In less than a month I'll be sitting at a table at RealmsCon peddling cross stitched sprites! I decided to price them at five dollers per character, plus another five for supplies, etc that went into each picture. I think that will come out to about a dollar an hour or some unflattering number like that... ^^; Anyway, I'll let you guys know how it turns out! Wish me luck!

Wow, that sounds really neat! I wish you the best luck! Where is this RealmCon being held anyway?

Corpus Christi, TX, on the weekend of September 15th. It'll be my first time going to this one (usually I go to AnimeFest in Dallas, but I can't get a ride to that one this year. ^^; )

so do you cosplay at the cons when you go? one of my friends who went to MTAC last year said that if you dont cosplay then people just kind of ignore you.

The only cosplay I've done was a character from a show not yet in the US, so I was ignored, too. =_=

It's so exausting getting ready for this one! I can cross stitch all I want and then some, which is great until my hands start to hurt. sweatdrop Thanks for the good wishes. I'm getting those pre-convention jitters already! ^^

I return from the con! Thr cross stitch did better than my prints, but not as good as commissions - in other words, I sold about five. Not a bad profit. ^^ What I didn't sell will be going on Etsy as soon as possible, to sit and do nothing until somebody stumbles across and falls in love with them. ^o^

Ah, congratulations! I bet it was fun. So what do people do on conventions like that? Me wonder, cause I've never been to one.

You should go if you ever have the chance! Ususallu a convention is held on the lobby floor or in some basement part of the hotel with a looooot of really big rooms and large halls. In the rooms and halls you'll find some set up like mini theaters, with anime and Japanese movies playing on the projectors 24 hours a day. Others will have a table at the front where throughout the weekend there will be guests like voice actors and manga artists doing Q&A sessions, or con staff teaching you how to put together cosplay and speak Japanese. One BIG room is full of tables rented by anime and gaming stores. You'll find things there you don't even know *can* exist. In some locations, especially Dallas and Houston, official companies will be handing out free buttons and posters. There's also usually an art auction, or a small charity auction (sometimes the "things" being auctioned are voice actors and professional models). And then a smaller area will be lined with tables called artist alley, where artists rent a table and try to sell their wares. You never really know who you'll find or what they'll be selling - like cross stitch, for example. ^_~

And that's just the stuff that sits in one place. There are hundreds, sometimes thousands of guests, most of whom are wearing anime shirts, many of whom are in full cosplay, walking around in groups and covered in plushies and bags of whatever they've most recently bought. There are weird game show contests like Otaku Jeopardy, cosplay contest, katamari-rolling contest, scavenger hunts, etc. Few people actually sleep for more than three or four hours during the whole event. whee
