Despite many thinking the game was released in 1993 (Where the heck did they get that info?), the game was ACTUALLY released in 1995. Don't believe me? First look at the title screen.... It says, 1995. Still don't? Check HAL's official website (Preferably Japanese, because NoA rarely updates anything that won't benefit them).

Now that that's aside, get ready for me to do a "grandpa" speech. (Y'know, "Back in my day, blah blah blah...)

HISTORY~
Well, not as much backstory can be done on KDL2. It came out, though under the title of "Kaabii 2", was actually the fourth game in the series. As well, using what did well in the past, Kirby had his abilities for this installment of the Dreamland series... But only had 8. Which is also something people don't notice as much, as most have thought to believe the only 8 abilities started with KDL3.

Possibly over-looked due to things that came out around it (Super Deluxe would come out one year later for a color-system, rather than on a still big and chunky black and white portable one), but still, I consider it, one of the best Kirby games ever.

PERSONAL HISTORY~
Dreamland 2 was not only my first Kirby game, it was my first videogame that I actually ENJOYED. Being only 5 and trying to beat Disney Interactive games (Let's face it, they can't make games) like the Lion King and HOPING to beat Super Mario Land as a little 5 year old on a system about as big has half of my arm seemed almost impossible. So one day, I snuck into my sister's room and took her game, because it looked like she was having fun with it....

After I started I was hooked, and thus began my liking of Videogames (And where a certain hatred of Mario began as well) as well as Kirby as my favorite videogame character. I would be ridiculed later for liking such a thing, but I kept at it, wasn't for him, I would probably hate videogames or be some fanwank of some extremely popular series, or nothing at all. So here I sit today, over 10 years later, still with Kirby as my most favorite character of all time, having many games of his series, watching both versions of the anime and even some Kirby plushies sitting around my room. Wow...

I didn't really FULLY beat the game until I was 8, and that's where I was really wowed by it. Such a cute ending, still my favorite ending of all, no one can top the simplicity of it, it just works.

((Kirby: Maybe you should talk about the game now!))

Oh right, sorry, ^_^;

THE GAME~
Kirby's Dreamland 2 starts off with a similar plot to the original, basic and simple, yet shows that a hero is needed to help save the land of Dreams from an incoming evil. As I never really had the instructional booklet, I was surprised to see a scan of it many years later blurting out Dark Matter's existence right in the story. Regardless, Rick, Coo and Kine all added to the simple story, and really, that's all we need. I don't see why people force so much into stories nowadays (Example being Shadow the Hedgehog).

Gameplay was pretty much the same as the first one, run to the side, inhale and spit back out until you defeat an enemy... but wait! This one also introduced the power abilities to the Gameboy main branch of the series. Though not as many as Adventure, the lack of made the game a tad more difficult than Adventure and a bit more strategic when it came to the other new element the game added all on it's own: Helpers. Rick, Coo and Kine are the pioneer helpers, and though they have no special powers, when with Kirby they act as a "shield", as I would use them, having their own set of HP as well as creating different type of power when using them. For instance, the fire ability makes Kirby be a flaming fireball at targets, making him move when you use him. But with Rick, it becomes a fire breath technique.

The abilities that could be gained are as follows:
-Fire (Ifreeti is the mini-boss that can give you this)
-Ice (Mr. Frosty)
-Spike/Needle (Captain Switch)
-Cutter (Waiu)
-Parasol (Jumpershoot)
-Spark/Electric (Master Green)
-Stone (Blocky)
-Rainbow Sword (Only obtainable on the final boss)

Of course, the best part was the difficult task of collecting all of those rainbow drops, 7 in all, and all a bit hard to get, relying on brain power and not mindlessly running through and getting them. Get all 7 and beat Dedede to fight the real final boss, Dark Matter, and view the true ending... But that's not it! You'll only have 97% after that, how do you get 100%? You need to get the maximum score possible. A hard task, but well worth it. (I love sound tests)

NIFTY STUFF~
-You can tell Sakurai DID work on this game, as he was a key influence in the anime, there are episodes with Rick, Coo and Kine (One being completely dedicated to Kine), as well as the fact that Dark Matter was in the pilot of the anime. As Dark Matter, not Zero.
-Rick Coo and Kine have been in 3 other games since their debut in Kaabii 2. Star Stacker, Dreamland 3 and Super Star Stacker. Though I'm crossing my fingers that any of them gets accepted into Brawl.
-The powers though useful, proved more ineffective on bosses, especially when it came to the Dedede fight. Which was actually a lot easier if you just fought him the classic way.
-Sir Kibble along with 3 of the "Knights" of MK's posse appeared in the game with very odd looking sprites that are much different to their original/most used ones
-Waiu is a ninja, =D
-Kaabii 2 could also be used for the Super Gameboy, a Super Nintendo attachment that let you play Gameboy games on your SNES with some color added. The nicest thing is how it handles the ending. The credits roll to a completely grayscale theme, like the gameboy, but all turns color when Kirby draws the rainbow in the sky.

Kirby: This is much appreciated Kenta, but I think you've talked too much.

-_-

...it's still my favorite game.

Oh, yes. One of the best Kirby handheld games ever.

I mean, it had the animal friends! When was the last time you saw them in a Kirby game? ;_;

Well, yeah, but that was a long time ago.

The statues Rock ability gets you in K64 don't count, by the way.

...but the only worth-while one was Nago because he looked funny.

Plus, DL3 was the only game to have those helpers in, Rick Coo and Kine showed up in Super Star Stacker and Star Stacker, so they're more awesome. (And in the anime)

Plus they had themes in DL2... No themes in DL3, =(. Which is sad, I was looking forward to hearing Nago's theme or maybe even Pitch's.

Oh, yeah, the themes, I've completely forgotten. Someone ought to remix them, yes, yes.

And Kenta, the topic's got a typo.

This is another one I have not beaten ... especially since I don't really own it. ... Using keyboards to control is hard. ;-;

My brother beat it though. ^.^;;

I loved the way the animals changed your powers. Riding Rick was awesome!

Oh and Rick could inhale back then. not like in KD3 where Rick could only open his mouth and you had to bumrush enemies to bite down.
