I was thinking and talking to whoever was using the GuildMule at the time and I've been thinking.
We have yet to see a person with parents that aren't of the same bending element.
People seem to have a popular theme with making their OCs bi-benders. By saying that I mean they can bend two elements because of their genetics and because of their parents.
I'm thinking the reason there haven't been any earthbenders and waterbenders (or whatever other pairings) getting together and making happy is because it might cause the child to be unable to bend.
Technically, they would both be dominant genes, so either they would both get cancelled out OR one would become a recessive gene. I'm thinking that if an Airbender and an Earthbender were to get together, it would cancel out the bending completely because they are opposites, like water and fire.

blaugh j/k That is an interesting thought... we haven't seen anyone but the avatar able to bend 2 things...
I dunno, not everyone born in a bending family can bend, after all (Sokka... sweatdrop )

We just haven't seen Sokka bend. I think he's just too friggan lazy to learn.

I view bending as not only a genetic thing, but as something that you have a natural flair for. I guess I'm just backing up what Tesah just said.... not everyone can bend, even if their parents are benders.
Also, I'm thinking that the reason you don't see much action between different nations is that there simply isn't much communication. Fire nation goes without saying, it's them against the world (I'll bet getting it on with the enemy is considered treason or something), The Southern Water tribe was more or less wiped out, the Northern Water tribe kind of isolated themselves from the world up there in the north pole (more or less the same with the swamp water benders) and Earth Kingdom.... well they're just there ^^; I guess if no one else comes out, they're left to themselves.
So um...... yeah..... If two people from different nations were to get together and spawn, I'd assume that the child would end up being able to bend only one or the other. If it were both, then you start getting into all other funky sorts of things (like what if a water/earth person mated with a fire/air person? Would you get a fake avatar?) It's more like.... eye color... or something. It's either one or the other.
yeah.... that's my two cents......

yeah, agreeing w/ the girls ^
i think bending has to be in your blood. its a gift really. like, im pretty sure zuko coulndt learn to waterbend, ya know?
i also believe that physical body colors would mix (hair, eyes, skin) and sometimes i get the idea tht if ur born in a certain nation, u bend that element.

well mabe it would be good if they didnt go into that stuff cause they said that the avatar is the only one that cn bend mmore than one
