A good quality in a psychologist is empathy.

That really depends on what kind of psychologist you are. Do you mean a clinical psychologist? Neuroscientist? Behavioral profiler? Psychology has lots of applications and each one is suited for certain skills and talents.

I think Metal was referring to a Clinical Psychologist.
Rather then personality traits, I'm gonna throw out a real truth about being a psychologist. To do so in a clinical capacity, realize the competitive nature of the programs available. It is difficult to get into a postgraduate program in the field, due mostly to it's popularity. To get into a decent program you really need a 3.5-4.0 gpa, and I don't feel that that is an exaggeration.

Considering that you were talking about a clinical psychologist, I think you have to be a good listener (which means you actually try to understand what your client is saying), and you have to be creative.

I agree with Calunio... But also I think that most of all... To love what you're doing so you can give more than a 100% to attend a pacient...

I'm not considering doing grad work in psych at this time, but if I did, it wouldn't be on the clinical side. It'd probably be social psych.

I agree with all the above mentioned...but I also believe that one needs confidence in themselves and others. Above all, a psychologist needs to realize they are not invincible and that they always can be more...
