PHYSICAL
Name- Erik David Attaway
Age- 14
Ethnicity- Caucasian
Occupation- High School Student
Hometown- New Lenox, Illinois
Original Species- Human (Homo sapiens sapiens)
Desired Species Result- Falkland Islands Fox (Dusicyon australis)
Theme Song- The Diary of Jane - Breaking Benjamin
Appearance- Standing at about 5'6", Erik has a typical lanky, geeky build. His thick red hair is usually untouched by combs and gel, so he usually looks like he just got out of bed, but for special occasions, he wets it down and combs it. Because he spends a lot of time in his room, his skin is a little on the pale side, the light sprinkle of freckles on his nose and cheeks show that he goes outside from time to time. His eyes are deep sky blue, the same as when he was born. Clothing-wise, Erik doesn't really give much into what he wears. Usually, he's happy just throwing on a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and some tennis shoes. Erik is rarely seen without a book in his hand.
Items-
*CD player + with CD's, ranging from Toby Keith to Breaking Benjamin
*Many books, mostly about animals
*Clothing
*Picture of him and his grandmother

MENTAL/EMOTIONAL
Personality- At first glance, Erik appears very stoic, showing very little emotion, but once he comes out of his shell, he's fun to be around and has a great sense of humor, in fact, he's always wanted to do stand-up comedy. Some events in his childhood have caused him to develop a few condtions: escapism, depression, etc. These have isolated him from other people, usually he's to shy or nervous to talk to most people, even his parents. Obviously, he has few friends because of his shyness, and he keeps those friends close. For most of his life, Erik's always been the black sheep, not really fitting in anywhere, so he's always wanted to fit in. Although normally easygoing, Erik can occasionally have a nasty temper. A big science geek, Erik approaches most everything in a scientific manner, believing that everything has reasonable explanation, from dragons and unicorns to God and the Devil. Since early childhood, Erik's had a mild case of ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), meaning that he can be forgetful, moody, and occasionally hyper, so he has to take drugs on a daily basis, something he's not exactly happy with. Another mental disorder he has to deal with is Asperger Syndrome (AS), which is most likely the root of his social problems. It constantly shows up in his behavior: he can get a little obsessive with certain things, he's terrified of looking people in the eyes, etc. Another important fact to note about Erik is the extreme changes in mood he can have: one minute, he as calm and focused as a college professor, and the next minute, he could be running around and acting like a seven-year old.

1. Strengths- Intelligent, loyal, trustworthy, loving, gentle, honest, hardworking, funny
2. Flaws- Is terrified of looking people in the eyes, can be obssessive, can be very emotional and have drastic mood swings, can have a hard time understanding intended meanings, gets very, very around girls
Interest/Hobbies- Writing, surfing the web, reading, backpacking, hiking, swimming, animals, dinosaurs, paintball
Likes- Books, animals, nature, quiet, being accepted by others, movies (especially Godzilla films), ATVing, country music, video games, watching TV, food, MST3K
Dislikes- Being made fun of, being left out, eating vegetables (broccoli, it burns!!!! gonk ), being forced to do something, having to take drugs, being rushed, being talked down to, being treated like a kid, school, crowds, ignorant people
History- Erik was born on May 19, 1992, at Silver Cross Hospital. For the first two years of his life, he lived in a small house not too far away from the hospital. At age 3, his family moved to nearby New Lenox, a cozy little town south of Chicago.

Erik's childhood was like anyone else's, but problems started as he started 8th grade. Erik found it hard to function socially, he would blackout when he had to talk in front of the class, he would be afraid of talking to somebody or looking them in the eyes. His relationship with his father was starting to become shaky. While Erik and his dad always had a stable and happy father-son relation, they were starting to have arguments more and more, and occasionally getting to a point where his father hit him with a belt. Another family issue was his younger brothers constantly teasing him and calling him names. While normally, a regular person would just ignore them, Erik eventually gave in to all this stress. As a result, by the time he was starting his second semester in 8th grade, he was an emotional wreck. Depressed and always quiet, Erik's grades immediately started to slip, something highly unusual for such a smart kid. His teachers would constantly ask him about why his grades were so low. Erik always replied with "I don't want to talk about it...".

The only place Erik could find refuge from his problems was the internet. There, he actually had friends who understood him, and while his mother and grandmother were happy he had friends on the computer, his father and brothers thought of him as weak nerd. Entering high school only made things even harder for Erik, more school and less time to do it in made it seem like everything was closing in on him. Sooner or later the stress would become too much for Erik and he would crack. Eventually, he would....

The final straw for Erik came in April 2006, when his grandmother tripped and fell down the basement stairs, causing her severe brain damage. After a night of extensive brain surgery, she was in a coma until May 1st, when she passed away. That night, something inside of Erik snapped. He simply packed up his things in the middle of the night, stole his mother and father's money and credit cards, boarded a train, and simply left, thinking that he was leaving his problems behind.

Family-
*David Attaway (Father)
*Shalimar Attaway (Mother)
*Christopher Attaway (Brother)
*Michael Attaway (Brother)
*Charlene Attaway (Grandmother)
*Karen Pavnica (Grandmother) Deceased

Arrival- Nearly a week after leaving, Erik reached the end of the road, Cape Fear, North Carolina. Deciding to stay here for a little while, he checked into the Hallowed Fountain Vacation Resort, trying to escape his problems for just a little bit longer. Little did he know that in Cape Fear, his problems were only beginning...

Friends & Acquaintances

Christopher Dunche (Canis lupus nubilus)
When we first crossed paths, I was barely conscious, but we later got to talk and got to know each other. He has a loving heart that is in-tune with nature. He's first person in a long time that I feel I can look up to.

