I prefer Faramir myself. More thoughtful, more inclined towards the scholarly side of life, and just generally a cooler guy in my eyes. Now, this isn't to say I don't like Boromir. They both have their good points and their bad points. But I like Faramir more, I think.

Plus, he made Éowyn happy. Who wouldn't like him for that? surprised

Definately Faramir. He was nicer and more, I don't know, I just felt sorry for him, while Boromir acted like a SOB.

I also prefer Faramir. Boromir... had he been the one to meet Frodo instead of Faramir towards the end of TT's, whould have taken the ring for himself. I... I just know it. -_-;;

I can't say I could choose one over them other, but I think that the way Tolkien made Boromir was very interesting and stressed the fact that sometimes Man's desire can be overwhelming, and lead to downfall. Or losing a friend.

I like Faramir. He just gets the sympathy vote because you feel so bad for the way Denethor treats him. Boromir is just so cocky and arrogant that you have trouble emathizing with him.

Sympathy vote, indeed.

"Do you wish then," said Faramir, "that our places had been exchanged?"

"Yes, I wish that indeed," said Denethor. "For Boromir was loyal to me and no wizard's pupil. He would have remembered his father's need, and would not have squandered what fortune gave. He would have brought me a mighty gift."

I know a lot of people thought that it was a bad decision that Peter Jackson made to have the hobbits dragged back to Ithilien in the movies, but if you know the right material, it really serves to illustrate the sort of sibling rivalry between Faramir and Boromir. Alas, I think it was simply lost on those who hadn't read the books. gonk

Actually, that's what made him easier for me to relate to. Don't get me wrong, I love Faramir (he's one of my favorite characters), but he's just so good and noble and strong...and that's just not me. I'm weak because I'm human, and I think Boromir's faults brought that sense of empathy out.

I really couldn't choose between the brothers, though. If only Denethor had felt the same way. gonk

I'd have to agree: Faramir is my personal favorite. He's more thoughtful, more intelligent, much cuter heart , more open-minded, more pure in a sense (he, unlike Boromir, has no desire for the Ring), and more sensitive to his family and the men who fight with him. He isn't loud and boastful, he doesn't barge into situations, and he certainly doesn't try to steal rings from sweet little hobbits. sweatdrop

...I agree with Estelyn completely. Even though I did like Faramir better for Serpent's reasons.
