It was a brooding, chilly night, the kind where your eyes dart from side to side at invisible shadows as you're breath steams the dry air. Yes, the kind of night where you jump at shadows.
There are only a number of people who walk the dark streets of Leldorhorn, and I was one of them. I was also one of the select few who could walk the streets with the puffed up arrogance of an aristocrat (an aristocratic pirate, perhaps?), a fancy merchant and one of the many rogues who frequently populated the small port town. I think I'd most fit into the first catorgory.
To my eyes it was a fairly normal night. I had dropped by in this town fairly often in the past, but in the three years since I'd last been here, a lot had changed. The streets were much smoother to walk on (I'm a very picky kind of person at heart), there wasn't so much waste in the roads, and a lot of the houses actually stood fairly upright. The thing which I most welcomed though was the thriving community of thieves, assasins, thugs and pirates who skulked around at night. At least that hadn't changed.
My boots rung on the cobbled street, the flamboyant blue coat that I usually wore swishing to and fro in the still atmosphere. I ran a rough hand over the hilt of my dagger, the cold metal stinging my hands. Made me feel better, it did.

Zrutha gingled down the dark allyway enjoying the darkness and unsavory people she passed. this is the life! she thought. god forbid the day when there's no more piracy and magic! the bells on her cloths jingled pleasantly in the gripping silence. she has only three focuses in life, adventure, sex, and more adventure. Zrutha laughed to herself, I should howl to the moon! all of a sudden a figure appeared and they collided. "Woah! careful there Gov'" she laughed. "I'm sorry my dear woman..." his sentece trailed off as he looked at her, this made her grin more, she knew, her body did wonders to the men. Also the small parts of tattos stucking out of her colthing attracted more interest. what kind of a woman would get tattos?

I didn't like sharp corners. They had always made me feel confined, and you never knew when somebody would jump suddenly out from behind them and stab you with a knife. Besides, I was a more "curvey" kind of man, I guess you could say.
Speaking of curvey. As it was, I just happening to be rounding the corner (carefully, mind you), when suddenly somebody ran smack bang into me. I grimanced, running my hands quickly across my slender body, checking to see if this mysterious somebody had stolen my wallet of any other possesion of interest. Seeing that everything was in check, I focused on the person.
She was a very curvey kind of person. As I said before, I like curves. "Woah, careful there Gov!" she laughed. She had a light, littering kind of voice, thouh there was something dark in it. She also had aquired alot of jewlery somewhere (and somehow). Earrings dangled in large quanties off her ears, and her clothing was very revealing. I could easily see the black, angry tattoos sticking out from her clothing. I dipped my feathery hat to her, looking at her curves admiringably. "I'm sorry, my dear woman." Sarcasam oozed into my voice. I smiled widely, still taking everything in. "What's a young lady like yourself doing out at night in such a disrespectable town like thus? Don't you know what happens in dark alleyways?" I looked at her slyly. "Perhaps I should take you to a more "sheltered" place? Could I have the honour of hearing your name, at least?"

"oh my, a sheltered place! if you insist! the name's Zrutha, gov'!" She smiled. "Oh, and i know all too well what happens in dark allyways!" A loud chuckle rose in her throght but she restrained it. The man seemed to smile at this. his tall but small frame stood strait but not formal, in some way he seemed, rebelish. And Zrutha LOVES rebels. she moves closer to him. " im sure you do!" a large smirk squriming across his face. "And mind i ask your name or shall i just call you gov'. Gov'?"

My rich blue eyes flashed with a kind of sneaky delight. I laid my hands casualy on my hips, shoulders back. Beneath my right hand and coat I could feel the hilt of my dagger. It made me feel more confident Just in case this young stranger was more than she seemed, I would have my weapon in my hands quickly. And nobody could outmatch me in a dagger fight. "Zrutha, what a lovey name. My own name would be Cadel." I have an outragious bow, then took her hand and shook it, noticing that she was moving closer, battering eyelashes. It seemed I still had the charm of attracting wanted attention from ladies. Seemingly, they love the bad boys. "Although Gov would still be fine..." I smirked, and waved a hand dramactically towards the stone and wooden houses, the dark, cobbled streets, and the deserted road. "And how long have you been roaming these streets, Zrutha? Months? Days? Years? I myself have just arrived, though I visit this place regulary. Perhaps you know of a little respectable tavern, just a few blocks away?" I drew her closer, enjoying myself. It was only in Leldorhorn that you could find women willing to flirt with notorious and brutal pirates. Trust me, never flirt with noble ladies, unless you want a sharp slap in the face. "If it's still there, that is." I pondered silently for a moment. It would be a shame if the inn had been closed or knocked down. "It's called the "Glad Footpad", perhaps you've heard of it?"

Sprazz shook her head. her loooonnnngggg blond hair waved around her. her wings were folded neatly on her back. she knew she was 10 but she didn't care. she thought this place was cool. also she wanted to meet a pirate. care free and an adventure seeking, she was alright....except now she was lost. after she thought about it, the place was a bit scary.then she heard the sound. it sounded a long way away, but she was desprate, so she lifted up her wings and flew above the run-down buildings. she guessed roughly where the noise was coming from, then sped towards it. touch down!! Sprazz thought. Sprazz looked round the corner. she moved a step backwards and sneezed. she froze. the two people were looking her direction.

