In the case of the Lord of the Rings I had to give my vote to the film. I found those books very hard to read.
In general though I prefer the book to the film.

I can't decided. I agree with you Jenannen, I couldn't get past the first page!
But sometimes I can understand somthing more when i read it, but with a film you get a clear picture of the setting! sweatdrop

I vote film is better for comprehension and timeliness, but nothing beats a good book on a calm afternoon.
I vote books, hands down, no contest. It is something you develop a skill for and can lead to introspection or just entertainment. I suggest just reading you reading level. For example: The Wheel of Time Series is about the comprehension I am at, and the Animorph series is below me, and any english-class book is above my reading level (kinda, especially shakespeare)

I've read up to book seven of the Wheel of Time. Then I decided I'd just wait until the series was done before I read anymore of it. They're good books, but it takes a fair amount of time to get done with each one.

I vote books too. Nothing beats a book cuz you get to be the casting director (by this I mean that the characters look the way we want them to look, unless they're perfectly described in the book) and you also get to imagine what some of the settings look like. I do like movies too but most of the times, If I get my hands on a book, I rather read that instead.

A few books i would usggest reading
The Mood Riders The Voyage of the Snake Lady Two books based on a charecter called Myrina, who lives as a warrioress priestess, and battles life in acient greece. The first book is in the time of the Trogan war, and the second is afterwards. They're very good and emotional so you may need the tissues.
Piratica I I've only read the first one. I know theres a second one but i havn't read it. Yet I dpon't know how many there will be, It's about a girl called Artemisia who leaves home to sail with her mothers old pirate crew to gain tresure through trickery, but without killing. Yet again, emotional and sometimes complicated, yet worth the read.

They both have their appeal, but I vote books.
Here is a question: What about books that are made after the movies, (like novelizations of Star Wars movies for example). Has anyone read one and is it any good?

So you recommend those 2 books eh Adnachie? If I ever see them somewhere, I'll be sure to read them. That piratica sounds interesting... SirKirbance They both have their appeal, but I vote books. Hmm, I've only read a couple of those SW novels and I liked them. Maybe reading those is a bit better than seeing a movie but that's just my opinion. The ones I've read are: The courtship of Princess Leia & A lil book with Leia & Han's twins. It's about an adventure they had on Yavin 4 and the pilot of a crashed Tie fighter. That one's pretty good cuz they're in a jedi academy and stuff. Luke even makes an appearance!

I had this discussion with some coworkers. If you have the choice do you prefer to read the book first then see the movie, or see the movie first then read the book. I prefer to see the movie first, so I can enjoy it for what it is without having to criticize it for deficiencies or inaccuracies, then read the book and discover the bigger world the author created. My coworkers disagreed and would rather read the book first so they know the author's original intentions already when they step into the movie theatre.

How about Films versus Comic Books: like Batman, Spiderman, or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?
