For me, A dragonlance Book dream come true would be to have: Dragons of Summer Flame re-written into the trilogy that IT WAS MEANT TO BE!!!
Damn those editors, why would they rush the production like that? Just think of the stuff that we could’ve had in detail if there’d been more space, and time?
Raistlin and Crysannia? They said she was gone, patching things over smoothly so that Raistlin doesn’t have the chance to speak with her! How lame. Absolutely lame… Raistlins Daughter they could’ve gone into more detail there! Even if it wasn’t Usha, and there was so many possibilities with the Irda dont even get me started there… Raistlin and Caramon only having ONE CHAPTER after twenty years apart!!! Get real!! That was just dumb…
Tanin and Sturm should’ve had an appearance in the book before they died, I liked the jolly young Sturm Majere from his Weis & Hickmans short stories!!
Riverwinds kids “Wanderer” and…I cant recall the girls names..umm, Brightdawn and Moonsong? ( something like that) been in the book(s) also. Tanis’s death was okay I guess…He could’ve died but in a different way. Over whelmed by the enemy maybe, not stabbed in the back.
The fact that Gilanthas didn’t make an appearance was dumb but I dont like that character anyway. (They say in 2nd Generation that he was sixteen, and they make him sound like a human teenager. As tall as Laurana? I thought Elves (he’s ¾ elf.) matured to adolecense at around 35-40yr’s!!! Weis and Hickman fluked there but I can forgive them )
What about you? What do you think needs to be re-written or changed in the Dragonlance Novels. ALL of THEM, not just the Weis and Hickman novels

That would be as retarded as George Lucas and Stephen SPielberg altering "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
Its a well loved book. Books are art. Would you make a painting and then 20 years later go to the art museum its in and make little tweaks to the painting? No chances are you wouldn't...unless you're a self serving perfectionist, then you probably never created anything that has been seen by anyone other than yourself.

Hey, this is all hypothetical. I'm sure a painter could go to a museum, see a painting, and point out what he would have done differently to make the painting better in his eyes.
On to the massacre. Summer Flame is my number one. It would be the story of how Palin gets his staff. I just couldn't get behind it. Raistlin busted his a** and sacrificed his health for magic. Many times he put his life on the line for the art. Palin whined and went through an illusion, same as every other mage, and he gets an artifact. I think he either shouldn't have gotten it or gotten it in Summer Flame at some point.

As for Gilthas and his aging, thats a disputed topic. In DnD terms, it really depends on the house rules, at least for second ed.

I agree. I wish that Summer of Flame could've been a trilogy or else, Second Genreation should've been a lot more than those 5 little stories that were collected out of Tales, or what not. Anywho...Wies and Hickman are amazing writers, more than anything I am mad at the editors for rushing the art process that is so delicate only a writer can understand.
I wish I had Weis and Hickmans skill, then maybe my books would be ready for publishing.

They were good. By no means were they the best authors I have ever read, but they were pretty good. I think the big selling point for dragonlance was their DnD basis and a small epic world. But, you bring up a good point. Perhaps the Second Generation should have been one long story that led up to Summer Flame.

My dream-edit would probably be for Weis and Hickman to have done something with the whole 'Raistin's Daughter' thing. It would have pwned if he really did have a daughter, even if it wasn't Usha.
