Jeanne was halfway through her book when she heard the racket coming from another cabin. She sighed, letting her head rest on the book. She came out here to get AWAY from these people, not to meet more. Rising, she thought she should take care of this herself. She got up, following the music to the large cabin. She walked up and pounded on the door.

She nodded. "You can help me by turning your music down. There are some people that are trying to read, and can't concentrate with the music so loud." She said.

She shook his hand. "I'm Jeanne Rivers. Glaucus... I've heard that name somewhere before..." she thought. It was in one of her books... and it was with her now. But which one was it?

"Right now I'm reading a young adult fiction book called Star Split. It's about futuristic human cloning and how this one girl finds an illegal clone of herself. I just got it about a month ago."

She looked at the book. "I haven't read that one yet." It felt very odd for her to say something like that. Then, at the mentioning of mythology, she remembered the title of the book. "The Metamorphises! That's what it was!" If he was into mythology, he would love this one.

She was also amazed to see somebody so into reading. Most people she knew hated it with a passion, which is what kept her away from most high schoolers.

"Yes it has been." she smiled. "I'll bring the book tomorrow. 'Night!" with that final remark, she walked off.

Glaucus walked up to his front step and there on it was a book, called “The Metamorphoses”. The Book had interesting cover and the author’s name was simply Ovid. Glaucus saw a small sticky note on it with the words,

Not wanting to offend her, and he needed a new book to read he picked up the book. He unlocked his door and went in. “Oh that was the book she was talking about.”

Augusta, not his parents were waiting for him. Glaucus saw from her expression of horror he had not reapplied his bandage.

“WHAT IS THAT????” Augusta said pointing towards his neck,
“What is what?” Glaucus said feigning ignorance.
“Those cuts how did you get the- why are they weird?” Augusta asked in strong maternal voice.
“They are just cuts.”
“Then why are they perfectly parallel?” She said after an examination of his neck.
“Well, I uh….”
“Glaucus I’m worried what are they are you going to keep lying or tell em the truth?” She said very angrily.
“Fine, you win. Remember how I told you I was going to the river today? Well I did and I fell in.” Glaucus felt it better to leave out the whole role Relana ha din it. “When I came out there were this slits and they were ble*ding.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because, I never cut myself underwater. They just appeared.”
Augusta took a step back, “Well what are they then? They look like…”
“Gills. They have to be I have no other explanation.”
“They do look like them ... don’t they…”
“Look I know this is weird, but you have to trust me. I wouldn’t make this up.”
“I know you wouldn’t. But what about Mom and Dad? What are they going to say when they see you sprouting gills and god knows what else?”
“Well you are going to be a doctor, they would believe something you told them.”
“Okay, wear a bandage or something over it for now, until you are ready to tell them yourself.”
Glaucus gulped hard, “Okay, I’ll do it.”
Tears came to Augusta’s eyes as Glaucus reapplied the bandage, and she changed the subject. “So I see you’ve got a new book”
“No, a friend leant it to me. She said I would find it ‘interesting’”
“Is this the Relana you told me about last night?” She asked with typical older-sister noisiness.
“No. She’s a different friend. I …asked Relana to be my G*rlfriend. And I’m going to introduce you all to her tomorrow on the beach.”
“Really? Oh cool! That’s awesome Glac! At first I thought you were making her up.”
“Why would I do that?”
Augusta ed an Eyebrow“ It wouldn’t be the first time you lied.” She insinuated about his evasion earlier tonight.
“Okay, okay I get it. It’s not like this is the easiest thing to announce to everyone you know.”
“I’m sorry” She apologized. “I’m tired and I’m going to bed.”
“Good night”
“Good night.” And she ascended the staircase to her room.
Glaucus sat on the sofa, kicked off his shoes and began to read.
He almost ingested the stories contained in the book; He read about the first werewolf, Lycos, the hubristic weaver Archane, who became a spider (although he already knew her story) He read through story after story of transformations and lovers, until he got towards the end…
And found his name in the book. "Behold Glaucus"…
“What?”, was all he could say. Realizing that time had gone much faster then he expected, He put his finger on the page and closed the book. He quietly walked to Chris’s house, with the book in his hand.
