I went to open house at the new school in June and I picked up a sheet for drama-'cause I was interested. Anyway, I looked on the sheet and it said we had to attend a minimum of 3 MTC productions! xd
If we miss one we must write an essay on something that has to do with drama. I'm a good writer and everything-but I'd rather see the productions! whee
What about you drama classes? Do they require you to do anything?

I run away from drama classes at my school. Far away. I sprint. The drama classes are in no way related to the actual plays that we do. And none of us after school drama people want to be associated to the kids who think that it's an easy class anyway. Oh how I will enjoy watching those horrible freshmen who think they can act burn a horrible death...anywho...
I know our plays require like 6-10 hours of tech work on build days and stuff. Otherwise you get no credits for the play.

I see. I don't know if they do the after school drama thing, probably if we need a practice. That's a shame though. In no way do I think this is going to be an easy class. I was afraid I wasn't going to get in because of the many kids that wanted it as an easy class. My friend had told me not to go in drama, but I really do need the experience if I want to do anything in this field.
That sounds like fun-but then again it's my first year and I've no idea what I'm talking about. sweatdrop

My class, we're not required to do anything major, just to engage in the class. You're expected to participate in class discussions, memorize your lines, and do the work. We don't really have to write essays in the class I'm in, although we have had to do that kind of work in Drama I and II. But you don't have to be in the plays if you want to take the class, they're seperate things.
Some people think it's a class to just slack off in, so they take Drama I, realize there is work involved, and then stop after that year. Festival Theater, which is Drama III and IV, requires approval from the teacher so even if the slack-offs want to take it, the teacher won't let them.
A lot of people who like drama won't take the classes at our school, and sometimes they don't even want to be in the plays. Why? The teacher's a freakin man-b***h! He can be so difficult to work with, especially if you're not one of his favorite students.

Yeah. We have to keep a journal and do journal entries, along with getting the chance to write our own scripts and such, but that's about it. If we don't go to the MTC performances we have to do six hours of volunteer theatre work. They changed it from the original sheet, but that's okay.
I don't think there are any slackers in my class, we even have possible prompter. 3nodding
Same here, participation is a must, or else you lose quite a few marks. But that's aweful about the teacher being so mean. My teachers aren't so bad yet, but we'll have to wait and see to know for sure. whee

Well, I'm not in theater class, but I'm in Women's Choir, and for that we have to see one non-school choral performance every semester and write a critique

A whole crap load of stuff, since I'm in the audition only class. I have to participate in some way on all the shows, do two play critiques, one of which has to be proffesional, plus there's a lot of other assignments.
Lately, we've been doing improv which is so much fun and nxt week Mon-Wed we're having someone come to teach us about and acting style called Viewpoints which originated at Tisch School of the Arts at NYU- I'm oober excited!

My class requires Journals, and for us to write an essay about a show we went to see. Unfortunately, if you worked the show, you can't use it.

Wow, sounds exciting for all of you. The first MTc performance I am going to see is next Wednesday. It's called The Tempest. Along with that performance, there was one that I cannot currently remember, but the last one I get to see is the Rocky Horror performance.
It's great that you all have something to do in your classes, we've just learned stage positions (UC, UL, DR, etc...). I would be excited too about being taught something like that. How did it go thelovelyLIE?
[ Amputated Freckle ], that sounds like fun. So which performance are you/did you see?
firebird_phoenix, we need journals as well, but we rarely use them. Only on the occasional time. We usually use them for writing activities we enjoyed, why we believed they would help us, and things like that. That's unfortunate indeed that you are not allowed to write about the show you worked on, but I can see why.

At my school drama one only must help with the yearly play production like lighing or makeup or technical stuff or be in it for their final. Drama 2 and up have to a bit more, such as doing skits that aren't so basic, more must be incorperated. Drama 3 does indiviual stuff and has many more projects to do.

I 2nd "What drama class?". Hell, I have to say something more like "Elective English class? What elective English class?!" because our school is ridiculous. No drama, no poetry, NO FXXING CREATIVE WRITING!!! And for the sake of our beloved freshmen, we're dropping foreign language above level 3. W.T.F.?
