. He ran a finger through the bubble and sucked upon it for a moment. The p,easures of a lazy early morning had now ended. It was time to move to areas of toil and work. He had students files to flick through. There were field trips to organise for the students. No rest for the wicked!

Enki had finished the main body of the muffin minutes earlier. With his tongue he mopped up the remaining crumbs. A few had stuck to the tip of his nose. With a tissue VAnquish cleaned him up. This made the small child scrunch up his face. He obviously was not fond of having hisnose touched.

The plates and cups were placed back upon the serving tray with a clatter and ching as their surfaces connected.

"Come Enki, let us head to my office. I am certain we both have very active days ahead of us." With the softest voice he sopke as a hand was extended to his son. Enki clung to the hand like it was a rope stopping him from falling down the abyss.

Touching his father's skin always made Enki shiver. The man was icy cold. His skin so clammy and hard. The flesh was not supple and soft olike most humans. Vanquish was as stiff and immutable as a corpse. Enki in comparison had warm blood rushing through his veins; the warm blood of his mother. This was heartbreaking for poor Vanquish. It was difficult to embrace his boy for soo long without being afriad of giving him a chill. The life of a vampire was bitter and cruel.

Enki waved to the staff in the cafe and the pots overflowing with flowers and greenery before they departed. Vanquish just held the boy's hand ever so carefully. If he squeezed too hard then Enki's hand might get frostbite.

Mariah walked into the cafe with her nose buried in the map she had. She nearly bumped into a stone pillar but stopped short when her foot hit it. She looked around her cheeks growing warm at her own stupidity as she looked around the place, yes this was it. It had been a little confusing, navigating around the campus. Once she had arrived here from the island she had to look at the map for at least ten minutes until she decided on a way to go.

She smiled and she couldn't hold back the little giggle that escaped her when she smelled the coffee wafting throughout the place. With a little bounce in her step she made her way to the counter ordering her drink. After ordering and receiving her drink she made her way to a small table and pulled out the map and her schedule.

She would have to figure this out soon, before classes started, or she may never make it to class. She frowned thoughtfully staring at the map and looking back to her schedule. With a sigh she leaned back and looked up, her eyes roaming the room. It was quite lovely, she had to admit, and it brought a calming atmosphere, making her smile. She took a sip of her drink and glanced back down to the table. She could get used to this place.

----------------------------------------->Continued from Dorm 6

Scarlet walked a short ways until coming upon the café. It was a nice area, a nice building. A sweet smile upon her face she then walked over to an empty table and sat down. Her hands lay folded on the table as she waited for someone to come over to her. Within a few moments a young woman came over.

“Can I get you anything?” The young woman asked kindly. Scarlet nodded and spoke in her usual soft, warm tone.

“A coffee please.” The young woman nodded and walked off. Scarlet bent her head back a bit as she let out a sigh. There what small bags under her eyes do to lack of sleep. Rubbing them as she let out a yawn she then sat up right. Her back arched and her hands folded ever so perfect in her lap as she waited for her drink.

When the woman came back with it she gave a smile and thanked her. Adding in three creams and then four sugars she sipped at her coffee and quietly thought to herself.

The café would be the perfect place to recline. Those chairs weaved like wicker baskets were absolutely charming. The tables made with frosted glass were very ornate. A tiny fountain trickled in the centre. In many oriental philosophies water was believed to have a calming and purifying effect. Malachite could understand their theories. The most impressive thing was the greenery. This made the air clean and healthy, and gave the place a fresh perfume.

Just as he entered the café he passed Vanquish and his son Enki. He had a lot in common with Vanquish. They were both members of the undead. However they never really socialised with each other. Vanquish seemed to be busy with his son. Malachite glanced down at the tiny boy clung to his father’s side. What a precious little thing! The boy reminded him of a fine china doll; one touch and the boy would shatter. Enki was so ethereal with his pearl lustre skin, creamy white skin and adorable angel wings. Malachite wanted to pick him up and place him atop a Christmas tree. Pity the child was shy though. The boy should be plying and enjoying his youth/

Malachite removed his gaze from Enki and focussed his eyes back on Vanquish. The vampire was certainly a handsome fellow with his flawless complexion and silken locks. The vampire reminded him of a exiled king with the strong facial features and the jacket which draped like a white cloak down his back. His eyes were stunning though. They were like staring into the deepest depths of the ocean.

Out of pure politeness Malachite greeted him. “Good morning Mr Mytar. May I ask how you both are this fine day?”

Whilst he was conversing with Vanquish his eyes turned their attention to the less familiar figures in the café. Firstly his eyes rested upon Scarlet in a passive manner. She had a bizarre and imperceptible beauty about her. Her eyes were marbles which stretched her sockets unnaturally wide. They were very childlike. Then the hair was the tip of a match; resplendent with the bouquet of exotic reds.

Finally his eyes danced to the hazel haired figure of Mariah. She was more pretty and quaint then stunningly beautiful. Her hand was sweetly shaped as a heart. Her nose was as cute as a button. Her eyes were the rarest of emeralds and her figure was dainty.

