This is a light-hearted poem I made up. What do you think?

Forever Cross-Eyed
By Grita Slavitra Tajiki

My mother said if I crossed my eyes
It wouldn't undo 'till my spirit dies.
I should've known known she never lies,
But now it's just too late.

My mother cried and said her prayers
As I tripped, and fell down the stairs.
I cried as I bumped into tables and chairs,
Though I knew it was my fate

Now that I am fourty-three,
I think double vision ain't so bad for me.
I've got two houses when I can't see,
And my two wives each gave birth to twins.

On my block every other man
Has to share his house with another man.
I'm aware that that is quite a cram,
So I tell them to keep up their chins.

I'm used to walking through one of my wives,
And I know I can't grab both of my knives,
But it's really too bad I don't have two lives,
'Cause I ran into one of them solid cars.

At first I saw a bunch of stars,
And a couple nurses and a couple pars.,
But then, like I'd been to a couple of bars,
My vision blacked and so did the stars.

My funeral took place that night.
I lay in a casket, all closed up real tight.
The casket let in not a crack of light.
My wives, parents, and the pastors were the only ones there.

They talked and cried and they ate from a basket.
They decided to see me when my mother did ask it.
They all walked over and opened the casket.
What they saw sure did make them all stare.

My fathers were too appalled to talk.
My wives let out a squealing squawk.
The pastors' mouths fell open in shock.
But my mother smiled, and gazed at me with pride.

My figure wasn't one of grace.
My body was as white as the elbino race.
But my eyes were crossed upon my face,
So my mother knew my spirit hadn't died.

The story in the poem is very good, but I think it could be improved with more punctuation. Punctuation gives breaks to the poem which I believe would come in very handy, especially when going from stanza to stanza. Other than that, it was really good!

Sorry the poll's screwed up now. It didn't have the poll on it, so I put on a new one, and that obviously didn't work out to well. xp

That's really good. It reminds me of something Shell Silverstain (sp?) might write. Very good. I nearly laughed out loud. I'm not very good at funny poetry or poetry that tells a story. You've done both and it's good. I tip my hat to you! >tips hat<

Your spelling of it looks like it would be closer than mine. Funny poetry is the best and most interesting to read. I don't particulary like reading long poetry, it just gets boring, but when it's funny, it captivates me and can be as long as it wants.

Ha, yeah, I know what you mean. biggrin Funny poems can keep going until they stop being funny, and I'll never want them to stop earlier than that.
