My father was an alcoholic for quite some time. The last I remember was in third grade. He started drinking again. We were on vacation and I found two empty bottles of vodka in his suitcase. He admits to drinking again and we had to postpone our flight home because he was hungover and couldn't fly or drive. The morning after we found the vodka, he said he was drinking wine. He had to drive us home that day. I was nervous as hell that whole time. Now we're all back home safe, and he got sick the night before. He's been muttering and having a loss of short-term memory, depression because he hasn't taken his medication, and generally being sluggish, which all seem normal for his state. He said he needed help, and my brother and I are going to do everything we can to make sure he gets it. Anyone have any advice on how to handle him or get help or make sure he doesn't sneak off, etc.?

Guilt him. Guilt him. Guilt him. It's horrible, but it might work. You have to be there and support him, and tell your mom. Tell her, now. I don't know if they're still together, but she will be able to do something about it (perhaps).

You have to n** out the addiction NOW, before it gets ANY worse. Addictions are a b***h to take care of. Totally. Encourage your dad to go to AA (it does help), and be there to support him, and search the house. Remove all alchohol. Pour it down the drain, and throw away the bottle. Don't let him have any more.

You need to act now, before the hold to the addiction gets too strong. These things can ruin lives. Trust me: I know from experiance.