I frowned suddenly, as Zrutha was just opening her mouth. After many years of constantly being in danger of death, madness, poisen and much more, my ears could pick up pretty quite sounds. This sound I heard was quite different, like a mix between a buzz of a fly, the flap of a bird and the chirp of a cricket. Very odd.
I looked around, slipping my hand into my coat and clutching the dagger with nervious hands. The sound uneased me. I watched as Zrutha slipped a dagger from her own belt. Obviously she was a prepared woman. I sort of liked that.
Suddenly, as quickly as it had come, the noise vanished. I paused, chewing a lip, and brushed some blond hair from my eyes. I looked sideways at Zrutha. "Have you heard anything like that noise before?" I asked her. She shook her head, but held a finger to her red lips. I nodded.
Then, as I looked around, I spotted something moving in the shadows, far down the street. Something moving fast. I held my breath, and elbowed Zrutha, who was looking down the other way. She tried to draw me back into the shadows of a building, but I held my ground, drawing my dagger as quietly as I could, winching at every scrap of steel. Finally, holding it in front of me with an expert hand, I adopted a defensive position.
Something yellow flashed in the moonlight. Causiously, a small, slight figure creeped out from the shadows. It was a small child, a girl by the looks of it. She gave a tiny sneeze. I started to laugh. Zrutha sneaked out from the shadows. I pointed to the child, who was still half obscured by shadows. She looked frightened and alone. "It's only a kid," I told her quitely.
"We're not going to hurt you, little one," I called out, sheathing my weapon. "You can come out!"

of course Sprazz was frightened of him and the lady but she came out slowly anyway.she slipped her hand into a hidden pocket in her dress and grasped a pocket knife. Sprazz was never without one. she frowned, somthing was moving behind the man. "hey......DUCK!!!" Sprazz threw the pocket knife as Cadel and Zrutha ducked. the pocket knife found its mark with a outraged Cadel (annoyed at not hearing it) spinning around and thowing a quick release dagger at the other scum that were trying to get Sprazz, for fairys were rare. Sprazz sat down suddenly. she started to cry.

Zrutha shuffled over towad the slite figure sopping on the cobbles. "Oh you poor gir...fairy! whats on your mind dar? Now wipe those tears and an' have a sip o' this..." She handed the small fairy a small water skin from her cloths. The fairy looks up wary, "it's not alcahole is it?" Zeutha laughs,"Lord NO! one of my, er, tallents, is making remidies. they trulely help...lots of people boast they do but most don't. Mine trulely does."

For a moment I just stood there. Everything had happened in such a rush that I was still staring fruitfully ahead. Zrutha hurried off to comfort the young girl. I could've kissed her for doing that (very easily too, wink wink). I've never been very good at comforting people, the best I can do is awquadly pat them on the back.
After a few seconds, I started to regain my senses. I looked at the slumped, still figure on the cobbled road, a short knife protruding from his chest. I had to rufully admit that the kid was good. Very good. I plucked the knife from his flesh, and wiped it a few times across his black vest, face grim. Then, I promptly started to stamp my foot on the hard ground, swearing rather loudly.
When I was fairly calmed down, I trotted over to the hunched figure of Zrutha, who was holding the child close to her, whispering comforting words. I could feel the adreniline pumping through me. "We should get to a safe place. There could be more thugs around, and these guys seem like professionals. I wouldn't like to risk both your lives, ladies, but I know this place like the back of my hand. You should come with me, but it's your disision." I crouched down next to Zrutha, and gave a sad smile. "Frankly, I'd love it if you came aways with me." I turned to the kid. "What's your name?"

"i'll come." was the short reply of Zrutha, before Sprazz could say anything. then she spoke up. "would you really let me come? oh, my name is Sprazz." she said in a awed voice."really." Cadel confirmed. "cool, thank you. i would like to come.......i'm a bit lost, and i went towards the sound you were making." she said. "umm....where r we and where r we going?" .: oh no!:. she thought, .:if we're going to the Glad Footpad i'm doomed. although.....nah, they wouldn't be there......would they? ohwell, sux for me. :.

I was stunned by their short and quick answers. Although I wasn't one to carry much luggage (human wise), I would feel guilty if I just left a lost and loney child on the streets. Zrutha was a different matter. Obviously she could care for herself, but... I liked her. She had an interesting personalily, and if she wasn't an assasin, I'd like to get to know her. Our relationshop had been very rushed, but she might have been interesting as a friend. Not to mention is was very good looking, and I never turn down an offer like that. I smiled. It would be nice to have some female company for once.
"Well, I have some buisness to deal with at the Glad Footpad - an old friend of mine runs it (if he's still there), and I need to ask him some... questions. Besides, there's rum and good music, and perhaps I can find someone willing to look after you for a while, Sprazz." I held out a hand to the child. "Sprazz... A nice name. I'm Cadel, and this is Zrutha."

Sprazz looked at him fearfuly. "w-will i have to stay at the Glad Footpad?" .: please say no, please say no :. "umm... yes. i wouldnt want to risk.......something as.....valuble as your life....." said Cadel .: grrr, grrr, grrr i dont want to stay there. oh well, i'm coming wether he likes it or not! :. thought Sprazz. "oh ok. i understand, i'll stay there."

It didn't take long to find the Glad Footpad. Zrutha knew where it was located (though she had never visited it), and help me when I became lost. It was welcoming to see all the familiar shop fronts and house in the dusty district, and I felt right at home when I saw the hanging sign out in front of the large tavern, depicting footprints, a walking shoe and a tankard of ale.
Even from outside, we could all hear the smasing of glasses and the loud yells of drunken thugs. I grinned. Perhaps a little fight after a long swig of rum would be good.
I bent down to Sprazz's eyes level, which was a bit hard to do. "Now, this place is going to be pretty boisurious, so just be careful. If anything happens or scares you, just come to me." I straightened up, then grinned at Zrutha. "Ready?" I asked. "Never better!" was my reply. She flashed her teeth at me, and I, turning the handle and leaning on the stubbon door, opened it.
