The first time I listened to their new album, I was dissapointed. After waiting so long, it just didn't seem to live up to all of the hype. Eight listens later though, I can't seem to turn it off. So all in all, I believe it's quite a good CD.
Better than Hot Fuss?
In some ways yes, in some ways no. It's hard to compare the two, because with Sam's Town, they took a different approach to the music.
So, I think it has a well deserved 8/10, if not a 9.
Spoonfeed:

What's your opinion about the new album? I gotta say, I really like it. I wasn't sure at first, but it's really growing on me. (I felt kind of the same way about "Indie Rock and Roll" at first, and now it's one of my favorite Killers songs.)
Favorite songs? I absolutely LOVE "This River Is Wild." I really relate to it. I also really like "Sam's Town" and "Why Do I Keep Counting?" (Mainly because Brandon saying "Help me get down, I can make it!" in that voice makes me giggle)
Is it better than Hot Fuss? At the moment, I'm not really sure. It's kind of unequal, because I've been listening to Hot Fuss for the past year or so, and I've only had my Sam's Town CD for a couple days. I'll probably favor one over the other later, but at the moment, I really don't know.
Did it live up to your expectation or surpass them? It definitely surpassed my expectations. I seem to remember about a year ago, Brandon said this CD was going to be "a b***h," but it doesn't come off that way at all to me. (But then again, they probably had written most of the songs on the CD a while after Brandon said that.)

I haven't listened to it all that much, but right now I prefer Hot Fuss. I like the vibe from it a lot more.
I guess I'd have to say my favourite song is... Well, I don't know what my favourite song is. I really like "Daddy's Eyes", which is a bonus song. But other than that, I can't really say.
I give it a 7.5/10. But that hopefully will change soon.

What's your opinion about the new album I think this one of the best albums to come out so far this year. It has a really awesome feeling to it and the lyrics really pull it all together. Vocals are amazing. It maybe took a day to grow on me. I really really like it! Favorite songs? Uncle Johnny is my favorite right now. I love the guitar in it and the "coolness" it has to it. I also like Bones and When You Were Young. Is it better than Hot Fuss? I do think this one is better then Hot Fuss. Hot Fuss is a really amazing cd but this has a little bit more to it. Did it live up to your expectation or surpass them? It surpassed it by a lot. I was thinking how can they get better then Hot Fuss? But it is and I'm loving every moment of it!!!

What's your opinion about the new album: One of the best albums I've heard in a long time
Favorite songs?: "Read My Mind"
Is it better than Hot Fuss?: Hard to say, I like them about the same.
Did it live up to your expectation or surpass them? I wasn't expecting it to be so good since usually follow-up albums never meet the quality

- What's your opinion about the new album? Sorta dissappointed too. After hearing "When You Were Young" on the radio so many times,I actually fell in luv with the song & was really excited about their new CD.Also, they showed them LEAKED on live performance of Sam's Town on MTV & from there, the songs sounded really good. But on the CD,I thought the songs were...ok.Guess they sounded better LIVE xd - Favorite songs? #5. For Reasons Unknown - Is it better than Hot Fuss? Not really.I found Hot Fusss more enjoyable - Did it live up to your expectation or surpass them? Alittle. There's some songs I like, some others not very catchy.

What's your opinion about the new album: From the first listen I found out this album was not going to be a grower. It was predictable a bit and it threw a few surprises as well. I have never cared for lyrics that much so I payed no mind to them and focused more on the instrumentation which was ok. This album does work well with the songs it had though, it's main strength. Overall: 7/10
Favorite songs?: Read My Mind
Is it better than Hot Fuss?: Hot Fuss tracklisting was horrible. The tracks did not flow well with each other and they were better off individually. And most of the tracks on Hot Fuss were not strong at all and being placed farthest away from the very strong tracks didn't help at all. Sam's Town is of course better than Hot Fuss.
Did it live up to your expectation or surpass them? Brandon's little "best album in 20 years" really rasied my expectations. When I was hearing it, the first though that came to me was......HELLO this thing isn't the greatest. Apparently Brandon has never heard of Sonic Youth. They have the best album in the past 20 years.

I received Sam's Town for my birthday, and had to listen to it right away. Personally, I thought that the rythms weren't as peppy and catchy, but the lyrics seemed to be more thought out. The album had moxy, it had--pardon my cliche--soul. I was happy that they kept the same sexy class to it all, and the bass was still relaxing, but the album didn't feel quite the same.
It's like listening to music grow up. I can't say that I like Sam's Town any more or less than Hot Fuss, but I can say that I wasn't disappointed. I wasn't surprised, either; I simply enjoyed the album, as it was meant to be, and like everyone else, I enjoyed "This River is Wild."
