PROLOGUE
Vargrim, a world of beauty, wonders and unimaginable dangers.
Throughout the ages, this land has flourished in many ways. Be it the simple village growing into a bustling town, or even an entire kingdom rising from the depths of the great Adel Sea. As in any world, things change; however in recent years, strange things began to plague this world. An unseen force began to move the rulers of each country as one would move pawns in a game of chess.
The kings, emperors, queens and empresses have changed.
The once peaceful ruling have become harsh and unforgiving. Corrupted by an unknown force, each one has become fueled by a single dark emotion. One could believe that is all they can express. But would the people of Vargrim stand for such behavior against each resident of this world?
The answer is a resounding no. Of course, there are the ones who are too far away or preoccupied to notice the change, and others still that are too wrapped up in politics and other things to care. However, some have taken notice and refuse to simply put up with the rulers' newfound tyrrany. Their answer to this threat: the Runners. A group of extraordinary people of many races have united under a common goal: to assassinate each of these rulers and bring peace back to Vargrim. The force that has descended upon the world will most likely stop at nothing to make sure that the rulers progress in their strange behavior and that these Runners are crushed like insects. The success of this group relies heavily on whether they can become a hidden army. But they must find people willing to bring change and overcome the hatred that has caused the racial wars that make up a large portion of the history of Vargrim.
At the time, the Runners are much too small a group to topple the harsh rulers's crowns; it must grow and strengthen. The small number of members have come to the country near the west coast of the Adel Sea, Yasuirando. A country that, in our terms, would seem much more middle eastern under the rule of an emperor. Would they possibly find recruits in this foreign land?
They say that sometimes, if one were to stand outside the Imperal Palace in the Capital, you could hear an insane laughter echo through those hollow halls. Crime has been on an uprise; murder and robbery have increased ten fold. It is as if the land and its pople are feeling the effects of their leader's madness.
So our story begins in the village of Kaito just along side the border to a neighbouring country. It is surrounded by tall mountains that give off a famous purple glow when the sun rises and sets. The village experiences very cold winters, but currently a lush spring has come, bringing with it the colorful beauty of the cherry blossom trees. Unlike others, this village seems untouched by the horrible insanities of the emperor. Recently it was heard that in one of the mountains a strange grumbling can be heard at midnight. It may be a lead for our runners to check this fabled mountain caverns as it may be a link to the strangeness plaguing the land.

RANNXThe world of Vargrim is rich with powerful magic. Some have a special gift of tapping into this force, from within themselves, others with the gift, places of power ect. But the magic of Vargrim is wild and unpredictable. It can overpower and destroy. So those who display the talent of magic posse rannxes (pro RAN-x). A rannx is a talisman of sorts that a magic-user uses to channel their power. In order for magic to be performed, a rannx must be used, otherwise the spell will backfire and kill the user. A rannx could be anything, a piece of jewelry, a pen, a shoe, a hair clip. A magic-user must have their rannx in their possession at all times, for it is part of them. If a rannx were separated from its owner, the magic-user's powers will overwhelm them and they will either die (But not instantly, they will have time to search for their rannx, but we don't suggest losing it.) or go insane. **NOTE** If you have a character that possesses any kind of magic, you must have a rannx. Simply state what your rannx is in your character's profile. The rannx is a new system we're trying out, so if you have any suggestions or questions post them in the ideas thread. ReViVeD Question: What if a rannx breaks? Will the user be able to find another one to replace it, or what? Good question. If a rannx breaks a person has even less time to fix the problem then if it, say, got lost or stolen. Because a rannx is essential part of a person, they will be physically injured and will lose control of their powers. To keep from losing control the person in question must forge a new rannx out of the old one, like a rebirth for them. The jist of reparing (in very simple terms): The person would have to go into the Spirit world with the broken rannx, hold it over their heart and drive a dagger through the rannx and their heart while reciting an incantation. What happens is the person's life force (blood) flows out of the place where the soul and magic reside (the heart.) The incantation directs this sudden burst of power into repairing the rannx. I realize this is a rather lengthy explanation for a question, but I hope it helps.

