The game that started it all.
HISTORY: Meant to be easy and for beginner players, Kirby originally wasn't meant to be the hero...
Going back a long time to probably before 1992 (The release year of the game), Masahiro Sakurai and his Team at HAL (Under producer Satoru Iwata) were put to the task of creating a game that all players could beat and get to the ending with ease. For the project they created a test dummy to be used with the level designs, but ultimately liked the dummy more than what they were going to do later, and decided to keep him. This dummy would becomd Kirby.
If anyone notices on Dreamland's box art, Kirby is WHITE. This is because it was still undecided at the time of what color he was going to be, as the game was for Gameboy, which had no color back then. Shigeru Miyamoto wanted Kirby to be yellow, but Sakurai wanted Kirby to be pink.
~~~~ THE GAME: The game itself is rarely mentioned by Kirby fans despite being the first. Probably because it's simplicity and the fact that Kirby did not have his ability to copy powers in the first game. Regardless, the game introduced countless characters that would be seen again in later games. Kirby, obviously, along with Whispy Woods, Kracko and Dedede as major characters that would all appear in the second game as well. Whispy, Kracko and Dedede have been mainstream characters since the original, even if they aren't always bosses (Whispy helps you in Tilt'n'Tumble).
Gameplay itself was run to the side, suck in enemies, spit them out and destroy the others. Basic enough that runs can be done in under 10 minutes....
Though the game did offer an "Extra" mode, where the enemies were a lot harder (I swear they all had "lock-on", they always tried to get in my face), and Kirby's HP wasn't as strong, one hit would result in the loss of 2 HP bars. Bosses would also be a lot harder. Such as Whispy Woods dropping occasional Gordos (The big spikey enemies with eyes that you can never kill), along with his apples.
The game that started it all, let's talk about it!
Kirby: You honestly go overboard on the information. (>-_-;<)
Ah, KDL1, that was a tough game after most people spoilt themselves with the copy ability seen in the sequel. I assume the second one got more attention than the first one, so...
KDL1 had it's unique stuff, too, like those special crazy items.
It's a shame when it got remaked in Super Star, Lololo Castle was excluded. I really liked the theme of that stage. :/
KLD2 is still my favorite game, probably because it was my first game.
But the original was fun too. Kaboola was also taken out of the Spring Breeze Remake, that ticked me off. Mint Leaf, Invincible Candy, Spicy... uh... whatever that item was.... Those were the days..
How fast have people beaten the game?
My record, so far, is somewhere between 9 and 10 minutes. Extra Mode... surprisingly, between 40 minutes and an hour.
Hoshi no Kenta How fast have people beaten the game? My record, so far, is somewhere between 9 and 10 minutes. Extra Mode... surprisingly, between 40 minutes and an hour. I once tried to do a 1 life speedrun with some friends. I ended up dying in Bubbly Clouds. And how could you take nearly 2 hours on extra mode? O_o
