Malachite had smelt death in the air for the past few hours; a cloying cold mustiness that was stronger than the scent of pine trees and dampness. It was a divine perfume, a ravishing aroma. The silence too, was noticeable. The absence of birdsong and the soughing of the breeze seemed to have lapsed into a cam where not even a leaf rustled. As though the world held its breath and waited.

The ethereal man in the dark, dressed as a priest draped with golden crosses and fine robes, shrugged off any uneasiness he felt with deliberate effect. To display any sign of weakness was an invitation for the reaper for come knocking. He paused on the long steep forest path to wipe the rain from his high brow and aquiline features. A dry tongue flicked lips shaped as a frown, and his sunken eyes stared head into the shadows of a gathering dust.

Tall and lithe, it was difficult to determine the age of Malachite. His eyes stony from the torment of immortality and yet necromancers were slow to age. The graveyard was the kingdom of the dead. They knew the incomprehensible maze of distorted barks, and marble tombstone like the back of their hands.

He endeavoured to travel to the secluded graveyard in order to reflect and meditate. Some people found the graveyard a morbid or disturbing place. Malachite on the other hand found it to be tranquil. It was the place of everlasting rest. It was also the place where his students were trained in the death arts. With elongated fingertips he caressed the tombstones like they were the flesh of a lover. Malachite would stroll through the gravechite with a sentimental heart for hours. It was home to him.

Alas it was time to leave the sanctity and tranquillity of the graveyard. The souls sprawl within their graves as the shadows duvet their final resting place. The mist was the wedding veil which shrouded the face of death. The trees were the living cenotaph serves as a memorial to the broken hearts in the endless battle between life and death. The fireflies dulled as they hid within the foilage; the firefly so beautiful, why do they have to die so young?

With lament and a deep sigh he departed the civilisation of the breathless. It was time to re-enter the world of the warm blooded. Normal society, the place he felt truly aberrant. He feared that the lack of a motionless heart would make him seem devoid of love and affection. His body would make others shivers if they touched him. It was a pitiful way to feel. He loathed wallowing in self-pity.

The building of the academy was a colossus upon the horizon. A temple of education made out of golden blocks. It shone with the radiance of a jewel. It was set within the most exquisite scenery. The gently lapping water with the variant blue of sapphires and the mountain with brassy stones added to the majestic appeal. One felt like an emperor as they approached the summoning door. It summoned you with the same magnetism of a treasure chest. What fine treasures lay within the walls?

……Her pace was rather slow as she walked towards the graveyard. Graveyard…It seemed to be such a creepy sounding place, giving the final resting place of so many people a place that seemed to terrifying to go to at times. Luckily it had a few other names including a cemetery and a burial ground…though burial ground seemed a tad eerie as well. Those where some thoughts that ran through Scarlet’s head as she made her way there, slowly the towering coliseum looking building in what seemed to be the center of the grounds that contained the graveyard. There where many other smaller stoned and statues that had yet to catch her eye as they where glued to the glorious looking stone tower. In almost a zombie like walk she headed directly for the very thing she had her eyes upon.

As she now stood before it she stared up in awe for a moment or two before gently running her delicate hands down it’s stone columns. A small smile came across her pallor porcelain face as she walked around to what had become a ruble staircase from the slowly falling structure. It was obviously very old, but in her eyes, it only added to it’s beauty. Standing upon it she looked out over the entire graveyard. The silence, and crisp air soothed her. It was a nice thing, to be alone in the silence. Her smile only grew a bit as she looked out over the grounds it covered.

The old ruin called you towards it with a seductive voice. The steps shrouded with such mystery and depth. They invited you to ascend them. The stonework had a million eyes. The events they had witness were numerous; a mixture of secret gatherings, mourning and joy. The bloody tower had been fed with centuries of tears and victims. The windows offered a view into another world; a world where all is death.

Upon the steps was an ethereal silhouette of a womanly figure. Her body was shaped as the most delicate of hourglass. Her breasts were as plump as ripened fruit. Her white hair flowed down her back like a wedding veil. The face was full of petit features such as a button nose, lips thin and deteriorating. Two black holes were in the place of shining eyes. The dress was matrimonial in ivory and ball gown style. The only colour upon her form was a red stain. The stain caressed her bosoms and trickled towards her womb. Within a quivering hand she clutched a bloody kitchen knife.

Malachite could see her graceful figure upon the old ruin. It was such a beautiful scene. This was the lost soul he was meant to bring peace.

Before he could perform the necromancy and reasoning he noticed a feminine figure embracing a column. He could not make out much of her appearance. The only thing he could observe was the flesh made of pure pearly china. He called to her in a mere whisper. The breeze lovingly carried it to her ear.

“Slowly move away from the ruin.”

Malachite stood in-between two trees which had bent backwards into an arch.

Scarlet turned her head as she heard a faint whisper in her ear. Jerking her head around to see from what the whispered voice had came she saw a man, or what seemed to be a manly figure in the distance. Looking at him a moment, the words he had whispered not quit processing into her mind, she store at him in a slight bit of confusion a moment. From the corner of her eye she saw something quit a bit brighter than the rest of the dark figures. Slowly turning her head to see what it was she saw the young woman, her beauty and pure color, only tarnished by the small reddish color on her bosom, most likely blood. Scarlet store at her for a moment, unsure whether the other woman saw her or not, then the man’s words finally processed into her head.

‘….move away from the ruin…’ She could her be softly said in her mind. Her eyes widened as she then slowly climbed down from where she had gotten up to. The almost glowing figure of the woman almost forcing her eyes to look at her. Closing her eyes tightly she turned away and looked to the man, or what she had come to figure was a man in the figure’s manly build and deep voiced whisper she had heard in her ears.

Now turned away from the figure she almost scurried over toward the direction of the man, though leaving a small distance between them.
