I have a friend at school who is a yaoi fanatic. She looks at yaoi all the time and it's basicly what she talks about everyday, but when I bring up the topic about yuri she gets mad and starts telling me off. She says that it's nasty, discusting, dirty, slutty, trampy and other things that I cannot say. And everyone else I know agrees with her. But I don't see anything wrong with it. Not all yuri is nasty, or trampy, or slutty. What do think about this?

I think...that it's all because of the possible (and most likely) fact that your friend is so focused on yaoi that she (probably) understands boy/boy love more than girl/girl love.
Hell, it's probably even because yaoi is boy/boy and she likes boys doing...such things...that I cannot explain in full detail. >.>; Same goes with the boys liking girl on girl in yuri. 'S all somewhat a stereotype in some way or another, though, so don't take it literally.
Ignorance, stupidity, and/or a lack of understanding is all I have. XP

That's something I don't really understand either. But I have some friends that like yaoi, but they don't mind me liking Yuri. They're pretty much on the same level if you know what I mean.

If you ask me - which you are... in a sense - that sounds like hipocrisy of the highest calibur. It's just like most males being into girl/girl stuff and say that guy/guy stuff is nothing short of sacreligious (sp?).

I think it's because she's a girl. I didn't like yuri at first, but then my boyfriend somehow got me hooked on it. Most females don't like yuri because they find it disgusting or just degrading or just plain don't care for it. Most men I know are the same way towards yaoi.

That's kinda funny. But I think she was wrong for telling you off like that. I think it's really stupid for someone to jump all over someone just because they don't agree with something someone else likes. I don't necessarily like yaoi or Shounen ai, but I'm not going to freak out on someone just because they like it. I guess I'm more open minded than most other people.

Well...maybe ask her why she thinks it's slutty/disgusting? Right now I'm thinking that it's most likely due to the fact that she's homophobic on some level. Biased homophobic, much like most guys love lesbian porn but can't stand the thought of a gay man.
If not that, it could be that yes, she thinks it's another way to objectify and demean women by putting them together for men's pleasure. Could be, could be.

well its more normal for girls to find guys and guys hot.... but when girls start findin two girls being together is hot then... they just don't found it natarul.. i mean u don't see that many bois goin crazy when two girlie hot guys kiss... but they can't get theirs eyes off when girls start kissin~ same reason i suppose

Hate people like that! I can respect if you like Yaoi but do not like watching Yuri, and vice-versa, but don't be hating on it!
Hell, I'm a fan of both, big supporter of the lesbian couplings of Azumanga Daioh and Roy/Marth from SSB:M.
I think she just thinks that Yuri is weird because she is a girl. Now, that's ironic because just about everyone here is a girl, but there are many straight girls that see Yuri as disgusting because they themselves are women. Same thing with some, what am I saying, A LOT of guys not liking yaoi, if they even know what it is, because they are straight guys.
See, it all falls into this one sentence. For girls and guys respecitvely,"If I like Yuri/Yaoi, then I am a lesbian/homo." That's all it falls into... If they are not to confident about their sexuality, or scared what other people may think of them, then they go into the whole denial/hate thing, you know?
THAT, or the girl just thinks that guys or girls who watch it are perverts, so damn ironic in my view, truly it is....

I totally agree with you!
I mean, of course I lean more towards yuri, because I'm, well gay, but it doesn't mean that I can't like yaoi! Sure I don't like it as much...hell I barely like it at all! It's just stupid to like one thing and not the other...It makes me mad when people are one-sided-homophobic...
like,
Friend: OMG did you see those gay guys on Next last night? So hot!
Me: Ohh, so you like gay people?
Friend: Eww, no. Gay guys are only hot. I guess they can be together or whatever, but it's kind of wrong.
