!Second Post:
Quebec Hip-Hop (French-Canadian hip-hop)
That's where I come from! Heck yeah we got a hip-hop scene. The only problem is that almost everybody tries to immitate the US. I'll pick some of the ones that aren't god damn sheeps.
Some are street influenced, some are more political. But still we were influenced by our opressed past as french canadian.
DUBMATIQUE
(Ok they are corny. Ok they were super duper commercial sugar. BUT they still were the first put hip-hop in the radar here.)
La force de comprendre (The strength to understand)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBLYfvlzadY (That's the song that put hip hop in the radar here.)
-SANS PRESSION
(This guy is the REAL veteran of the HIPHOP scene here. Street oriented BUT still smart. I like that guy)
Star-Système Québécois (Quebec Star-System) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb0ibWQOdfc (This is a critic of the quebec star system. Since we have a really small community here, it sucks. So big record companies can impose a damn sound on musician of all type.)
Derrière mon sourire (Behind my Smile) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51pHFdW6dq4 (Talking about the realities, struggles and the dark side of Montreal of Montreal.)
Jugement Dernier (Last Jugement) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e39jay3VNEc (Same thing as above)
-LOCO LOCASS
(Those guys are ABSOLUTE LYRICAL GENIUSES. Smart, engaged, political, full of writing processes. Metaphores, images, dissonance, alliterations, elleptycal images..... It's not hip-hop, it's lyrical gymnastics. Best lyricists HANDS DOWN. They don't spit tracks, they write ******** political poems. They reflect on historical facts, modern politics... They use beats influence by sounds of all over the world. They look like jokers, but they are serious s**t! Best s**t out of here.)
La censure à L'échaffaud (Hanging Censorship) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfWX5O-fe8c (Reflects on the fact that everyone in Canada say that separatists are racists. Wich is not true and the fact that the rest of Canada was REALLY into anti-semitism while Quebec peopl were more acceptant of everyone).
La bataille des murailles (The ramparts battles) WITH A DAMN SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA! HOLY s**t! 0_0! -
http://www.audiogram.com/nouvelles/20060525/(A metaphore about the America's Summit in Quebec City in 2000 and the riot that the event caused.)
Groove Grave (Sinister Groove) -
http://www.audiogram.com/groovegrave/ (Talks about politics mostly and the current international climate. Also on fear, predominant post 911 fear and american imperialism).
-TAKTIKA
(Ok I used to HATE THOSE ASSHOLES. It was just bling bling s**t when they started and then something changed, they started being smart)
Des fois J'me dit (Sometimes I tell myself) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8avDqDUIo_8-LE 8-3
(I hate those guys (all bling bling crap for the most part) BUT they did something AMAZING.A couple of years back, at our equivalent of the Grammies, they bum rushed the stage at the last award and said: "Ok we're from a group called the 8-3 and we're here to talk about something consterning: You got a rock category, a pop, solo, best seller, best male best everything but where is the best Hip hop? SOme artists are struggling here while you revel in your own fame. PLEASE, we want recognition for our music and our art. Thank you."
I can always respect that.)
- Dernier Chapitre (Last Chapter) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF_e9NS7pFQ- L'ASSEMBLÉE
(New guys, mostly smart rhymes)
On fini par se perdre (You end up losing yourself) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97Nk0StkJjo (This is a metaphore, they compare money to a women they're chasing. Talking about poverty and stuff like that).
J'Étouffe (I'm shocking) ((With Taktika)-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijbq0znT_JA (The hardships of life and how human life isn't valued anymore)
I can take this -
