The savannah was a good place for picking up things he could simply kull for the hell of it. He had been out and about for several days now he had eaten well, scouted the lands but found nothing of interest.

He had spent several days in no lions land wandering, eating, sleeping, the usual, until he had come upon a small outcrop. He could see the graveyard in the distance and he pndered whom owned this land. It was certainly not pridelands.

Laying himself quietly upon one of the larger rocks he had taken to sunbathing, relaxing in the heat of the day allowing hi body to warm through.

His mind was interrupted though as he heard movements and slowly, but surely a wild dog had appeared. He had cornered the beast, threatened to kill it, and forced information about the lands he was upon out of the poor creature before finally putting it out of it's misery.

Dogs were no good to eat, they were simply scum so he lay with the mangled beast between his paws and slowly started to skin it. After all he needed soem new furs to replace the ones that damned slave had ruined giving birth! He spat and hissed at noone, his mind fumeing with the recent disgrace, two more daughters, was he cursed to forever bear these disgraced beasts?

It was a good day. An excellent day!

The sun was bright and the sky unblemished by clouds. So alive! The hyena pup grinned, tongue lolling, and gazed out across the tall grasses. It was certainly the best day of his life, as far as he could remember anyways! Better than yesterday, or the day before that or the day before that...

Neus flicked an ear; a strange noise carried across the savannah, a crying call... The grey pup's ears swivled in an attempt to pinpoint the sound, but it seemed to come from everywhere at once. Then, abruptly, it cut off. Insects buzzed and hummed in the grass and the sun was still high.

How strange. Neus stood and stretched casually, but the raised hackles on his back spoke of fear. But he shouldn't be afraid! There was nothing out here. After all, he'd only ever seen himself. And the insects and birds, of course.

Despite these thoughts his fur remained raised. Slowly he made his way towards a rocky outcropping, hoping for shade and a more peaceful rest.

((sorry this took me ages hun been busy / bleh **tappas**))

Lukily perhaps for the little heyna, Nyekundu was thoroughly engrossed in his little act. He liked to take the fur away whole and was very careful doing this. His golden eyes were fixed upon the creature before him as he carefully peeled away the skin. He could faintly remember the first time he had done this, more for fun than for practicality, he remembered the mess he had made. Still doing it alot he could do it quite efficiantly now.

A movement not too far away made the salmon lord raise his head and search out accross the rocks, this wild dogs mate perhaps? He smirked, how he loved to kill them.

In his eyes, alot of creatures were scum and below him, he knew he was atthe top, then below him, other male lions, below that female lions, then there were leopards, then cheetahs, who only just made it in to the books of don't kill immediately, then there was everything else which could be killed and exterminated at his will. They were vermin and should die at his claws. It was a simple system.

He lay watchful for a moment longer before returning to the task at hand, he was nearlly finished.

((That's fine, I understand! I'm rather busy myself. 83))

There was something in the air, something familiar... Pausing, Neus lifted his nose to the wind and sniffed. It was faint, but there; the metallic-iron scent of blood.

The pup almost turned around then. Neus wasn't below superstition; certainly instinct wasn't something to be ignored. But in this case, well, the blood didn't smell exactly fresh and, after all, things did die. He'd seen them on the savannah, nothing left but bones and drapes of fur.

Silly. There was nothing here! He was alone, free. With an effort the pup managed to calm himself enough to approach the rocky outcroppings. He even managed to summon up some of his old cheerfulness, and by the time he'd reached the first shady ledge the pup had even begun to believe that he was alone. That is, until he pranced out of the shade and straight into the path of a monsterous salmon-colored male lion.

Well, to be honest it was difficult to determine the male's true coloring. The pup shivered and stood rooted to the spot, staring wide-eyed at the blood-coated ground and the pitiful mess between the lion's taloned paws.

Okay, that did it, the pale males attention was drawn swiftly, all too swiftly away from his skinning to the small hyena pup. For a moment, he acctually looked surprised to see someone, some thing else, but there it was, almost on top of him. He licked his maw, blood soaked and no longer it's usual moon white. His lips curled in a slow smirk and he weaved left, intending to break the hyenas escape route. Two skins for the price of one? Stupid scavanger.