Vanquish stopped, turned and answered the undertaker figure of Malachite. He bowed out of respect for the teacher. Vanquish knew that he was a powerful and knowledgeable man. “I and my boy are doing well, thank you for asking. I have just finished a drink but I would not mind another one. Would you like to join me?”

Vanquish scooped Enkoi up off the floor and into his arms. A gentle kiss pressed to his cheek. Enki shyly hid his head against his fathers’ chest. Vanquish shushed him gently as he stroked his hair.

“Don’t be shy my boy. Malachite means us no harm. He is a friend.” He whispered softly in the boy’s ear. “Stop hiding that little face. You can’t play in the fountain if you hide your face, can you?” Vanquish tickled Enki’s ribs which made the boy yelped and giggle feverishly. His pale cheeks turned a rosy colour.

“That is better!” Vanquish smiled at his son

Malachite felt envious of the compassion and love which flowed from father to son. Vanquish was so tender with Enki. It really was a pleasure to watch. Vanquish seemed to be able to soothe every fear with a reassuring comment. Malachite was certain that he had a kiss for every tear the boy cried as well. He could not help but admire the vampire’s paternal instincts. Enki’s giggle was so endearing, and those rosy cheeks. Malachite could not help but chuckle. Yet he could see the serious side to the pair of them. He could imagine how hard it was to be a single parents and how painful it was to not have a motherly embrace. It was amazing that they coped so remarkably well.

“I would love to join you for a drink Vanquish. Why don’t you go and find a nice seat near the fountain whilst I go and fetch the drinks. I will get us a carafe of blood orange juice to share.” Blood orange juive was basically orange juice spiced up with a drizzle of blood.

He departed towards the counter where the young lady waited to serve him. He find her lacy uniform rather quaint. It was a cross between a wedding dress and a spider’s web. The lace details were as elegant as a posh doyley. The name badge was in the shape of a cupcake.

“Good morning, could I have a jug of blood orange juice with two glasses please and a little strawberry milkshakes with those fun straws.” He asked in the politest voice he could muster. He believed in always giving the impression of a courtly gentleman. Rudeness was just intolerable.

The young girl poured the orange juice from a special machine before going to a fridge and tipping a few droplets of blood in it. The milkshake was made from fresh ingredients and blended by a piece of kitchen equipment. The glass cups and fluids were placed upon a serving tray.

“That will be £5.00 please.” The lady spoke in a tinny, overly chirpy voice. It was a flaked voice used to deal with customers.

Malachite placed the money into her slender fingers before lifting the tray and heading over to Vanquish and Enki.

Vanquish went and found a nice place by the fountain. Enki's socks and shoes were removed as he was placed on the dege of the fountain. Enki splashed his feet in the water as he tried to touch the frothy bubble which formed upon the surface.

It was difficult for Vanquish to conseal his bloodlust and urges. The smell of the cattle's blood just made him more hungry. He yearned to bite the supple flesh of a living being and enjoy the warm blood which rushed through their vains. His fangs were gritted together to stop them from bearing. However the present of the two ladies and their dove-like necks just made it even more difficult to control. He did not want to show this evil and wreckless side to his precious son. He did not want to scare him. A vampire in a state of bloodlust was a devilish sight to behold. Vanquish wanted to be the protector of his little angel.

Mariah was jarred from her thoughts when she heard the gentle laughter of a child. She looked up slowly to see two men speaking, one of them holding a young boy in his arms. She couldn't hide the smile that graced her lips as she watched the little boy giggle and laugh. She watched as the other man left the two and the boy, and apparently his father walked to the fountain.

The small boy reminded her of her little brother. She and her young brother, Jacob, who was only 10, had always been close, and that was the main reason she regretted leaving her home. The last memory she had of her brother pained her, she remembered his stricken expression.

"You're leaving? For how long?" Jacob sat on the edge of Mariahs bed, watching her as she packed her things. He stared down at his legs that suspended above the ground swinging lighty.

Mariah turned to see his sad face and he refused to look at her. "If I could take you with me you know I would." She said bending down next to him to look him in the face. He still wouldn't meet her gaze and she pulled out a old scrapbook. "I want you to take this." She said laying it in his lap and grabbing his chin to face his gaze towards her. "I want you to fill this up with everything you do while I'm gone okay? And I have my own for when I go to school, and when I come back to visit I want you to tell me all about the pictures you take alright?" She said opening it. Some of the pages were already filled with pictures from Mariahs childhood until present. She opened it to the empty page and placed it in his hands. "This is your now alright?" She pulled him into an embrace while he wrapped his arms around her neck.

"You promise you'll come back?" He asked his voice muffled by her shoulder.

She laughed and ruffled his hair, stepping back to smile at him. "Of course, even Mom and Dad couldn't keep me away forever." She said winking at him.

