The lowlands of the home territory are ideal for does and their young to spend much of their time. Grazing, playing, and enjoying each other’s company. There is a lake that leads out to a river just in the center of the home territory.

Iko strode through the meadow, thorougly bored. More than bored actually, considering there was nothing to do. Had she emphasized that nothing? Because she meant it. As in really and truely nothing to do. Her mother was grazing with her friends, and Iko hadn't seen a lot of the other fawn or calves around for a while. The stupid calves were probably off bashing their skulls into one another, pretending they had horns. Although highly amusing at first, it grew old after the all the calves lay groaing about their stupid heads. She scowled. Why was it that just when she had nothing to do, there was no one around that she could do seomthing with? With a sigh, she flopped down into the grass.

Tergen watched the fawn curiously as he stood at the edge of the meadow. He'd found there was nothing to do in the lazy days of the summer, and had been knocking antlers with the limbs of a tree only moments before.
Wondering what the fawn was doing alone, he stepped from the shade. Normally, fawns and calves traveled in mini herds and were rowdier than anything.

Hearing a noise behind her, Iko's ears flickered, and she jumped up suddenly, turning to face whatever it was that was there. Surprised, she found herself staring into the face of a corps buck, a youngish one too, not close to a calf, but not an outrider either. She cocked her head and she looked at him, she had never seen him before. With little regard for manners, she blurted out, "Who'r you?"

"Tergen." The young buck replied, nodding his head. Something about her soft yellow and brown baby coat was ringing a bell... He frowned at himself, trying to dig up whatever memory he had of that coat. "Winona... You're Waoki's sister." He said suddenly, remembering the calf's single eye. He knew she looked familiar.

Iko watched the buck as he observed her with a concentrated look. It made her want to giggle, but she didn't. "Winona? Waoki? Yeah! Winona's my mom, and Waoki's my full brother! Did you meet him?" She warmed up to the young stag now that she knew he wasn't a complete stranger. Well, he knew her family, which was sort of close enough.

"Not really, but I pay enough attention to quite accurately tell families apart and remember faces." Tergen said with a kindly smile. "I've seen him playing around with other calves around." He added.
"Well, what are you doing alone? I was under the impression that all fawns and calves liked to travel in herds." He joked.

"Oh, okay. I don't really pay attention to a lot of stuff," she said in a bright voice. "Mom says I should...but she doesn't pay a lot of attention either!" She nodded her head at this. "Huh? Alone, yeah that's what I was wondering myself! I haven't seen any of the others around really. Well, I think some of the calves might be bashing their heads together. Did you ever do that when you were a calf? I think their all going to have brain damage. Hmmm, I hope Waoki isn't doing that, he's screwed if he gets brain damage," she said matter-of-factly. Ah yes, little tactless Iko.

Tergen grinned. Ah, the proud arrogance of a calf when he realizes he's grown antler nubs! He shook his head. "I'm not from this herd, and when I spent most of fall and winter journeying down south from the north, where I used to live. It was just me, Aline, and another fawn who rarely talked. It stands to reason that I didn't have many calf friends when I was younger."

"Really? Not from this herd? Aline? I don't think I know her either..." But not from this herd? In Iko's little life she had never heard of anyone that had come from an outside herd..unless it was....oh yes, she vaugly remembered her mother saying something about it when she was little. That not everyone in this herd was born here, and then she had said something else, but Iko scarcely payed attention. "Well then, you must have had to journey really far to come here! I don't know any other herds near here. And fall and winter is a long time!"

"We lived way up North, right at the foot of the Great Mountain in the High Land." Tergen explained. "In the brunt of winter, we found hospitality within a herd of fallow deer. They were great." He said, thinking back to the small herd of fallow deer they had wintered with.

"Wow, the great mountain!! That's far!!" Iko couldn't even imagine travelling that far...but speaking of travelling. She glanced at the sky. "Uh oh, I gotta go find my mom now, she wanted me back soon. I hope I get to see you again Tergen! Bye!!" She called out before scampering off.

"See ya 'round, Iko!" Tergen called after her with a smile. He looked up at the sky. It was almost Larn. No wonder she had to leave. With a gentle dip of his antlers, he backed into the cover of trees lining the meadow, watching with ever careful eyes.

Kana sat upon a tree branch, fluffing her soft white feathers. She was of the lera; a dove to be exact. Flying from branch to branch, she let out a coo of joy. She landed on Tergen's antlers, mistaking them for a branch. Looking out at the meadow, she saw that it was nearly dusk, or larn as the deer called it. "Coo, coo, I must be getting home....." she murmured to herself.

Tergen stopped mid-knock as the dove landed on his antlers, looking up. He couldn't very well see the bird, but he knew it was there. Plus there was cooing from above his head that was the unmistakeable sound of a dove. "Well, well... Little dove. Should be gettin' home." Tergen said softly, knowing full well that it wouldn't be able to understand him.