His eyes sparked red then, his pink tongue lapping out at his crimson stained lips. "Hello there puppy, are you here to play with me and my friend here?" his smirk further lifted then pearly teeth flashing in the bright sunlight, long, dangerous, bloodied. He did so enjoy taunting his prey before he put an end to it's miserable little life.

His dark mane fell over one eye as he snaked his way around, still not worthy of a meal, but the fur would add a nice colour to his furs collection.

Oh, crap.

Neus may not have seen a creature like this one before, but he knew a predator when he saw one. Any thoughts of friendship, or even mere tolerance, were abandoned as the bloodied lion approached. He was huge! All claws and teeth and muscle! The pup shivered, wide grey-green eyes drawn to the carnage on the ridge.

But the monster was asking him to play?

"What?" Neus pinned his ears back against his skull, hackles raised. "No! I... don't want to play!" A high-pitched growl wrenched from his throat, a sound more like a plea than a threat. Why hadn't he turned around? He'd been so alive! Now he'd be like the dead thing, all bones and skin... "Please..." The last part came out as little more than a whisper.

"No bones..." Neus whimpered and stepped backwards, sliding on loose gravel. With a squeak he tripped, then scrambled to his feet, heart pumping wildly. "Go 'way!"

A low, thick chuckle echoed form the large chest of the beast before poor neus. "Oh no little beast, you must stay and play my game until you join your vermin brethren" he glances at the decapitated body he had abandoned for the moment to toy with this poor hyena pup.

"No creature tells me what to do, I am the king of this empire and you will follow my orders until you die." He smirks his eyes dancing, he did so enjoy oputting heirs and graces upon himself but one day, all this would be his. "Speak your name pup, if it is possible for an addled brain to draw upon lifes simplest of things, speak your name so i can whisper it before i cut your throat and you join my fur collection."

Those golden eyes danced, he was enjoying this, the scent of fear surrounded him, clinging to his fur, clogging his ears, his sences dulled and locked upon this poor most helpless of beasts. Oh how he enjoyed this, the weaker were there to be toyed with, were there to die at his claws, that was the way of the world, that was the way of HIS world.

The pup shrank back further, if possible, flattening himself against the sun-warmed rocks. He understood his predicament with perfect clarity, and he wished desperately for uncomprehending bliss instead. Neus' eyes followed the lion's amused gaze, flitting over the decapitated corpse with a soft whine.

"Neus will be good!" He wagged his short tail tentatively. "He'll leave! Your... em-empire is not his!" How was he supposed to know these rocks were the Big Thing's rocks? He hadn't known! That poor dead thing hadn't known either...

Fear hightened his senses and tingled through his limbs, giving the pup strength that he didn't know he'd had. Not that he had the courage to use it. Not yet, anyways. The grey body shivered. "Neus will be good..." He repeated.

His small, desperate voice was overridden by the deep, maliciously amused voice of the Big Thing. It seemed to rumble through his body; the pup's grey-green eyes widened further at the threat of death. Suddenly the sun seemed achingly wonderful, the grass beyond the bloody hill unbelievably lush and welcoming... It was all the provoking he needed.

"Neus won't die... won't die... won't be a fur for a monster!" Although the insult was whispered, it took all his willpower just to force it past the snarl on his lips. With a yip the pup took his only chance and sprinted past the Big Thing.

Adrenaline pumped, tingling through taunt muscles and lending him speed. He kept his eyes focused on the sunny grass, the cool shade - as though looking at Nyek was a sure promise of death.

((**hugs you much** I am honestly so, so sorry this took me so long to get to. I'v been really busy in rl!))

Perhaps the salmon lord enjoyed a chase, enjoyed thethought of something small, meaningless, runing fromhim in total fear, in terror, in hatred, but he let the pup slip past him only to take up chase with a long legged bound those large, heavy mucles propelling the pale lord after the poor terrified pup.