She blinked away the memory and smiled at the little boy once more. She looked between the two men, the one with the boy looked fairly older than her while the other looked a little closer to her age. She shook her head.
'I'm staring, that's rude.' She chided herself but couldn't suppress the giggle that escaped her as she tried her hardest to keep her gaze on the paper in front of her.

Scarlet sipped at her coffee until there was nothing left of it. Though it was empty she held in in her delicate hands still. Why was uncertain, she just did. Staying there motionless a few moment a sigh then left her lips. Her movements where hesitant and almost mechanic like as she placed the cup down. For her to move in such an odd manor was rather peculiar as her movements where usually fluent and graceful, almost always acting like the perfect young lady with her manors and grace. As her emerald eyes slowly closed she took in a deep breath. As she slowly exhaled she opened them. Glancing around a moment she found nothing too, too interesting. It was quiet and not much was going on. Pulling her hair into her tiny fists she stroked it, pulling at it over and over, almost like a nervous habit. Though it was not one of her own, but a habit non-the-less. Though this habit was derived from the fact that she needed something to do, not being able to sit still for very long without getting antsy.

She had not noticed she was doing this, though when she did she immediately stopped. Her hair now all on the right side, her nearly bare neck showed. It was surrounded by a few necklaces that decorated both her neck and chest rather nicely.

Enki could feel someones eyes observing him. He tilted his head in a puzzled manner as he tried to find out who it was. It was the girl with hte green eyes. Enki wondered if she was old, like his father. When you are Enki's age anyone over hte age of 14 are considered to be old. He thought Malachite was as old as a dinosaur.

He placed his thumb in his mouth as tiny fangs rested upon the surface of the skin. His cheeks flashed red as he waved at that strange green eyes lady. For no apparent reason he slipped off the edge of the fountain and hide the opposite side from the green eyed lady. Every couple of seconds he would peak out to see what she was doing.

Vanquish kept a close eye on his boy. He seemed to be playing somekind of little game with one of the student. He would have to stop that thumb sucking habit though. It could not be healthy for the boy.

Mariah giggled as she watched the little boys antics. Everytime he would peak over to her she would wave lightly and smile. She turned to find a waitress.

"Excuse me, Miss, could you bring me a muffin and a chocolate chip cookie?" Mariah said nodding at the woman.

"Yes, I'll bring that right out." The waitress said shuffling away as she wrote down the order on a small paper.

Mariah turned to watch the little boy once more. She mouthed "Hi." When he peaked out again. She made funny faces at him after a little while, laughing while the woman set the muffin and cookie in front of her. Mariah gave her the money and slowly stood walking over to the little boy.

"If that man over there lets you, and you can tell me your name, you can have one of these." She said holding out the cookie in one hand and the muffin in the other. "Is that your daddy?" She asked bending down on one knee so she could be at the small boys eye level.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 17, 2006 3:10 am

Enki's eyes lit up when he saw the cookie. All that shyness gone due to the tasty treat. However the lessons of his father remained in the front of his mind.

"My daddy said that I should be careful around strangers, even if they are nice strangers." He ran over to his father and tugged gentle upon his jacket. "Lady has a cookie and wants me to have cookie, but she stranger and I do not know if I bad if I take cookie."

Vanquish smiled down at his son as he stroked the boys' hair. He was so proud that the boy had learnt the lesson he had been taught.

"You may have the cookie which the young lady has offered you. Just remember to say your thank yous, ok?" He gave the boy a napkin to hold the cookie in. "Oh and why don't you invite the lady over? I am sure that she would like the company."

Enki took the napkin and ran back over to Mariah. He held out the napkin towards her.

"Enki. My daddy would like you to sit at table." Before she could give him the cookie he ran over to the table and struggled to pull out a chair for her to sit uopn. Enki had seen his father pull out chairs for ladies many times.

Malachite paced over slowly to the table with his tray full of refreshments. The glasses clinked together as they were placed upon the surface. As he took his cosy seat his elongated finger embraced the jug handle and the juice was poured. The milkshake was slid over to the setting with the lowest seat. The whole atmosphere was incredibly relaxed. The water was the soothing background music and the plants the pleasant scenery.

Before he could speak to Vanquish little Enki came rushing other with those enthusiastic and beautiful eyes. Malachite could see tiny stars shining within them. The boy mentioned something about being offered a cookie by a lady. He glanced over to observe who Enki’s new friend was. It was the pretty hazel-haired girl with the ballerina figure.

Malachite was surprised when Vanquish invited the girl over. He always thought that Vanquish was a private individual who was determined to protect his son from any outside influence. Maybe the serenity of the place had affected him.

That little child had the amazing ability to make him smile. He was such a cute and friendly boy. He watched as the boy ran back over to the girl. Malachite adored the way he ran. It was so ungainly, like a leggy fawn. The tiny soul looked like he was going to topple at any moment. The hyperactivity of youth brought the boy back to the table. He was surprised when the chair was pulled out. What a sweet little gentlemen. Malachite knew that boy was going to be a heartbreaker when he grew up. It was refreshing to see a young child so polite and respectful of their elders.
