Hi..This is going to feel awkward but I will say anyway.

I am being made to go to Sunday school which is something I dont want to do and being made to do comfirmation (which I think is a Catholic rite) the only thing is I do not want to commit myself to a faith I do not follow.

You might say "then why are you here" well I am here because I do not want to have ignorance towards the Christian religion. I have talked to my friends about it and the gave me good advice:

~ Look at the good side of Catholicism (and Christianity in general) and encourage them to be good catholics (my family is catholic)

I mean I obviously cannot say to them "Oh Dont practice Christianity!!" because it is something I wont do and I dont want to do anything to belittle the practices of others. At least they find comfort in their faith and that they are happy doing whatever they are doing rather than going out and doing bad stuff, etc.

So I tried doing, and I guess it is working. My mom has a picture of Jesus which I quietly contemplated as I recalled the adviced and that is what I am trying to do...look at the teachings of Christ. I am confused because some misinterpret the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ.

There are some things that are inspiring to me from Jesus Christ and his teachings though.

If I could please get advice from my Christian brothers and sisters, it would be nice.

My friend also adviced me to take the religious classes but to participate in the rite is your (my) choice.

Thank you. May you be happy ^_^

PS: I forgot to mention this part...I decided to post this here because I feel as if in the forums people will either bash me whatsoever and it is better if I talk to practicioners of the faith instead.

If you are feeling inspired by the teachings of Christ and want to keep the peace, then I like the idea of taking the classes and then only participating in the rite if you so choose.

I know so many people misinterpret the bible to suit their own needs, and others just don't understand. If you ever have any questions about something in your classes, feel free to post here for a different point of view. smile Just keep in mind that there are numerous interpretations, and there is no way to know for certain who is right or wrong.

I hope this was helpful.

Thank you very much for your response ^_^ I greatly appreciate it. I will just have to find the right words to say when the time comes though. Anyway, thank you again and I hope I was not a bother.

Take care

How about: I don't think I can do that right now; it wouldn't be right. That tends to make people pay attention. Confirmation is supposed to be a voluntarily, adult affirmation of a faith you apparently aren't sure about or don't want to mess with right now. I say go through the classes, see if it's for you, and then TALK TO THE PRIEST< or better yet, if the bishop does the confirmation (like in my church) tell him at when he comes in to meet you guys before hand. It would be much nicer not to spring that on your priest at the last minute, though, and I would only do that as a last resort.

The best advice that I have, being someone who's bounced around religion alot over the last year or so, is that you shouldn't rush anything. Religion is, in all it's forms, a very important decision, one that impacts every facet of your life if you're doing it right.

My next advice, which is something you've at least taken steps towards, is to find a personal connection with divinity. It might sound ridiculous or fluffy or whatever, but it works. The methods and means differ, but the best way to find your path is to cut out the middle man. My personal belief is your faith is only relevant to you and the divine.

Lastly, have fun. No worthwhile divinity would condemn you to a boring or unrelentingly painful life to save you. That's masochistic crap.

Martin Luther's hymn says:

"the body they may kill;
God's truth abideth still"

whichy i take to mean that only you control the freedom of your conscience.

any rite in which you do not willingly acquiesce is not binding on your spieit, period.

God knows, and will judge.