EXANIMISAfter a person dies, they will sometimes return to earth as an Exanimis (glowing spirit) for various purposes. Good spirits return as a form of Exanimis called an Ariès (AH-ree-ay, plural is the same), which can most easily be described as small, white butterflies with a glowing white aura around them. Evil spirits return as Vendir (vən-DEER, plural is the same), bat-like creatures with a blue aura. Exanimis (Latin for "lifeless" or "breathless") can also be forcefully brought back to earth through summoning. In this way, the spirit can be brought back as a normal Exanimis, be bound to an object or other living thing, be brought back as the form they had during life, or, if the summoner is skillfull enough, be given an entirely new body created on the spot. Over time, however, the spirit must return to the spirit world. Exanimis: This is the form of spirits when they come to the living world of their own accord. They can be summoned in this form, but most of the exanimis that are in Vargrim are their by choice. Object- and Animal-Binding: Most normally, the spirit is put into a stuffed animal, armor, things that at least somewhat resemble a human body. Animal-bindings work much better and last longer. This is the easiest summoning to perform and it can last indefinitely. Original Body: This summoning lasts the least time and is takes about a summoner with an average level of competency. The spirit is given a temporary body exactly like the one they had during life, usually showing them at about mid-twenties if they lived that long. This body is not real and is more only an illusion that ties the spirit to the world of the living. They cannot touch anything or move very far, and they can only stay in the real world for a maximum of a few minutes. New Body: Only the most skillful magicians can do this. It is where the spirit is summoned and given an entirely new body that is created by the summoner on the spot. These can only last a few days at most, but anyone skilled enough to create one can easily make another one to replace it. An Exanimis, being dead, has little use for magic, and so it overflows from them, creating the white or blue glow. Their touch can heal many injuries, lend power to the senses (enhanced sight, speed, intelligence, etc), along with many other things. They can also lend their magic to a living person, giving them extremely elevated magical ability. All of these, however, are consentual: you cannot force an Exanimis to do any of these. However, Vendir are much more easily persuaded to do such things or hypnotized into submission. It is nigh on impossible to gforce an Ariès to do these things. Exanimis can also talk, but it is often only a quiet voice or whispered, and only the person they are speaking to can hear it.

MAPSThis post is being made to address the many maps that have been made for the area's around and within the role play. Here a description (by the creator of the map) will be posted with the picture so as to make any clarifications. Creator: Map Arkane: Map of Kaito. It's pretty self explanatory so just take a look. I think it's fantastic and no one else has put one forward so I'm up for this one being the permanent map! Arkane/Vanair: Big Spooky Castle of ZOMBIES! There are two drawings. One is the outside of the castle drawn by Arkane and the other is the inside of the castle drawn by moi! *More descriptions to come.

Along with Van's post, I hereby post information about the countries!
Country: Yasuirando Owner: Jesse Capital: Shigaihakkyou Major Cities: Kaito Flag: Green and yellow Terrain: Mostly farmland with mountains surrounding.
Country: Kurath Owner: Vanair Capital: Lost City (Garu) Major Cities: None; a few small fishing settlements on the very borders of the country, but all former cities are now derelict shells of their former glory. Flag: Silver with a black silhouette of a heron. Terrain: Barren Other: Kurath was destroyed in war very long ago. Not much else is known.
Country: Adaela Owner: SlimmerCat Capital: Brumae Ensis Major Cities: Flag: White, with the insignia of the King in the center. Terrain: Mildly mountainous on the northwest coast, very snowy nearly year round aside from the "summer" months when everything blooms and the weather is temperate with mild rainshowers. Other: The country, along with Kurath, was nearly obliterated by war. The main population of Aeternix were decimated, and now only a few remain. The country is now under the Central Government,
Countries: Divin and Argrus Owner: Arkane Capitals: Major Cities: Flag: The united flag is white with a gold cross in the center. The Argrus flag features the crest: a big shield being held by an angel (wings spread). There's two swords crossed with a rose in the center on the shield. Of course there's the traditional Lion on one side and a Dragon on the other. Usually when they declare war (against others) they use the united flag (meaning they have the physical strength of Argrus and the Spiritual strength of Divin). Terrain (Divin): Terrain (Agrus): Other: Divin is the Holy land. That's where the god of Divin and Argrus' god supposidly existed and now is the gate to god/heaven and what not. They were one country at one time, but eventually they seperated to let one country be religious fanatics and the other was supposed to exist as a sort of royal gaurd to the home country. Argrus was more powerful than Divin obviously so they became independant and run their own business with a king, queen, etc, Though they still use Divin as the Holy Land and most of the people that live in Argrus travel there for pilgrimages and what not. They're at war right now cause I wanted the Head of the Church of Divin (as it is being called at this moment in time) to be one of the super big bad evil dudes. That and the fact that they want Argrus back under their control and to be unified again.
Alright, so, none of this is official, all of this is subject to change, most of the typos are not mine because a ton of this stuff was copied-and-pasted directly from conversations with the countries' owners.
If you've got info to add or change, feel free to post something in the OOC chat, or just change this directly if you're a mod. Thanks. <3