It didn't take very long for Nyeks breath to fall hotly on the youngsters flanks, his smirk ever widening as he whipped out one of those deadly claws to loop underneath the hyenas back legs, to trip him, to make him stumble, to possibly injure him enough to make this little game of cat and nmouse, slower, more painful.

tyhe golden eyed male wa sin the mood for a game. It was fun to kill the victim slowly, taunt them, make them thingk they will even live through the torture, though ultimately, these games came to the same end, death, sweet, blissful death.

((Don't worry about it, I've been swamped with work lately! <3 ))

Runrunrun! Neus had never been so afraid, so desperate to escape, in his life. Not even that time the orange dog chased him away from the water hole. This time there was blood in the air... and his back tingled as he felt the Big Thing coming up behind him.

Almost there... The thought was more flash of hope-joy-vitality than any true words, but it was enough for him. Claws scrabbling for purchase across the soft grass and slick rock, Neus bolted forwards-

-and was suddenly tumbling head over heels. He landed hard and skidded to a rough stop, legs twisted painfully beneath him. The grey pup choked and struggled for the breath that had been knocked out of him, and fear sent his nerves tingling.

Neus struggled to get to his feet, but a white-hot flash of pain stopped him short. His backleg... it would move! Movemovemove! He thought desperatly at it, MOVEMOVEMOVE! ... nothing.

He lay slowly, that golden eyed tyrant, surrounding the pup with his bulk, curling his body around that small creature, fencing the youngster in so he could taunt him for at leat a while longer without having to do much running.

His tail wapped slowly up and down, the thick tuft at the end whapping at the youngsters nose, perhaps even pummeling the poor creature accross the head a few times with this seemingly harmless appendage. "I'm so glad you could stay" he whispers starting to groom his paws, even closing his eyes as he cleaned his harge pale face. This was a slow game of death now, the pup was injured, it would be easy enough just to break it's neck and be done with it, but no, like any cat, he enjoyed toying with his victims, making them pay slowly for their lives in small drops of blood, in broken appendages and soulfilled shreiks as he pulled them apard from the soul outwards.

"Do you fear death pup? You may live yet you know, if you can do a few little, tasks, for me" his smirk broadened, oh the fun of this, he would have this pup doing all sorts of chores before the night was out upon the useless limb, then and only then would he tear it's little whiny throat out and watch it bleed, watch it slowly bleed to death.

Neus didn't move for a moment. Not that he really was able to, anyways. His back leg... it wouldn't move no matter how much his mind screamed at his. The pup glared ineffectually at the shattered limb, but it remained stubbornly numb and motionless.

Then the shadow fell over him, and the soft voice of the Big Thing whispered into his ear. His hackles rose and he bared his teeth in a paniced, defiant grimace. The pup - well, he felt that he had aged a lifetime in a few seconds. Death was close, but he wouldn't sit down and take it.

But he did fear it, and he didn't see a reason to lie to the Big Thing. It would probably know and punish him anyways.

"Yes..." Neus whispered, eyes wide and staring, unfocused as he met the Big Thing's gaze. "Neus is afraid. Neus wants to go home."

Wherever that was. The last part was nearly inaudible, spoken almost as a lament for something the pup would never have. But... maybe he could earn the right to have it? He shivered, eyes suddenly darting to the massive paws that surrounded him. His head and neck ached where the Big Thing's tail pounded him.

"What! What should Neus do?"

He hated himself for asking, but his brain was focused on survival. His voice was shrill, pain-filled and panicked. What could he do? What what what? He caught a wiff of blood in the breeze and whimpered.

It seemed today was the silver colored hyena's lucky day. Fortunate for him, Mafa, alpha of the graveyard pack was just returning from a quaint hunt and a satisfying meal. She felt rather empowered, after that meat, not having eaten a few days before hand. Full of energy and stamina, Mafa trotted on, in a relatively good mood.

