The sidewalk outside, a dappled cement, is slightly worn in places, though not a safety hazard just yet. The translucent windows are fairly clean and nearly cover the entire expanse of storefront. Etched onto each window with fading black paint in a gothic font is the word "BOOKS". The door itself is also a weathered black wood. An open/closed sign hangs behind a glass plate in the door, and at the very top a sign hangs out over the sidewalk, bearing the name "Rae's Place" in the same crackling font as the windows.

Immediately upon entrance, visitors are greeted by the overwhelming sight of rows and rows of bookshelves, filled with every sort of book imaginable, old and new alike. The decor is dark, mostly reds and greys, but not foreboding. If one dares to venture further in, there are pleasant little corners that host comfortable chairs. After all, nobody likes a stuffy bookstore where previewing the books isn't allowed.

If quiet corners aren't your thing, try heading back towards the front of the store. An outdated couch and several chairs all cluster around a table, and that's where Rae herself usually keeps an eye on the books. A polite request will often be returned with conversation, accompanied by a snack or beverage occasionally.

The store is here for your convenience, both to find information and keep in touch with fellow citizens. Rae warmly welcomes you to browse through the collection as you wish, reading whatever you like. She only requires a purchase to be made in the event of a book leaving the store. Also, in the rare event of a book not being found in the collection, Rae will do her best to attempt to create the book with her arcane gift. Because of this bonus, books are in great supply, and prices will remain extremely low and reasonable.

Shiela bounced into the bookstore, merrily, bearing the WTMI welcom packet, and an eye for Mercedes Lackey's works.

Rae looks up from her most recent book, distracted by the sound of a bell ringing on the door that announced a visitor. "Is there anything I can help you with?" she asks, observing the store's second occupant. It would be nice to have someone to talk to right about now, and she looks friendly enough. Business has been awfully slow today. Her thoughts wander, but her gaze betrays none of this. A slight smile creeps upon her face, polite but not overfriendly.

He steps inside slowly, the tune of a classical song quietly vibrating in his throat. He is humming Mozart, of all things, and he does not know why.

He moves with almost unnatural grace--not the pretty kind like athletes and dancers--just not quite real, like a rendered computer animation. He passes the teenager and drifts towards the back, scanning over the interior and studying the stock. He looks at everything with an appraising eye, as if he is determining the value of the furniture, the lighting, and the wallpaper, and maybe, just maybe, the value of the woman on the other side of the counter.

Kace enters the bookstore in her most common of ways; by making the clumsiest entrance possible. As she opens the door, her foot catches on her own shoestrings, sending her flying inside and landing straight on her face. Already she is back on her feet, brushing herself off and smiling as though nothing had happened. Accidents like this are normal for her, being as clumsy as she is. Despite all of this, she goes almost completley unnoticed, her Arcane gift working without her even realizing it. Because she does not want to be noticed, she is overlooked by almost everyone in the bookstore, which suits her just fine.

Smiling brightly, and fixing her loose pants, Kace sidles along the nearest bookshelf, searching for something interesting to catch her eye. More than book hunting, she is actually job hunting, hoping to find some information on any sort of odd jobs that she could do, for she was running dangerously low on money.

Rae sighs and returns to her reading as others enter the store. She finds it difficult to concentrate at first on the tiny black print on yellowing pages, so her attention turns to the newcomers instead. Out of the corner of her eye, she glances at the high-spirited girl bouncing along, a stately man appraising everything, she thinks, with a twinge of disdain, and another girl who is obscured so much- by the use of her gift, Rae figures- that the only thing alerting her presence is the ringing of bells as she opens the door. Soon enough, the visitors all turn to browse the shelves for whatever it is that brought them inside, and Rae is able to concentrate on her book at last.

Squinting her eyes, Kace pulled various books down, stared at the covers or read the backs, then replaced them. She had hardly heard of any of these! And they all seemed so interesting. A slight twinge of homesickness hit as she wondered about her own home. Had she read a lot with her parents? Had they even owned any books?

Shaking this slightly depressing thought out of her head, she approached the person who seemed to have the air of being in charge. Biting her lip in her general sign for nervousness, Kace cleared her throat and asked in a bright voice,

"Erm... Excuse me, ma'am? You wouldn't happen to know of any open jobs, would you? I don't need a long-term job, just an odd job would do."

Rae looks up from her reading and smiles brightly, hoping to send out her little bit of sunshine into the room. "Oh, you really don't have to call me 'ma'am'," she giggles. "I'm only 22."
She puts a bookmark on the current page and closes the book on her lap.
"As for the other matter, I don't know of anyone else who needs help, but I guess I could use an assistant here, you know, maintenance and sorting books, that sort of thing. If you're interested, that is. By the way, the name's Rae. What's yours?"

Akemi opens the door to the bookstore, eager to check out its selection. She halts at the entrance though, as she hasn't wandered into bookstores like this in awhile. Comfy and cozy seemed to be splashed onto the walls and Akemi smiled in surprise.

Akemi treads quietly through the store, her eyes wander a little while noting a man, a girl, and another girl. She once again halts, only to see what section of books she is in. Noting that they were not the horror/romance titles she enjoyed; she continued on, clicking her tongue the whole way.

Kace's face lit up as though it was Christmas. In a fast and excited voice, she answered quickly.

"Oh my! I'm Kace... or Jack, whichever! And do you really mean it, you have a job opening?!" She bounced a bit, teetering for a second, and almost loosing her balance. As she regained her balance, she smiled brightly.

"I would love any job! I'm used to doing lots of hard thing sometimes, which is okay! But just so you know... I may leave suddenly..." She scratched at the back of her head, embarrassed.

He walks his way through the aisles, stopping to slip a book off of the shelves. He opens it and delicately leafs through the pages. His eyes raise up over the edge of the book, and he watches the room with casual disintrest.

Rae glances momentarily at the door as yet another person enters, this time a girl who seemed almost hesitant as she tours the shelves. She flicks her eyes back towards Kace before making herself too obvious.
Maybe I spoke too quickly about offering this girl a job. I don't even know if she's dependable or not. I guess the only way I could possibly find out is by giving her something easy that can't be messed up and seeing how she fares with it. If it doesn't go well, she goes and I don't lose anything, not like there's anything here to lose.
"Leave suddenly?" she asks, her voice taking on a suspicious edge as she raises an eyebrow. "I suppose I don't mind. It wouldn't really be the most structured or demanding work anyways."

Kace nodded, looking more than a little embarrassed.

"Yes... I don't usually stay in one place for too long. I'm kind of looking for my family... Or maybe someone who knows me!" She laughed happily, seemingly brightening up the room without even meaning to.

"Okay! So... So when can I start, what do I do, how long do I work.." Her voice trailed off as she rattled of questions at a high speed, unable to contain her excitement. Could there be a better job than in a bookstore?

Akemi felt the usual temptation, a slight quivering of her fingers that informed her, once again, she'd be fighting a losing battle. Smirking, she ran the now twitching fingers up the spine of some history book. Something though, probably guilt, made her withdraw her hand; the quivering stopped...maybe it wasn't a losing battle.

"This will take awhile," Akemi muttered, now resuming her tour through the shop. A title caught her eye though, and the summary on the back described the book as a "bloody tale of horror and pain, bleeding through the pages of history as a sardonic tale of woe and misery", etc. etc. Akemi promptly placed it back on the shelf and took the book next to it.

Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of Four clutched in her grasp.

He continues to watch the room. He is waiting, patiently ticking away the time, until he will be able to speak with the proprietor alone, without any nosy ears listening.
