"At the dawn of the millennium, the nation collapsed. At 15% unemployment 10 million were out of work. 800,000 students boycotted school. The adults lost confidence, and fearing the youth, eventually passed the ''Millennium Education Reform Act'' AKA: The BR Act..."
The youth of today are out of control. Delinquency, truancy, and violence run rampant among their ranks. The government has decided to put a stop to this by initiating the BR Act. Every year, one ninth grade class will be selected to compete in a "Battle Royale," a fight to the death where only one student will be left standing. Nothing is against the rules.

So you thought you were going on a class trip to a tropical paradise on an island south of Tokyo, but you ended up gassed and locked in a classroom with your 40 classmates and two frightening transfer students. Then soldiers appeared, along with your former teacher. He looked smug, not harrowed and distraught like when you and your classmates had tormented him in 7th grade. He informed you that your class had been selected by impartial lottery to participate in a Battle Royale. To show you he wasn't ******** around he wheeled in the body of your teacher, who'd been shot through the head. Once the class gets done screaming you learned how you're going to die.
