Hey since I'm a French-Canadian (and damn proud!). I just thought I would share some of the french hip-hop artists I like. Maybe it'll rub on ya, maybe you'll hate it. I just thought I would make it for diversity sakes.

First Post:
-France Hip-hop
Mostly dominated by the Marseille scene. Really angry, on marseille part. A lot of arabic people in that game because of the heavy repression of the past on Arabs in what they call "Les Cités" (It's like an american "ghetto" but WAY WAY WAY crappier. Believe me) that still go on to this day. Very revolutionnary OR really smart rhymes.

-MC SOLAAR
(That guy is the original Rapper from France. He kinda started it all. Thoughtfulness, smarts and politics. This guy is the true veteran of the French Scene. He's a smooth ******** N my Grill (With Missy Elliott) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttuphX6Lq-Q

Gangster Moderne (Modern Gangster) - http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=5102389036235394544&q=MC+Solaar
(This song talks about politicians. The chorus goes like this: "Modern Gangster, you just have to add a couple of zeroes. Full of metaphores.)

Le bien Le mal (The good The bad) - http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=-6987460062693401534&q=MC+Solaar (Old school! hehehe)

Le Nouveau Western ( The New Western) - http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=-575906612161883597&q=MC+Solaar

-IAM
(The real Veterans from Marseille. Those guys are thoughtful geniuses. Really metaphorically driven (Mostly wild west, old school al capone gansters, samurai.... warriors of all sorts). They did collabs with Wu Tang, Redman, Method man, Beyonce... Those guys are the s**t when it comes to French Rap. Composed of Akhénaton, Shuriken and Freeman(Thought they have many aliases.)
Music:

Independenza - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMBJI60_C-Y

Petit Frère (Little Brother) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuPzk8aEYuM (that song is awesome.... old stuff from em' but if you can understand the lyrics, holyshit!)

Noble Art (with Method man and Redman) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMWk7ytysB0

La Saga (With Wu Tang) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZPjgjkSv9g

-FONKY FAMILY
(Other group from Marseille. Big collective! I have a soft spot for em'. Angsty-er than Iam, lots of rage.... Composed of: Pone, Le Rat Luciano, Djel, Blaze, Menzo, Don Choa, Sat and Fafa. They're really close friends with IAM and did tons of tracks togheter.) Check em' out

Marginal Musique (Marginal Music) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9pTeeFiNoo

Dans la Légende (In legends) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ncnf7Iqm_r8 (REALLY critical track of the French system)

Art de Rue (Street Arts) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6urXQsKN0M (Tribute to Mcee's, b-boys, beatboxes, etc.)

Sans Rémission (With no remission) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXY0HkH8mN0 (this one is OLD, you're gonna hear it in the beat.)

-SNIPER
More political, critical, thoughtfull. Still, more down to earth than IAM but not as metaphorically driven.)

Trait pour Trait (Line for Line) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mx_mCknbGJs (They critic what hip-hop has become, more sugar than substance).

Du Rire aux Larmes (From Laughter to Tears) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzDfS6hlF6I

-SUPREME NTM AKA NTM
(Another veteran group.)

Laisse pas trainer ton fils (Don't leave your kid hanging) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFSb7ftZTw4

Pose ton Gun (Drop your gun) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waIjB5a_FEI (A song against gun violence)

!Second Post:
Quebec Hip-Hop (French-Canadian hip-hop)
That's where I come from! Heck yeah we got a hip-hop scene. The only problem is that almost everybody tries to immitate the US. I'll pick some of the ones that aren't god damn sheeps.
Some are street influenced, some are more political. But still we were influenced by our opressed past as french canadian.

DUBMATIQUE
(Ok they are corny. Ok they were super duper commercial sugar. BUT they still were the first put hip-hop in the radar here.)
La force de comprendre (The strength to understand)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBLYfvlzadY (That's the song that put hip hop in the radar here.)

-SANS PRESSION
(This guy is the REAL veteran of the HIPHOP scene here. Street oriented BUT still smart. I like that guy)

Star-Système Québécois (Quebec Star-System) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb0ibWQOdfc (This is a critic of the quebec star system. Since we have a really small community here, it sucks. So big record companies can impose a damn sound on musician of all type.)

Derrière mon sourire (Behind my Smile) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51pHFdW6dq4 (Talking about the realities, struggles and the dark side of Montreal of Montreal.)

Jugement Dernier (Last Jugement) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e39jay3VNEc (Same thing as above)

-LOCO LOCASS
(Those guys are ABSOLUTE LYRICAL GENIUSES. Smart, engaged, political, full of writing processes. Metaphores, images, dissonance, alliterations, elleptycal images..... It's not hip-hop, it's lyrical gymnastics. Best lyricists HANDS DOWN. They don't spit tracks, they write ******** political poems. They reflect on historical facts, modern politics... They use beats influence by sounds of all over the world. They look like jokers, but they are serious s**t! Best s**t out of here.)

La censure à L'échaffaud (Hanging Censorship) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfWX5O-fe8c (Reflects on the fact that everyone in Canada say that separatists are racists. Wich is not true and the fact that the rest of Canada was REALLY into anti-semitism while Quebec peopl were more acceptant of everyone).

La bataille des murailles (The ramparts battles) WITH A DAMN SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA! HOLY s**t! 0_0! - http://www.audiogram.com/nouvelles/20060525/
(A metaphore about the America's Summit in Quebec City in 2000 and the riot that the event caused.)

Groove Grave (Sinister Groove) - http://www.audiogram.com/groovegrave/ (Talks about politics mostly and the current international climate. Also on fear, predominant post 911 fear and american imperialism).

-TAKTIKA
(Ok I used to HATE THOSE ASSHOLES. It was just bling bling s**t when they started and then something changed, they started being smart)

Des fois J'me dit (Sometimes I tell myself) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8avDqDUIo_8

-LE 8-3
(I hate those guys (all bling bling crap for the most part) BUT they did something AMAZING.A couple of years back, at our equivalent of the Grammies, they bum rushed the stage at the last award and said: "Ok we're from a group called the 8-3 and we're here to talk about something consterning: You got a rock category, a pop, solo, best seller, best male best everything but where is the best Hip hop? SOme artists are struggling here while you revel in your own fame. PLEASE, we want recognition for our music and our art. Thank you."
I can always respect that.)

- Dernier Chapitre (Last Chapter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF_e9NS7pFQ

- L'ASSEMBLÉE
(New guys, mostly smart rhymes)

On fini par se perdre (You end up losing yourself) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97Nk0StkJjo (This is a metaphore, they compare money to a women they're chasing. Talking about poverty and stuff like that).

J'Étouffe (I'm shocking) ((With Taktika)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijbq0znT_JA
(The hardships of life and how human life isn't valued anymore)

I can take this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjfgSvj7oVA

Yep! I'll post some more later, I'm tired now.