Glaucus Masculli (Pterois volitans)
I was a little taken surprise by his hair color when we first met, but he seems like a nice guy. His interest in merfolk may seem a bit odd, but we all have our passions.

Relana Sahira (Paracanthurus hepatus)
At first, she seemed to be a bit of an airhead, but I now know that she is one of kindest people you'd ever meet.

Minna Knight (Canis lupus familiaris)
I'm not completely sure what to think of her, since I was in a bit of a predicament during the only time we had alone, so I hope to talk with her and get to know her.

Characteristics
The Falkland Islands Wolf is larger than any others of the South American canids. It stood up about 60 cm (24 inches) high at the shoulders, and had a brownish-gray fur with black ears and a paler under body. This species shows also a distinct white tail-tip. This is sometimes regarded, as a sign of domestication, and some skull characters too, seems to point in this direction. It was said that this species did bark just like a domestic dog.

Falkland Islands wolves on West Falkland were smaller, redder and darker, with finer fur. In 1844 Bartholomew Sulivan, second lieutenant on Beagle voyage, wrote to Darwin: “It is quite incorrect what we were told respecting the difference in the Foxes of the two Islands. They are the same both in size and color. We have never been able to detect any difference.” Oldfield Thomas measured skulls of the East and West Falkland animals and reached opposite conclusion though said “no certainty is possible”, called them Dusicyon darwini of East Falkland and Dusicyon australis of West Falkland. Nowadays these two different Falkland Inlands wolves are sometimes seen as subspecies. Dusicyon australis australis (Kerr, 1792), and Dusicyon australis darwinii (Thomas, 1914).

Range & Habitat
This species lived on the barren Falkland Islands, nearly 500 km from the South American mainland. It was the only land mammal of these islands. Sometimes two subspecies are named: Dusicyon australis australis (Kerr, 1792), and Dusicyon australis darwinii (Thomas, 1914). D. a. australis lived on West Falkland, and D. a. darwini lived on East Falkland.

Food
This species most likely survived on a diet of seabirds, seal pups, and probably even on vegetation. It was the only predatory mammal on the Falklands Islands.

Reproduction
Nothing is known about the Falkland Islands Wolf’s reproductive or social behavior.

History & Population
It seems impossible that any dog species could have reached these remote islands on its own and survived the harsh conditions of the Ice Ages, whereas its nearest relative on the mainland would have become extinct. Therefore, it has been suggested that the Falkland Islands Wolf is a result of early domestication, either of a South American species that became extinct, or as the product of an early hybridization between a form of domestic dog and an as yet unknown South American canid. Prehistoric man brought the dogs to the Falkland Islands during the early Holocene. Here these dogs stayed behind after the first inhabitants of the islands either died out or departed. They sheltered in burrows that they dug themselves.

Captain Strong and the crew of the Welfare first discovered the Falkland Islands Wolf in 1692. He captured one and kept it for several months as the ship's dog until the animal, started by firing of the ship's guns, jumped overboard. In 1765 Commodore Byron claimed the Falkland Islands for Great Britain. His account shows that in those days the Falkland Islands Wolf was rather numerous. Byron was the first to bring a skin of this species to Europe. Kerr described the Falkland Islands Wolf officially in 1792.

Despite heavy persecution by Argentinean settlers in the first decades of the 19th century, the Falkland Islands Wolf was still common in 1833, when Charles Darwin visited the islands during his voyage aboard his ship the Beagle. Darwin commented on the tameness of the animals and feared that this might eventually lead to their extinction. He was right! Shortly after the Falkland Islands Wolf was discovered by fur traders from the United States. Trappers holding a piece of meat in one hand and a knife in the other lured the extremely tame animals. By 1840 the species was already extinct in East Falkland.

The final blow came when Scottish settlers started sheep farming on the islands. As they saw it, the Falkland Islands Wolf was becoming a horrifying predator capable of destroying their herds. They set fire to the brushwood, laid poisoned baits and even went so far as to accuse the animal of being a vampire in order to justify its eradication. Once again, a predator paid a high price for man's stupidity. The last Falkland Islands Wolf has believed to be killed in 1876 at Shallow Bay, in the Hill Cove Canyon, West Falkland.

Extinction Causes
U.S. fur traders hunted the species, and sheep raising Scottish settlers poisoned the Falkland Islands Wolf as a pest species.

Conservation Attempts
A Falkland Islands Wolf lived in the London Zoo in the United Kingdom in 1868. In December 1870 the zoo got another "Antarctic Wolf", the surviving half of a pair sent by Mr. Byng, the acting colonial secretary of the Falklands. This animal live only a few years. No conservation measures were taken.

Museum Specimens
Only 11 museum specimens remain today in London (UK), Stockholm (Sweden), Brussels (Belgium), and Leiden (the Netherlands). The drawing above shows a stuffed specimen, which is one of the three specimens from the National Museum of Natural History in Leiden, the Netherlands.

Relatives
The Falkland Island Wolf is probably the most enigmatic member of the dog family. The Falkland Islands Wolf no doubt belongs with the other South American canids, but it nearest relative has not been identified with certainty and may be extinct.

In 1880, zoologist Thomas Huxley concluded from skull comparisons that it was related to coyote. Later studies indicated it was closer to a fox rather than a wolf. In 1914, Oldfield Thomas moved it into the genus Dusicyon, with the culpeo (Dusicyon culpaeus is nowadays seen as a synonym of Pseudalopex culpaeus) and South American foxes. Its exact taxonomy is still debated. DNA studies of remains are inconclusive.