But, wouldn't you know it, there was always something to smother her good mood just as it came. Up ahead, Mafa's ears perked to the sounds of a scuffle. Upon further testing the scents, she recognized it as a lion and a hyena. And there was blood. Now, Mafa had no way of knowing who was coming out on top, but she was the eternal pessimist, and besides, she'd be glad to offer a helping paw to bring a lion down. There would be no words. Only blood.

With a burst of speed, she ran foreward, until the gruesome scene lay before her. A scruffy, and rather large salmon tinted lion was looming dangerously over a young looking hyena. Mafa snarled immediately, positioning herself into a battle stance. She didn't know this hyena, or this lion, but the disgusting beast was hurting one of her own. And she'd fight for the pup, since he was obviously in trouble.

The alpha charged foreward, snarling the whole way, spittle falling from her jaws as she did so. She reached the lions shortly, her neck snapping out from to bite at him, keeping in mind to keep the rest of her vitals and paws protected.

The salmon tinted lord was't exactly expecting any interruptions, so when the very large, very formidable looking hyena came running at him, he was on his paws in an instant. Nyekundu was no fool, he knew what Hyenas, full grown hyenas were like,a nd this one, well this one was no pup with which he could play his games. He snarled as she clipped one of his shoulders and he bounced out of reach. "Stay out fo this rat, that thing belongs to me" He points a claw at the little soft grey pup, he growls, backing up slightly to perhaps gain a better vantage point, or even an attack point on the huge female.

The Golden eyed lord knew not to mess with full grown hyenas and this female, well she was clearly some sort of giant, he could fight her but he would probably come off with a few scars and scrapes, and scars never looked good upon a king. He tenced his claws,a nd made long, grooves withhis claws int he ground. He growled low in his throat a circled away slightly. he wanted his prize back but he didn't quite fancy tangling with the big hyena.

Narrowing his golden eyes he licked his lips, pursing his pale fuurred mouth in a contemplating manner. "Just go about your buisness fur bag, can't you see I'm busy ridding the world of a peice of filth." He raised a brow. "what good is it to you hmm? You won't even eat it, I'll make a good use of the little lump of fur at least." he lifted a paw and waved it at the poor little hyena pup "whats the point in fighting over something so meaningless?" A raised brow once again, he wanted to tear the damn females ears off, how dare she interrupt him. how dare she. A low growl echoed from his chest. "It's mine damnit get your own!" he snarled, takig a step towards Neus, he wasn't exactly willing to give up the pup just yet, though he was throwing caution to the wind. mafa was a damn big hyena, He really didn't want to have those jaws wrapped around something.

Damn hyena, how dare she stick her nose in to HIS buisness! He continued to move slowly, circling back towards Neus, he wasn't going to give the little wretch up that easily, oh no, not yet any way.

Neus cringed, burying his small face in the fluff of his tail. Nothing was happening, it was all going to be fine. Fine fine fine. Like every other day, he'd just wake up and leave, travel aimlessly with no one nowhere. Everything would be fine...

He could feel the Big Thing's hot breath on his shoulder, feel it's tail thumping on the ground near his small body.

No... it wasn't going to be fine. The pup suddenly relaxed. It was going to be just awful. But... he would make sure to give this Big Thing at least a small reminder of his life. Pretending paralytic fear, the small hyena tensed, eyes on the huge paw that was resting near his face.

But before he could react, something -huge- bowled into his tormentor and drove it back. Grey-green eyes wide, the pup stared in awe at the newcomer, fear forgotten with the sudden shift in circumstances. He watched, silent, as the Big Thing snarled and clawed the earth. His captor circled nearer and Neus tensed. He could help. He -would- help. Courage born of desperation gave him strength. His new protector would have help.

He just hoped this "hyena", as the Big Thing called it, wouldn't turn out to be as bad as the Big Thing itself.

"Notfilth!" Even if his words couldn't be discerned, one thing was clear - his sharp tone and defiant posture. Neus dragged himself to a tenuious three-legged stand and bared his small teeth, hackles up.

With a weak lunge and a fearfilled yip, the pup latched onto one of the giant's paws, biting as hard as he could.
