J K Rowling websiteSummary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stoneby Kylene Beers, Assistant Professor of Reading at the University of Houston, Texas Harry Potter has lived a miserable life since his parents' death. Left to survive with his horrible aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, and their spoiled son Dudley, Harry has been forced to live in a spider-ridden closet under the stairs. But as his eleventh birthday approaches, all this is about to change. A mysterious letter arrives by owl messenger, inviting him to attend Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is astonished to learn the truth about his parents — that they were wizards of the highest renown — and that he is destined to become one too. At Hogwarts, Harry finds friends and becomes an expert in Quidditch, an aerial sport played on broomsticks. But soon he becomes involved in a life-threatening struggle against the forces of darkness, and finds himself fighting for survival against those who would rather see him dead before he can come into his full powers.

I used to like Harry Potter. I was a really big fan of his. o.o But then...I dunno. I guess I just lost interest in the series. I quit reading them after book five.

My favorite is book three, because Harry finally has someone like real family. It bothers me that the kids in the books are left so much on their own, that the adults are so ineffectual.
Other than that, I think the books are rather brilliant.
Oh, yeah, I remember I hated them at first, because I thought they were a cheap ripoff of Ursula K LeGuin's Earthsea books which feature a school for wizards. Then I read the Harry books and realized that there's stuff drawn from many sources, plus much that's original. It's the British school story and kids in a magic world, all rolled into one hero's quest, drawing on classic European mythic sources.

Sorry to be picky but isn't the title Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I'm anti-harry potter so I can't really comment, I've read better books. I also

@Vox_Draconis - It was Sorceror's Stone in the States, and Philosopher's everywhere else, right?
I used to be a moderate-ish Harry Potter Fan. I loved the first three books, and the fourth one shook me up. I felt that the sixth book was a bit too rushed; I know there should be one book left in the series, but for all that to happen in the penultimate volume...wow. @_@
