Dame almost cried with joy at the sight of the rustic buildings that hove into view over the hill. Picking up her skirt, she hurries her footsteps, hoping to see a friendly face in the town that she hadn't seen in close to a month. Grinning at the thought of wandering the streets again, she doesn't see the stone sticking up from the road, tripping over it and landing hard enough to knock the wind from her lungs. Mai, concerned over her human getting suddenly shorter, darts over to her face and helpfully licks the tip of Dameer's nose.
Picking herself carefully up out of the cobbled street, the young witch dusts herself off. "It's okay, Mai. I'm alright." Taking a confident step forward, Dame finds herself once more sprawled on the ground due to her left knee collapsing on her. "Oh! I guess I wasn't okay..." Heaving a sigh, Dame stands once again, wincing as her knee complained about the movement. Glancing around to make certain that no one was looking, she draws her skirt up to take a look at her injury. Finding nothing more than a rapidly spreading bruise and some swelling, Dame limps forward, determined to at least make it to the fountain where, hopefully, she'll be able to soak the worst of the hurt away. Gesturing to her concerned kitty, she walks on haltingly.
Oddly enough, Dame had walked through the entirety of the small town and not run into a single soul. Unfortunately, Dameer herself was unaware of this occurance because she was focusing on taking one step after another in her effort to get to the fountain. That task was taking all of her concentration. She didn't want to fall again, and her eyes weren't helping her since they were full of unshed tears. Going slowly, she just managed to make it to the marble rim of the gently splashing fountain before she collapsed again, unable to take another step on her bruised leg. Lifting the offending limb, she lowers it into the water, shivering slightly at the chilly embrace of the liquid. Feeling the creeping numbness caused by the cold, Dameer sighs in relief, wiping the tears from her cheeks.
Looking down at the kitten mewing up at her, Dame smiles shakily, reaching down to scratch behind Mai's ears. "See?...Nothing that a little cold water won't heal." Hearing a splash that didn't blend with the normal fountain sounds, Dameer turns her head to see what caused it...and freezes in place. Standing in the water, seemingly unconcerned about the cold water lapping at its legs, was a midnight black horse. Blinking unbelievingly, Dame slowly extends her hand. "Hello there. Isn't a fountain in the middle of a town an odd place for a pwyca to live?"
Tossing his head, the pwyca reaches to touch her hand with his velvet nose. Blowing gently, he looks at her with one eye full of mischief.
Letting out a gasp, Dame can think of only one reason for him to be here. "You didn't come here to steal someone away, did you?" Shocked when he nods his head candidly, she scowls at his, admittedly, handsome head. "Seriously? You can't do that! I...I won't let you!" So saying, she stands up on the rim of the fountain, furious that he would endanger her friends in Hawick. Unfortunately for her, she had forgotten about her leg and it crumpled on her once more. Fortunately for the pwyca, she fell onto his quite willing back. In a flash, he disappeared into the underwater world that was his home, taking the injured and angered Dame with him and leaving a distraught Mai to wander the town, looking for someone who could help her mistress...
